Come Dance with the Starz With classes for ages 2 to adult, Rising Starz offers superior training at all levels regardless of the age, goal, or training level of the student. With over 100 classes on our schedule, students can find the right class for their age, level, interests and time constraints. It is our goal to provide the type of training that equips our students to pursue a professional career in dance and other arts should they desire such.

THEATRE ETIQUETTE CHEAT SHEET:

At our studio, we want everyone to enjoy the recital performances! To enhance everyone’s enjoyment of the show, we believe in emphasizing rules of common theatre etiquette.

1. D O NOT DISTURB: Keep in mind that the performers can hear and see you. Turn off your phones. Be a quiet neighbor. We want everyone to have a good experience.

3. PHOTOGRAPHY/VIDEOGRAPHY: Please remember that photography and videography are not allowed during the recital performances.

2. E NTERING/EXITING: Once you arrive, please do not enter/exit the theatre unless it is a true emergency. If you must, leave inbetween numbers, not during.

4. F OOD/DRINK: Food and drink is not allowed in the theatre.

And, most importantly, remember to enjoy the show! Our dancers have worked very hard, and they will greatly appreciate your applause and enthusiasm for the parts of the show that you enjoy. –Thank you, Rising Starz Staff

THE

Firebird

While hunting one day, Prince Ivan Tsarevich becomes lost in a mysterious forest. He wanders into a clearing where a magical tree is growing, tended to by four wood sprites. When Ivan gets closer to the tree to further examine it, a Firebird, the guardian of the forest, appears to protect the tree. Ivan believes the Firebird to be worth a fortune and captures her to bring home to his kingdom.

Upon being captured, the Firebird immediately becomes despondent.

Understanding that the creature must be free, Ivan takes pity on her and releases her. As a thank you, the Firebird gives him one of her feathers, explaining if he ever finds himself in trouble, he must wave the feather in the air and she will come to his aid.

Still lost, Ivan is then approached by a group of princesses. They dance with him to ease his nerves and attempt to find a solution to his plight. Another young woman, who appears to be the group’s leader, appears and asks what is going on. After examining Ivan, the woman joyfully identifies herself as his beloved childhood friend, Princess Vaslanna. Vaslanna, along with the other princesses, had mysteriously disappeared years ago, thought to have been kidnapped. Happy to be reunited, Ivan and Vaslanna celebrate by dancing.

The reunion is unfortunately interrupted by horrific monsters, who gleefully terrorize the group. As it turns out, Vaslanna, along with the other princesses, had indeed been kidnapped by Kaschei the Immortal, an evil sorceress.

Kaschei had magically been harnessing the princesses’ youth and innocence to keep herself alive. Furious that her home and prisoners have been found, she becomes intent on killing Ivan.

Right before Kaschei strikes, Ivan remembers his feather and frantically waves it in the air. Almost immediately, the Firebird appears with the wood sprites and they lull all but Ivan into a deep slumber. The Firebird tells Ivan that Kaschei has absorbed her soul into the staff she has been carrying. If Ivan breaks the staff, both Kaschei’s power and immortality will be no more. Ivan retrieves the staff just as the rest are awakened from their sleep.

Kaschei and her monsters frantically attempt to steal back the staff, but their efforts are proved futile when Ivan snaps the rod. Instantly mortal and weak, Kaschei is carried away by her monsters, leaving Vaslanna and the rest of the princesses to escape the forest with Ivan.

Ivan, Vaslanna, the Firebird and the princesses celebrate their freedom through dance. The monsters threaten revenge, although are now powerless without their mistress. The wood sprites gleefully go back to prancing around their tree. A spectre of Kaschei quietly leaves the forest in her broken, ghostlike state, never to be seen again.

The World Baton Twirling Federation (WBTF) International Cup competition gives athletes the opportunity to represent their countries on an international level. In August, the 2019 International Cup (IC) competition will be held in Limoges, France and 3 members of Rising Starz Studios have been selected to be part of Team USA. Kaitlyn McGregor, Maddox Mullen and Erin Smith are members of teams based out of Nashville and Atlanta that qualified for IC competition last July at the USTA National Championships. Along with the team competition, Erin and Kaitlyn also qualified to compete in individual and pairs events. Follow their journey on the Rising Starz Twirling Academy Facebook page as they travel to France and compete for Team USA.
