The daughter knew from a young age that she wasn’t the child her parents wanted. She felt trapped in her mundane, orchestrated life and her only form of escape made her feel like she was betraying her family. After years of guilt and shame about her identity, a parasitic being from the recesses of her mind comes to show her what she desires.

It used to be that I’d see yo u every other day. Then it was on week ends, or maybe a few ti mes a month. Me eting less was fine, though; we were never the kind of fr iends that need ed to see each other ever y day to stay close. When we first grew apart, it was just a difference of time and pl ace – a tangible gap, easy to close. And you, who felt like a stranger for weeks or months, could be yourself ag ain within minutes: the “you” that I’ve always known. But now there’s someth ing obstructing what used to be the clear space between us, something sharp and dense. Like gn arled vines pr eventing me from bridgi ng the gap.
