By Larry Blustein sfsuntimes@aol.com Two years ago, when Mitchell "The Beast" Manresa entered the Mardi Gras Casino Hot Dog Eating Contest, he didn't know what to expect. He finished second. Last year, after doing so well the first year, he came back - and after consuming 13 hot dogs and buns in just three minutes, took home the championship belt and

Alvarez From Page 1A –––––––––––––––––––––– That’s why I believe we need more people like John Paul Alvarez in the legislature, public servants who’ll put the public’s best interests over private special interests. John Paul’s a lifelong South Floridian who lives in and is deeply committed to District 100. Like me, he’s a public school teacher who’s passionate about education. And although still a young man, John’s history of community service demonstrates he has the commitment and spirit to be a tremendous legislator. With state government under conservative Republican control for almost two decades, we’ve seen a steady campaign to privatize and profit from our public schools, prisons, and more. We’ve seen mounting attacks on teachers and other public employees. And we’ve suffered budget cuts to vital community services that working and retired Floridians count on every day, while giant corporations get tax breaks, “incentives” and free passes. When elected to the House, John Paul Alvarez will join me in fighting to change all that. And he’ll do it without any strings attached, because his campaign is not accepting contributions from corporations that
As a six-year veteran of the Florida Legislature, Senator Dwight Bullard, left, fully endorses John Paul Alvarez for State Representative in House District 100.

That’s critically important, because our broken campaign finance system allows corporations to use billions of dollars in “contributions” to control public policy and lawmaking in Florida. That’s how we got where we are. If we’re going to get our Middle Class growing and thriving again; if we’re going to put our public schools first; if we’re going to guarantee access to quality, affordable health care for all Floridians; if we’re going to put environmental, personal and property protection over corporate control of our natural resources and Energy policies… then we need to find a new way forward in Florida. And wouldn’t you know? That’s the campaign theme of the “John Paul Alvarez for State Representative” team: A New Way Forward For Florida. I know John, and I can tell you, that isn’t
just some slogan. The Miami-born son of a Cuban-born Jewish mother and Peruvian father who came to America and instilled a powerful work ethic in him, John grew up in a working family pursuing “The American Dream”. In the legislature, he’ll help pursue the fight to keep that dream alive. He’ll fight to raise the minimum wage, to put small business development over big business tax breaks, and to take pressure off lower and middle income taxpayers by making corporations pay their full fair share of taxes. He’ll fight for affordable housing and homeowners insurance, and quality, affordable health care for all Floridians. And he’ll join me in facing down “climate change deniers” willing to put thousands of homes, properties and lives in our coastal areas at great risk. For all these reasons, I urge you to use your voice to make a choice in the August 26th Democratic Primary

City hosts outstanding BF James Park grand opening as Parks Department continues to shine in the spotlight
By Mayor Joy Cooper HALLANDALE BEACH The city hosted a wonderful BF James Park grand opening on Saturday. Under the leadership of Director Cathie Schanz, the Parks Department in partnership with the “One Hallandale” Committee and organized a celebration that was exciting entertaining and most importantly inclusive. The Teen Zone students put on, was a wonderful act with the singing of a song that was created by them in honor of our city. There were prayers offered in honor of our past, present and future. Poems read and stories told of the rich history of the Park and the original pool. Many local vendors served food and drinks and we all danced to Junkanoo! Mr. BF James was a teacher and principal at the African American School on the BF James site when the system was segregated. I spoke about the irony that this park was being dedicated the same month we are recognizing the 50th Anniversary of the Civil Rights Act. It was not planned that way but it was an important message to remind everyone, young and old that our goal is still working to make our city “One Hallandale” where everyone
has equal access to services and amenities. Our entire city staff did an amazing job on managing the park project and Burkhart built another great park on schedule and under budget. The park was a few weeks’ early and $30,000 dollars was given back to our city. Once again, there is still more than simply guarding and saving taxpayers’ dollars we want to keep our dollars in our city. With our Community Benefit Program, CBP .52 percent of all dollars spent on the park were kept in our community. That is over $2.5 million dollars going to local workers, contactors, subcontractors and vendors. If you own a business in our city or are a homesteaded resident in our city and own your own business, you need to make sure you register your business with us. We give preference to you when we buy goods and services. This park is the 2nd in our Parks Master Plan. The beach parks are under construction and are anticipated to be open in December and early January. I apologize in behalf of the city for any inconveniences that our residents and beach goers are having due to construction. The parks are open, it is just that south beach park will
have no amenities or parking until the completion. North beach has parking and bathrooms. This is all for safety and health reasons. Our lifeguards are all on duty and our beaches will remain open. Parks are a vital component of our community. Many residents have wanted our parks upgraded so we embarked on the development our Parks Master Plan. This plan is not the commissions but it is your plan that was created through months of community forums and workshops. As a result of those plans, we have utilized your taxpayer dollars on three parks and will have four parks completed. There are other parks that need to be done but they will not be done at todays’ costs and within six years without voter approval. The decision will, do you want to “play it forward”? The parks can be done with a Government Obligation Bond. The GO Parks Bond will provide that the city can borrow money at today’s rates and pay it back through debt service. This is like taking a mortgage to buy a home. Parks are for everyone. We want them to be world class like many of the voters have told us over the past years. If the bond does
not pass, it would take over twenty years. As a city, we cannot advocate but we can educate. We have had staff put together information that can help you decide. www.gohallandaleparks.com. There is really something for everyone in our plan. Brand new Bluesten Park completed with competition swimming pool, interactive water features, indoor fitness recreation center, regulation soccer and basketball. A new state-of-the-art tennis center with clay and paved courts at Golden Isles Tennis Center. New Golden Isles Park with all brand new equipment and amenities. New Kayak and Paddle Board rentals at Chaves Lake. In addition, all of the other parks: Sunrise, Sunset and Ingalls will get a face lift too! Most importantly, it is a proven fact that access to parks help keep us healthy! Parks help our environment stay healthy too! Green trees, open space and energy efficient buildings. In the end we also save green! Parks also increase property values. This strengthens our community and helps us save you money. Visit www.gohallandalepark.c om and find out the facts.

This scene played itself out so many times over the past month – as south Florida embraced the World Cup like never before. It was perhaps the largest event ever to take place where the entire world was watching every move, goal, save and yellow card that was handed out. “There is nothing like this,” Gonzalez, a Hollywood resident said. “The Super Bowl, World Series, NBA championship. Nothing is close to the magnitude of this event.” Gonzalez was right. Whether you cheered for Argentina or Germany on Sunday, what this showcase has been for so many in various countries around the world is pride. Pride that Americans found out firsthand this year by getting to the Round of 16, before losing to Belgium. While Germany won the tremendous games 1-0 in extra time, this was all about coming to together and celebrating and having a great time. As crowds formed throughout south Florida on Sunday, it was indeed evident that the German’s were not the favorites in this area of the world. Too many Argentinian fans like Cassy Moreno and her friends who started to cheer on her team way before the 3 p.m start. “This is what this sport does for a country,” Moreno said. “I have been a soccer fan all of my life, and to put into perspective what it means to reach the finals of this sport is beyond words.” Moreno, who has four brothers, found out early what national pride was all about. As a youngster growing up, the TV was always set to soccer and that’s what has driven her all of her life. “When your father and brothers grow up watching this sport and are driven to cheers of joy and sadness, you have to get involved and embrace it,” she said. “We love the sport, but much more, we love our country.” A GLOBAL EVENT While German pride was also evident at many different venues across south Florida, this World Cup was all about finally embracing this sport – like none other before. Whether it was the host team Brazil, Argentina, Costa Rica, Spain, Chile, Colombia, Honduras, Russia or the United States, the enthusiasm spread quickly to areas such as Aventura, where population of the community is home to more than 40 different countries, many who packed local restaurants and bars to root on their teams. “This was so exciting at so many levels,” said Ricky Rojas, who was born in America, but has family from Colombia and Ecuador. “No matter where you went in this community during the World Cup, the spirit was high and the games were competitive.” As many of the Central and South American programs are always well represented in south Florida, Aventura has a huge German, English, French and Russian representation as well. With so much pride in his country, Marco Mueller perhaps had the most to celebrate as his cousin, Mario Gotze, ended up scoring the winning goal. He watched every game of the World Cup, including the finals and this North Miami Beach resident never took off his cousin’s jersey. In fact, he has been back to his native country several times to watch many of the individuals play. “I follow all the players on the German team on the internet,” he said. “Not matter if they play in Germany, Spain or for professional English teams. I love soccer at its very finest.” Mueller remembers when USA’s head coach Jurgen Klinsmann played for the German national team and was a decent player. “I have followed soccer since I was 5,” he said. I am 53 now, so I guess I can take you back to 1974 when we won it all in Munich. Franz Beckenbauer, Paul Breiner and Gerd Mueller, who played here for your Fort Lauderdale Strikers.”

She had heard about them, but never attended. She was impressed. "The quality of food that comes from these trucks was really something I never expected," she said. "There were so many different kinds of foods to choose from." In addition to the Food Truck Invasion, hot dog vendors and other specialty food vendors, Steve Harmon, Big105.9’s on-air talent and Paul & Young Ron Morning Show Executive producer, was the MC for the Hot Dog Contest.

For his title this year, eating nine hot dogs and buns in the three minutes, Manresa took home the $500 first place prize, but it wasn't easy. This year's Third Annual Mardi Gras Casino Hot Dog Eating Contest and Burger Beast Hot Dog Fest had some very good competitors - as Michael Jenkins (8) and Nick Coffee (7) gave it a great shot at the cham-
pion. For Manresa, the wait was perhaps the toughest thing. He was in the very first group and had to endure five rounds of watching and hoping that his nine would stand up. "When Michael (Jenkins) started eating, I knew that he could be one that may beat me," Manresa explained. "But he fell short. Nick also did very well, so it was very close this year." For contestants like Mark Wilson, things looked a lot easier than they were. He came to the event hungry, but when he began to eat, found out that it was not going to be a breeze. "I really thought that I

DANIA BEACH - One of the fastest growing areas in South Florida was selected by Bridge Development Partners, LLC for a second warehouse project. Bridge Point Marina Mile in Dania Beach is being constructed to house distributors, manufacturers and freight forwarders, with space of varying size for up to six tenants. Close to the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport and Port Everglades, the new project is the perfect location to attract tenants who are looking to call this exciting area home. "We are excited to be starting our second project with Bridge Development Partners in the South Florida market," states PREMIER’s Senior Vice President Ben Branch. “The project is off to a great start, running smoothly and on target.” The structure is being built with concrete tilt-
wall, structural steel and 45 mil TPO roofing. Fire protection is being carried out with an ESFR (Early Suppression Fast Response) fire sprinkler system. For those who are looking to move to this impressive structure will find that storm water is being handled via exfiltration trenches, and both dry and wet retention. An asphalt parking lot will be placed with 241 parking stalls: 231 standard and 10 handicap stalls. Julie Mahnich of PREMIER Design + Build Group, LLC is the project manager overseeing the development and Ed Lebak is the project superintendent. RLC Architects, Inc. is delivering architectural services and Landplan Engineering Consultants is the Civil Engineer. Jones Lang LaSalle is brokering the facility.
OPENS SOUTHEAST DIVISION In addition to PREMIER Design + Build Group's warehouse project, the company also announced the opening of a second office, located in Broward County, naming Ben Branch as Senior Vice President, Southeast Division. PREMIER has been building new relationships and launching initiatives in the emerging Southeastern segment of the marketplace, creating the need for a physical presence in the region. “The southeastern market segment is well positioned for continued strong growth in the commercial and industrial markets. Additionally, the satellite location will facilitate continued service and growth for existing Midwest connections on a national level. The expansion substantiates the successful handling and completion of numerous projects varying in scale and industry, and serves as a pivotal point of growth for the company. PREMIER was able to sustain a profitable business through the economic downturn, and pre-recession revenues have now been exceeded, establishing strength and demonstrating quality of work in an increasingly competitive economy. The overall success
of the company has been the catalyst to expand to a national level. PREMIER now has a physical presence in the southeast region to orchestrate construction and design needs, supporting the ultimate goal of continued quality and efficiency to existing and prospective clients and partners anywhere in the country. HOLLYWOOD - Hollywood Beach has earned the designation of a Blue Wave Certified Clean Beach by the Clean Beaches Council for 10 consecutive years. This recognizes the continual investment of the City and Community Redevelopment Agency in maintaining the beach and its beauty. Residents and visitors flock to the resorts and Superior Small Lodging® facilities, restaurants, shops, oceanfront parks, paddleball courts, picnic pavilions and more! As the popularity of the beach grows, littering has become a serious challenge. With over 225 trash & recycling receptacles on the sand, Broadwalk and street access areas, Hollywood
Beach has plenty of places for people to properly dispose of trash. In an effort to stop litter bugs, the Hollywood Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) is cracking down with an educational, anti-littering campaign focusing on two of the serious consequences of littering: Negative impacts to the marine life ecosystem including marine and wildlife deaths. Heavy fines of up to $500 for those individuals caught littering. “This campaign is about making people who litter understand there are real consequences for their actions,” says Hollywood Mayor Peter Bober. “We’ve made a tremendous investment in the beautification of our beachfront, and we

won’t let those efforts be degraded by people who can’t make the simple effort to put garbage in a garbage can or recyclables in a recycling container.” The Anti-Littering Campaign Whether intentional or accidental, all litter is preventable. The “please & thank you” approach has not worked. In developing the anti-littering campaign for Hollywood Beach, the Hollywood CRA decided sweettalk is less effective than straight talk. “We will be direct, to the point and adamant in our messaging: STOP LITTERING! We understand that in order to be effective, we need to speak to those who litter versus those who don’t,” says Jorge Camejo, Hollywood CRA Executive Director.
The first wave of the campaign is now in place with the installation of more than 40 light post banners along the Hollywood Beach Broadwalk. These banners creatively depict debris left on the sand and in the water in shapes that reflect various marine creatures from crabs to sea turtles to jellyfish. The message reads “STOP LITTERING, You are not alone” and let’s litter bugs know fines of up to $500 can be imposed for those caught littering. There will soon be decorative wraps on trash bins and 13 electrical cabinets on the beach. How You Can Help Those who want to help protect Hollywood’s beaches and marine habitat can help support the effort by joining in the monthly Hollywood Beach

Veggies galore? Make the most of your garden goodies • If you want to be able to enjoy your hard work all year long and incorporate your vegetables into meals throughout the winter, though, there's still some work to be done (BPT) - You've spent the summer tending and nurturing vegetables that have flourished, and now you have such an abundance of tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers and leafy greens, your home is starting to resemble the produce section of a grocery store. Some people think harvest season is when the work stops for growing fresh fruits and vegetables in the backyard. If you want to be able to enjoy your hard work all year long and incorporate your vegetables into meals throughout the winter, though, there's still some work to be done. Here are some ways to preserve and share the bounty you've
grown in your backyard: * Host a canning party Canning is making a comeback, even for urban families who grow their vegetables in container gardens. If you have tomatoes, peppers, berries, beans, carrots and even peas, canning and freezing are two ways to preserve these items for use throughout the winter months. Both options preserve the nutrients of the fruits and vegetables, and most canning and freezing processes don't require any additional ingredients to be added to the product. If you're looking for a way to add more variety to your pantry, chop tomatoes, peppers and onions into a
Try a pill called fairness Fairness is a wonderful pill…When you swallow a pill called fairness, you may be taking one of the best medicines in existence. Too often people don’t use this medication, and they pay for it, both physically and mentally, in many ways…What is the pill of fairness?... It’s the dedication that one makes to interact with others only if it’s on an even playing field. Now some people are unfair to others, while some are unfair to themselves… As a therapist, it is the latter that I most often see enter my office, and it is to these folks I write this article. It saddens me to see so many people who are unfair to themselves… They are some of the sweetest souls on this planet; kind, empathetic, and always giving way more to others than they get in return… Now don’t get me wrong, giving to others is a blessing, and charitable work demands no payback, but when you continuously base relationships on giving to others who do not reciprocate in kind, you can expect eventually to deteriorate both mentally, and physically… Over the long run most relationships fail based upon unfair dynamics, and are usually part of a cycle of many similar failed relationships. Whether it be trying to please the unloving mother, the over-demanding father, or the abusive husband, a relationship will end up being an unhappy one, unless fairness is demanded as a core ingredient to remain in the relationship. Now with all this being said, one cannot expect exact fairness all of the time. Life can be unfair…, and what exactly is fair may be different in the eyes of the beholder… In any relationship there are times when you have to give a bit more than you receive. Fairness is not about counting nickels. It’s about expecting the similar consideration and respect you give others. It’s about not passively drudging through life feeling like a stepped on door-mat and expecting anti-depressant drugs to make everything all right. Try the pill called fairness, and you just may be able to throw those anti-depressants away. Dr. Ron Dr. Ron is in private practice in Hallandale Beach Florida. You can contact Dr. Ronald J. salsa mixture to be canned. If you have friends in the same situation with an abundance of food, host a canning party. Ask everyone to bring extra pots, hot pads, stirring utensils, knives and cutting boards so you have enough equipment to keep all hands busy. * Pickle your veggies All pickling recipes are different, and it's fun to experiment with different seasonings and techniques. To get started, try this basic pickling spice recipe from Frontier Co-op. It features a balance of flavor that blends several different responsibly sourced seasonings: BALANCED BASIC PICKLE SEASONING 1 teaspoon granulated garlic 1 teaspoon granulated onion 1 teaspoon whole black peppercorns 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes 1/2 teaspoon turmeric root powder For other recipes for preserving your vegetables and incorporat-

ing them into delicious dishes all year long, visit www.frontiercoop.com. * Gift your garden goodies - Ask your coworkers, neighbors and friends if anyone would be interested in some of your fresh produce. Or, better yet, can some of the produce in smaller batches to hand out as gifts. Everyone loves a batch of raspberry jam or a jar of homemade salsa in their holiday stocking or as a thankyou gift. To make the gift look nice, decorate the jar with ribbons or wrap it in a pretty gift bag. * Make fun drinks - If
you grow herbs in your yard, you can either freeze or dry the leaves to preserve their flavors for future use. Or try making herbal soda, which is usually a mixture of lemons, herbs, soda water and simple syrup stirred together for a refreshing summery drink on ice. Invite guests over for a relaxing afternoon on the patio and impress them with your simple, tasty drinks. Your family will also love them for a way to cool down after having fun in the sun. * Share your harvest Families that are food insecure appreciate the fresh produce found at
harvest season. Contact your local food pantry to ask how you can share your harvest with others. They may require specific kinds of produce, or need vegetables to be harvested in a specific way. You can use your vegetables and fruits in meals all year long, and these tips also provide you with great ideas for sharing what you've grown with friends and family. As you reap the benefits of summer's growing season and the care you provided your garden, consider these ways of making the most of your crop.
When disaster strikes, will your pets be safe? (BPT) - Americans living in areas prone to severe storms, floods, earthquakes or other natural disasters may be well aware of the philosophy, "Hope for the best, but plan for the worst." Families with a disaster plan in place will be better equipped to stay safe and recover from an emergency. Too often, however, even the best planners forget to include provisions for the four-legged members of the family. "When disaster strikes, families may not have much time to act," says Dr. Ellen I. Lowery, associate director of U.S. professional and veterinary affairs at Hill's Pet Nutrition. "While organizations like Hill's, through our Disaster Relief Network, strive to help families and pets in the wake of natural disasters, it's important to have a disaster plan ready, including a well-stocked Pet Emergency Go-Kit with food, water and other essentials for your pet." Dr. Lowery offers some guidance for putting your "Pet Emergency Go-Kit" together: * Include first aid supplies and a first aid guide book for pets. * Keep three-day supplies of both your pet's favorite food - in a waterproof container - and bottled water. * Store an extra safety harness and leash because even the best-behaved pet may be frightened in an ermergency, causing him to run and hide. * Include waste cleanup supplies. It's important to properly dispose of pet waste to avoid adding health concerns to an already difficult situation. * If your pet is on any medications, keep a few days' worth in your kit. Also include an up-to-date copy of medical records, as well as contact information for your veterinarian and additional veterinary and pet care organizations in your area. * You should have a brief, written explanation of your pet's feeding routine, personality and any behavioral issues. In a disaster, your pet may receive care from someone who doesn't know him as well as you do. * Don't forget comfort - include a few toys and a favorite blanket to keep your pet comfortable. Keep your Pet Go-Kit somewhere readily accessible in an emergency. Be sure your pet always wears his/her identification - a microchip or collar ID tag with up-to-date information may help reunite you with your pet if you become separated in the confusion of a disaster scene. If an impending disaster requires you to evacuate, take your pet with you. Be aware of your pet's favorite hiding places so you'll know where to look when you're in a hurry to leave. Before disaster strikes, identify locations where you could take your pet during an evacuation; not all disaster shelters for people will be open to pets. Look for pet-friendly hotels or motels, or ask relatives and friends if they could accommodate you and your pets. Despite your best efforts, it may not be possible to take your pet with you. To alert first responders to the possible presence of a pet in the house, place a pet rescue decal on your front door or window. It should include your veterinarian's contact information and any special notes about your pet's personality or medical needs. Carry a picture of your pet in case you become separated. "Pet displacement during natural disasters is such a serious issue, the federal government has even enacted standards for evacuating and transporting pets during disasters," Dr. Lowery says. "One widely quoted report cited Hurricane Katrina as an example of what can happen to pets during a natural disaster. The report said more than 200,000 pets were displaced during the storm, and the majority of them were never reunited with their families." Last year, Hill's launched the Disaster Relief Network, a first-of-its-kind national system that allows the company to quickly coordinate pet food deliveries in response to natural disasters. Since its inception, the network has delivered free food to more than 50 shelters and veterinary clinics in response to floods, forest fires, tornados and mudslides. To learn more about the network, visit http://www.hillspet.com/food-shelter-love/emergency-help.html.

Bring variety to foods served at your picnics and cookouts (BPT) - The warmer months are the perfect time to enjoy meals outdoors, so head out to the backyard or the local park for a sunlit lunch or a breezy, laidback dinner. Your family probably has some favorite picnic menu items they frequently request, but if you're looking to inject some new life into those traditional foods, try the following: * Add sparkle to your salad - Gelatin salads are quick and easy to prepare a day or two in advance of your picnic. If you're interested in giving your gelatin salad a bit of pizzazz, consider using ginger ale or soda water instead of plain water. Or, if your party is for adults only, Champagne or a sparkling wine will give the salad a fun new flavor twist. * Spice up the grill Grilled meat is always a top choice for picnics, and it's an area where you can explore many different flavors to accompany the meat. Take advantage of the growing season by adding chopped
sauces like fruit salsa or pico de gallo to your cooked meats. The fresh flavors of fruits and vegetables from your garden or found at a local farmers market will quickly transform steak, chicken, pork and fish into a new meal. Make the sauce ahead of time so the flavors can meld. Once the meat is cooked, remove from grill and place on plate. Spoon the sauce on top and serve. * Give side dishes a new style - Potato salad is a staple side dish for a classic picnic get-together. This summer, consider trying something new with your traditional recipe. Hashbrowns are a great way to give your salad new texture and taste without straying too far from the traditional German-style potato salad recipe. And to make your picnic menu even easier, Hungry Jack Original Hashbrown Potatoes cook quickly and allow you to skip the whole potato peeling and cutting process. The following Hashbrown Potato
Salad recipe will delight all who attend your next outdoor gathering. HASHBROWN POTATO SALAD 1 carton (4.2 oz.) Hungry Jack Original Hashbrowns 3-4 strips diced bacon 1/3 cup chopped onion 1/3 cup mayonnaise 3 tablespoons cider vinegar 1 tablespoon granulated sugar 1/2 cup diced red bell pepper 1/2 cup thinly sliced celery 2 tablespoons chopped parsley Baby spinach or greens
for serving Directions: Add hot water to hashbrown potatoes per package instructions. Let stand for 12 minutes. Drain well. Heat a 9 or 10-inch nonstick skillet over medium-low heat. Add bacon and onion; cook while stirring frequently until bacon is done and fat is rendered, which should take 10-15 minutes. Stir in potatoes. Cover pan and cook potatoes on low heat for 5 minutes, stirring once. Potatoes do not need to brown. Remove pan from heat. In
a separate small bowl, stir together mayonnaise, vinegar and sugar. Add mayonnaise mixture to potatoes, along with bell pepper, celery and parsley, and mix well. Serve warm or room temperature on a bed of greens. Variation: For a lighter version, use light mayonnaise or substitute 2 tablespoons olive oil for mayonnaise. * Dessert with a surprise - Frozen fruit pops are a popular picnic dessert option and nothing is better than the homemade version. This summer, consider
LAURENZO’S
giving your homemade frozen treats a bit of flavor variation. Instead of using juice to make frozen fruit pops, consider blending yogurt, fresh fruit and some honey together before freezing into delicious chilled treats. Your friends and family will love the surprising new flavors. If you need to transport your frozen treats, place them in a cooler or cardboard box with a small amount of dry ice, which is available at most grocery stores. Once at your picnic location, remove the dry ice from the container to allow the fruit pops to temper; be sure to follow all guidelines for handling dry ice. Have fun with your backyard dining and picnics this summer and be sure to explore all the new textures and tastes you can easily create. You'll probably find yourself planning more meals out-of-doors just so you can try all the new menu items. Visit hungryjackpotatoes.com/r ecipes for other recipe ideas.
