‘AROUND THE CITY OF CHOICE’ City Commission is now moving forward to do a free standing financial audit HALLANDALE BEACH - Last week I covered the Agreed Upon Procedures Audit that covered vendors and developer agreements. The larger portion of the audit was focused on our CRA. This was not a financial audit, but a review of the procedures set by administrative policy. The state performed a financial audit of the CRA in 2006 and only received one comment. The City and the Hospital district did not pay their portion of the TIF since they had protested it. It was later collected. In other years the CRA was part of our city’s annul audit. The City Commission is
Mayor Joy Cooper now moving forward to do a free standing financial audit since the TIF is over 10 million. Our CRA started over 15 years ago with slightly more than $600,000 in tax incre-
ment funding and has grown in excess of $10 million in tax increment funding. Over the course of the years, the CRA was run through our Purchasing Department under the leadership of the City Clerk, Dent McGough. He did all program implementation with limited staff. As the CRA grew, programs increased. The economy also been began to heat up and there was abundant activity taking place within our affordable housing program. Subsequently, Mr. McGough retired and City Manager Mike Good did a search and hired a permanent CRA Director. That director lasted
a year and a half. At that time the City Manager hired from within and promoted Robbie Robinson. Mr. Robinson worked for little over a year and then was let go. A little less than a year later, I and the City Commission asked City Manager Good to resign. With tremendous work load and turnover in Staff, the City Commission agreed it was essential to review compliance with policies and procedures and acquire recommendations. The findings would be utilized as a tool for the future CRA Director. Mr.
Alvin Jackson came on board around the same time the agreed upon procedures were initiated. Marcum was tasked with reviewing all real estate acquisitions and dispositions since the inception of the CRA over 15 years ago. The City acquires property in multiple ways; donations from the county, foreclosures and direct purchase. The properties purchased were for parks and affordable housing programs keeping with the goals of the CRA Board of Directors. Files for 84 properties owned by the

focus on the final few weeks of the season, and especially this weekend when one of the showcases in all of South Florida takes place. It is an event that brings racing fans together with non thoroughbred enthusiasts for a day to remember. People I have suggested the Florida Derby to over the past 10 years always speak fondly about this event that used to be just about race. Since casino gaming was added and the many shops and restaurants at the Village at Gulfstream Park continued to lure in a mix of locals and visitors, the Florida Derby has been turned up several notches. Not interested in the racing? You have you choices, but let me warn you that if you give the experience a chance, you will never regret it. Horse racing people are a hardcore group, but when you have a party like they will have throughout the day and night on Saturday, all bets (excuse the play on words), are off. What makes this Saturday the most important 'Derby ever is that all that pieces of the puzzle are in place. With restaurants throughout the community offering specials - along with those on the Gulfstream property - there will be parties within parties. "Not a huge racing fan," said Hollywood resident Melody Cutler. "But when we went to the Florida Derby last year, it was the atmosphere of having all those people partying and having a good time - all day!" If you are a first time reader of this publication, you must know that I am a homer and I try my best to make sure that all the areas in which this paper serves is covered year round. I write and say things with an eye on the economy. The worst thing in this world is to see businesses, most who poured everything into their investment, have to close the doors. While the Florida Derby is not the definitive answer in solving our financial problems, it is a way to get people into the community to see what all our cities have to offer. Post time on Florida Derby day is 12:30 p.m. The 1 1/8-mile Florida Derby will be shown live on the NBC Sports Network from 5-6 p.m. Gulfstream kicks off Derby Day with its popular Breakfast at Gulfstream from 7:30-10 a.m.

Originally Marcum was provided with 54 of the 84 acquired properties for files. This was brought to the attention of the Commission through a leaked draft report of the initial report. City Manager Antonio took great exception to the way Marcum interfaced with the City since he was not consulted and knew as the past Finance Director and Assistant City Manager, that there should be documentation. Subsequently the auditor was provided property deeds for the additional 30 properties. Dr. Alvin Jackson was on board during this time and was trying to get familiar with the City. With limited knowledge of the departments, it was difficult, at best to track down documentation. Of these 30 properties, 12 donated from Broward County or FDOT and the other 18 were acquired from individuals, the Commission was aware that one of the key issues with the turnover in leadership was record-keeping and tracking of transactions. We do not hire and fire Staff; only the City Manager and City Attorney. We were well aware of the problems since there was ligation with one of the terminations. That is one of the main reasons for initiating the Agreed Upon Procedures Audit. It was found that of
the 54 acquired properties, 48 were purchased by the City and six were gifted to the City. Of the 48 purchased, eight of the properties were payment for foreclosure. The continued sloppy bookkeeping resulted in multiple exceptions being found for all files. There was not one document file that included every item on the laundry list provided by the policies. It must be noted that Marcum shared there is nothing suggesting fraud or malfeasance; just simply shoddy record-keeping. While Marcum was working, the CRA Director was establishing procedures to track all files. Simply things like a check list on each file were added. They are still in the process of completing files to make sure all are cleared and ready to be acted on. The other items addressed were CRA loans; commercial code compliance, business incentive and small business retention and expansion. Marcum found limited exceptions on these files. The City has been acting as a bank on these loans, tracking and doing paper work. It has been recommended that this service be contracted out since we do not have the best IT systems to perform monitoring a monthly basis and it is not a core function of the CRA. Two loans were not paid in full. In one case the business closed and the other the owner passed away. The other key exception on the code loans was follow

up with code compliance. There was no connection between code, building and CRA ensuring work was brought to code. This would have happened when building received CO, but there was not documentation. Our CRA has become a very complex operation. We have new leadership and better mechanisms in place to ensure the department runs smoothly. It should be also noted, as in life, there is always the chance for human errors. We always look to new and innovative ways to address exceptions. The Commission sets policy and it is up to the City Manager to implement policy. This is the foundation of the Council/Manager form of government. In this case the additional oversight of the City Commission by implementing an Agreed Upon Procedures was warranted and provided insights into what Staff needed to address. GREEN TIP Hallandale Beach Commission is looking for input on whether to move forward on plans to plant Mangroves at location around the Golden Isles Bridges, Three Islands and other areas around the city. Friday night March 30th, the Hollywood Dog Track at the Mardi Gras Casino will host the 61st running of the American Greyhound Derby. This event, which has been raced in Massachusetts and Rhode Island since 1949, is known as "The Kentucky Derby of Greyhound Racing". This year’s field is a talented bunch, led by rookie sensation Kelsos Guardian (Kelsos Fusileer-Kelsos Hifalutin) owned by John Kelly of New Jersey and trained by veteran dog handler Dennis Smith. Guardian has won all four of his qualifying races and has drawn the coveted one box. At only 29 months old, he would become the youngest ever American Derby Champion. He will have to try to hold off Florida distance veteran Goodlucksterling (RA BlazerGood Luck Leslie) of the DQ Williams Kennel, who will be breaking from post four and is trained by Carlos Perez . This year commemorates the 35th anniversary of South Florida greyhound racing leg-
end Downing's victory in the 1977 American Greyhound Derby. Downing, who ran at the Hollywood and Biscayne racetracks is considered by many to be the fastest greyhound in the history of the sport. Fashion From Page 1A –––––––––––––––––––– bordered on the west by northeast First Avenue, on the east by northeast Second Avenue, on the south by Hallandale Beach Boulevard, and on the north by Third Avenue, into an arts district similar to Wynwood in Miami. The plan is partly the result of suggestions from business owners and partly of a study completed by Florida Atlantic University on how to revitalize the area. NARROWER STREET, WIDER SIDEWALKS The plan would include narrowing the street to a single lane so parking spaces could be increased and wider sidewalks could be built to make the area more pedestrian friendly. Landscape islands would be built, and free Wifi would be offered. Business owners could be eligible for grants of up to $7,500 to put toward beautifying their properties. Another major component of the plan is colorful, eyecatching murals on the exterior walls of buildings. “Thirty-five years ago, the district was a hub for inexpensive fashion, and businesses were doing well,” says Liza Torres, manager of the Community Redevelopment Agency. “Now it’s died down. Two years ago, business owners came to us with ideas on how to renovate the fashion district into an area like Wynwood.” Two murals are currently proposed parts of the plan, Torres says: one of them would be a trompe l’oeil, and the other would be created by school children working under the direction of a professional artist. Josh Wasser of Wasser’s Exclusive Furniture says he suggested the murals. “When people drive by, it would encourage them to walk in the area,” he says. “Murals attract young, hip people, and the population of Hallandale is getting younger—a lot of my clients now are people who come down to visit their vacation homes.” Josh Wasser’s father, Alan Wasser, opened the furniture store in 1981, and Josh joined the business in 2006 after graduating from college. “When my dad started here, Fashion Row was one of the hottest places to go,” he says. “Now it’s very lackluster. Commissioners have talked a lot about what they’re going to do, but I got burnt out because I didn’t see results. They’re good at telling us what we can’t do. The commission needs to be more proactive, and I’m hoping this time, they will be.” Wasser has doubts about how quickly things will move, regardless of whether the commission passes the plan. “A mural has to be approved first by the commission and then by the CRA, and that can take months.” George Abbondante is the owner of Nick’s restaurant, a landmark

SPOTLIGHT ON HOLLYWOOD Students Spruce up City Streets at annual ‘Catch Basin Clean-up’ By Ali Parker, Regulatory Compliance Officer HOLLYWOOD Chaminade students helped clean up our streets and storm drains last month during Hollywood’s annual “Catch Basin Clean-up” event. This project was a joint effort between Hollywood’s volunteer office, Public Services Department and Chaminade High School as part of Chaminade’s spring break service week. Catch basin clean-up events teach students about the impacts of pollution on our waterways while engaging them in solving the problem. One of the first lessons participants learned was, in addition to being aesthetically unappealing, trash on our streets causes numerous problems for our stormwater systems. Storm drains in Hollywood have a single purpose: to move water off streets and away from residences and buildings. This stormwater is not treated; it is simply moved from one place to another in an effort to lessen flooding impacts. Any trash on adjacent streets flows into our catch basins (catch basins and storm drains refer to the same device). Trash clogs catch basins, increasing localized flooding, and travels through the system to connected water bodies. This means that

Chaminade students and chaperones gather for a farewell photo after completing their street cleaning efforts. empty soda cans, potato chip bags, cigarettes and other trash that is thrown out a car window will end up in our canals, lakes, the Intracoastal, or on our beaches. Until the clean-up, many of the students were unfamiliar with the workings of our stormwater systems. They were encouraged to discuss the ways that pollution entering the stormwater system is detrimental to Hollywood and our environment. Some responses included the fact that trash on the beaches (and the streets too) hurts tourism which is a big source of income for the city and local businesses. Harm to wildlife was another big concern for the students. They knew plastics could injure fish, birds, and other marine life and cited specific examples such as the way that sea turtles can become
ill and even die after attempting to ingest plastic shopping bags. Many marine animals have tried to ingest plastic bags and other plastic items because when floating in the water they resemble jellyfish or other aquatic food sources. The plastic rings that hold six packs together were also well known for their tendency to entangle, choke and strangle wildlife. Following their stormwater education and orientation, the students were separated into teams to pick up the trash that had just been
discussed. The City supplied chaperones, area maps, trash “grabbers” to pick up refuse, trash bags, gloves, and water. Several hours later, the tired students completed their volunteer service with a newfound appreciation for clean sidewalks and storm drains! The group removed enough cans, bottles, paper, cigarette butts, and other unsavory debris to fill up a pick-up truck. The area they cleaned up was from Dixie Highway and the neighborhoods west of Dowdy Field between Taft and Filmore Street
Several groups were also shown how to stencil “Dump No Waste” messages onto pavements adjacent to storm drains. Stencils help remind passersby that their litter ends up in our water bodies. The students who participated in this year’s Catch Basin Clean-up not only made our streets cleaner, but they also developed a new commitment to prevent-
ing littering in the future. Many of these young people were amazed that even those streets that looked fairly clean when in a car produced numerous smaller pieces of trash that were stuck in bushes, caught in storm drains, and hooked on fences. These same Chaminade High School students were also involved in a Hollywood beach clean-up later in the week. The facts they learned about the negative impact of pollution to stormwater systems during the “Catch Basin Clean-up” continued to motivate them to remove as much trash as possible from our beaches. Staff would like to thank all those who contributed to these wonderful projects. Hopefully the participants will continue to be part of Hollywood’s “pollution solutions” in the future.

Lose weight for the wedding, but say 'I do' to a healthy lifestyle (ARA) - Since getting engaged, Jillian Brown, 32, from St. Paul, Minn., is hitting her neighborhood fitness center more often. "I've added weight training to my regimen," says Brown, who is planning an August wedding. "I have to get those arms and shoulders wedding dress ready." Every bride wants to look great when the big day comes, but how many brides commit to fitting into her wedding dress on their 10th anniversary? Do you want to look good for a day, or feel good for the rest of your life? While considering vows, include a commitment to live healthfully ever after. That's the advice from Cliff Edberg, a registered dietician and personal trainer at Life Time Fitness, The Healthy Way of Life Company, in Chanhassen, Minn. Edberg, says it's important to celebrate the milestone and good work you put into the wedding day. "Just be sure to continue to set goals," he adds. Brown is already thinking beyond the wedding day to having a healthy honeymoon. "Just like all of the vacations we have taken, we will seek out meal
options that are healthy and satisfying," Brown says. "While we haven't decided on our honeymoon spot yet, we are looking at places where we can be active, instead of locations where the days are filled with lying on a beach." Once the honeymoon is over Edberg suggests newlyweds rely on each other as their support team. One way to do that is for couples to spend time cooking meals together. "Often people get bored with 'eating healthy' but they just don't take time to explore new food and new ways of preparing food." Edberg also suggests exploring new ways to exercise together as a couple. "Try to emphasize play in your activity," Edberg says. "When we have fun during activity, especially together, there is a higher likelihood that it will continue and form a habit." And the less likely you will be to fall back into old sedentary habits. Hallandale Beach Chamber President to document 'March of the Living' By Marylynne Newmark “If you believe in something, you must stand up for it and be counted.” That is the credo of Carole Pumpian, president of the Hallandale Beach Chamber of Commerce. That is how this successful public relations professional has lived her life, and will continue to do so “until I take my last breath;” she states. Carole is a passionate woman and believes in living life to its fullest. In just a few short weeks, Carole will be part of a small contingent of Florida adults who will embark on a phenomenal journey. They will be joining 10,000 other travelers from around the world in an awesome trip that will trace the steps of the millions of Jews who were imprisoned and murdered at the hands of the Nazis in the Carole Pumpian concentration camps of Auschwitz, Birkenau, Majdenek and Treblinka. This trip is a preliminary option to Mega-Mission to Israel 2012, organized and sponsored by the Greater Miami Jewish Federation. ‘March of the Living’ is organized for Jewish teenagers every year by Jewish organizations throughout the world so that they may witness firsthand and remember the fate that befell European Jewish men, women and children in the lifetime of today’s grandparents. The haunting motto that came out of that horrible era is, “Never Forget!” and Jews worldwide remain committed to that. Every few years, March of the Living is offered to a limited number of adults, and Carole, activist that she is, jumped at the opportunity. The March will begin in Krakow, Poland with a visit to the remains of the Krakow ghetto, where trip participants will be given a unique glimpse into Jewish life in Poland just prior to the start of World War II. The group will proceed to the Plashov concentration camp to learn about its operations and notorious past. The group will then be ushered to Birkenau and Auschwitz where they actually will walk hand-in-hand with some of the remaining survivors who lived through those harrowing experiences seventy years ago. The March will continue over the next few days to the Majdenek camp before returning to Warsaw, where participants will visit the Warsaw ghetto, a place of great Jewish resistance, starvaion and death before the remaining Warsaw Jews were herded into Umschlagplatz, the final dispatching point into railroad cars that transported families to the various death camps. “We cannot forget this,” Carole Pumpian says. “Our grandchildren have to know about it. It is important for them to feel the connection. The survival of our people depends it!” “Personally, I have always felt connected to my Jewish heritage,” she adds. “It was not necessarily a religious link. I can better describe it as an intensively strong cultural tie.” Although born in New York, Carole was raised in Montreal. When political unrest surfaced in Quebec in 1978, Carole chose to move to Florida. She has lived and traveled around the world, with her ever-present Jewish connection close to her heart. Carole continued to describe how much joining the March means to her. “An entire culture, almost a complete generation of European Jews were annihilated along with six million others for no other reason than because of who they were. We have to remember that. It has happened before, and it can happen again. I MUST make that walk!” Carole expressed sadness about other genocides that are happening around the world, even today, in Africa, in Asia and parts of Europe. “The good people of this world need to take a stand,” she says. “Evil cannot prevail if we want a better life for the generations to come. Passover’s ultimate shopping destination has everything you need
By Marylynne Newmark When I heard that a Kosher market opened in Gulfstream Village, I was amazed. The Village, a new favorite destination for fun, shopping, entertainment and just plain schmoozing, featuring a Kosher market? As a business and health writer, my interest peaked, and I’m glad it did, I was really impressed. With healthy eating at its core, the store is immaculately clean with displays of fruit and vegetables enticingly stacked. Large refrigerated open bins boast fresh soups and packaged ready-to-go prepared foods a la the kitchen of Jacob’s Chef Morris, as well as rows of strictly Kosher dairy products. I ‘wowed’ my way through the aisles of kosher packaged products from around the world with noodles and couscous, farfel and spices, jarred fruits and candies, and special sections of Judaic home and gift items. I opted to choose lunch from an array of freshly-made prepared meals on the market’s center stage. It was a tough decision to select from at least 20 different choices of enticing ready-to-eat meat, chicken, fish, salad or grain combinations. I chose chicken stuffed with vegetables…yum! To me, perhaps because I am a ‘nosher’ (nibbler), the ‘grabber’ was the bakery. My nose brought me there and I could barely leave. The array of freshly-baked-on-the premises breads, cakes, cookies, bobkas, chocolatefilled cigars, even dark chocolate covered nuts, was a magnet. I was like a kid in a

Even the potato, mushroom or chocolate bourekas had my name on them. While standing there, salivating, I met Deborah Weinberg of Hallandale Beach. She must have noticed my wonder and asked if this was my first visit to Jacob’s. When hearing the affirmative, she said, “I was there on opening day and have been a steady customer since. Jacob’s Glatt Kosher prepared food, meats, packaged foods and wines from around the world are absolutely unbeatable. So are their prices,” she added. “In fact, I’m already shopping for Passover!!” As we spoke, Jacob’s employees were rolling in huge palettes of matzos and wines. I could not help but notice the assortment of matzos. Choices include Shmura matzos, Schatzer matzos, whole wheat and regular, Chabad matzos, Borough Park matzos, gluten-free or spelt. And the endless selection of kosher wines originate from all points
global. “With my grandchildren coming for Pesach,” said Mrs. Weinberg, “and my son a Lubavitch, I will do all my shopping here. Jacob’s is so convenient for Hallandale, Hollywood, Aventura and Sunny Isles, with plenty of easy-access parking. The staff is very helpful, and Jacob’s even delivers!” Of course, Mrs. Weinberg says she is going to make her own matzo ball soup, brisket and turkey, but she plans to order all her Kosher-for Passover salads, sides and desserts from Jacobs. “I’m even rethinking to not make a turkey, but to order the baby rack of lamb from Jacob’s instead.”
Glancing through the Passover menu, she said, “Hmmm. I think I might even consider the honey BBQ beef ribs and stuffed cabbage.” Jacob’s features a full seder dinner menu that includes brisket, chicken and/or turkey, matzo, grape juice, homemade sweet gefilte fish, homemade chicken soup with matzo balls and a choice of kugel, tzimmes, gravy and Julienned vegetables. However, orders must be placed soon, so it’s time to make decisions now. The delicious fresh salads for Passover include mesculum, beet salad, cucumber salad, Israeli salad, Babaganoush, egg-
plant and vegetable salad, red cabbage salad, mushroom salad and beef chopped liver. Ready-to-eat fish meals from Jacob’s for the Passover table include herb crusted salmon, Moraccan fish, lemon fish almondine, teriyaki glazed salmon and gefilte fish. As per the brochure, you can order chicken as Marsala, Francaise, fire-grilled BBQ, sweet and sour, or even purchase individual little stuffed Cornish hens. Every product, whether fresh or packaged, is Glatt Kosher and tightly scrutinized by a mashgiach (a rabbi who guarantees
that everything is according to kashruth (strict kosher dietary law). In a Dutch oven, stir together the broth, chopped onions, lemon juice, oil, ginger, paprika, coriander, allspice, cardamom, salt and pepper. Add the turkey and bring to a boil over mediumhigh heat. Fold in the egg whites. Pour the batter into the prepared pan. Bake until the top is golden brown and springs back when lightly touched. Remove from the pan and cool completely on a wire rack. When completely cool, cut the cake into 8 wedges. Serve with the strawberries.

Police Capt. Sonia Quinones graduates from the FBI National Academy City of Hallandale Beach Police Capt. Sonia Quinones joined an elite fraternity recently when she was graduated from the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Va. “It puts her on par nationally with about one percent of the officers,” said Hallandale Beach Police Chief Capt. Sonia Quinones Dwayne Flournoy. “She learned the latest trends and what law enforcement can expect in the future.” Chief Flournoy knows first-hand the benefits of the FBI National Academy; he is one of three officers within the department to have the credentials. Capt. Miguel “Mike” Martinez is the third graduate. “For a small agency like us, it’s quite good to have three National Academy graduates,” the chief said. Many departments don’t have any graduates. “Even if you’re lucky, you may get a slot offered every five years or so,” Chief Flournoy said. It’s called the FBI National Academy; however, every class includes several international law enforcement officers. That’s why the competition or a slot is so intense. Only the elite officers who have distinguished themselves within their department may get an invitation. The stressful 10-week course pushes law enforcement officers physically, intellectually and emotionally. Courses in advance investigation, law, behavioral science, forensic science, understanding terrorism/terrorist mindsets, leadership and communication are some of the programs Capt. Quinones completed. Physically, she was tested on the rigors of the 6.1-mile “Yellow Brick Road” course designed by the U. S. Marines. The course over through the woods, over hilly terrain, included 26 obstacles that must be scaled or tackled by the class members. The course earned its name from the yellow bricks the Marines used to outline the trail for participants. “The greatest benefit is the networking,” he added. “(Capt. Quinones) can now reach out almost anywhere in the world for information and help.”
Municipal Pool closed mornings
The City of Hallandale Beach Municipal Pool will be closed to the general public until 1 p.m., Monday through Friday, April 9, through May 4, for Swim Central to provide free swimming lessons to Hallandale Elementary School kindergarten students. The pool, located at Peter Bluesten Park, 202 SE 5th Street, will be open to the general public at 11 a.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. Swim Central is a Broward County program that offers free swimming lessons to all kindergarten-age students. Annually, Swim Central partners with the City of Hallandale Beach and Broward County Schools to provide lessons at the Municipal Pool. Each kindergarten class at Hallandale Elementary School will use the pool for two weeks during school days, beginning each morning at 10 a.m., and ending at 1 p.m. When not in use by the Swim Central program, the Municipal Pool is open seven days a week; 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. through Monday, April 30. Beginning May 1, the pool will open at 11 a.m. seven days a week, and close at 7:45 p.m. on Saturday, Sunday, Monday, Wednesday and Friday nights, through Friday, Aug. 31. The pool will close at 5:45 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays, May 1 through August 31.

Four candidates to replace retiring Hallandale Beach City Manager Mark Antonio have been invited to meet with the Mayor and City Commission at 10 a.m., Saturday, March 31, at Hallandale Beach City Hall. After the Mayor and each City Commissioners meets individually with each candidate, the City Commission will convene a special meeting at 1:30 p.m. to collectively interview the candidates. The City Commission could name the City’s new chief executive at that meeting or postpone the decision to a later date. The list was narrowed from 76 to nine during the initial interview process and pared to four fi-

Prior to the formal interviews, the candidates have been invited to tour the city on Friday, March 30, and then meet with City department directors and staff at 5:15 p.m. City residents are invited to meet the candidates at a community reception at 6 p.m. at the Cultural Community Center, 410 SE 3rd Street. The search for a successor was launched in late 2011 after Mr. Antonio announced plans
to retire on Friday, June 29, 2012. The date will be Mr. Antonio’s 25th anniversary with the City of Hallandale Beach. The Mayor and City Commission plan to have the new City Manager in place by June 1, to work with Mr. Antonio and affect a seamless transition. Senior Championships 2012 come to an end It took a week, but the City of Hallandale Beach Senior Championships 2012 ended last Thursday with the crowing of the men’s and women’s Bocce Champions at the Golden Isles Tennis Center. The games were suspended for a week because of inclement weather. The team of Grace Anzalone and Maria Lepore won the woman’s doubles division. Silvio Presta and Fernando Lepore captured the men’s division. The teams were selected at random on Thursday, March 15. Heavy rains midway through the first match suspended play until Thursday, March 22. Players competed in six contests during the first Senior Championships, table tennis, dominoes, bowling, tennis, poker and bocce.
