he most bankable star (arguably) in Hollywood returns. Will Smith returns after his third successful outing in “Men in Black 3” last year and this spring he is set to explode onto our screen with his new film After Earth in which he stars once again alongside his son Jaden. After Earth isn’t the first movie Will has collaborated on with his on Jaden. He and Jaden co-starred in the critically acclaimed film The Pursuit of Happyness in 2006 which garnered the elder Mr. Smith an Academy Award nomination for best actor. After Earth is directed by none other than M. Night Shyamalan who brought us thrillers such as Sixth Sense, Unbreakable & Signs, and follows a formerly absentee father in General Cypher Raige (Will Smith), who travels with his son Kitai (Jaden Smith) from a new planet called Nova Prime on a space faring journey. Things don’t go as planned they never do, do they? and the duo are forced to land on Planet Earth. Earth is now devoid of humans however, the planet is now ruled by something else…

The Beginning Will Smith was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on September 25, 1968 to mother Caroline, a school board employee, and father Willard C. Smith, the owner of a refrigeration company.

The pair became friends, and the duo DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince was born. The pair began producing music, but steered clear of the Gangsta Rap sound that was emerging on the West Coast in groups like Public Enemy and NWA. The Fresh Prince rapped about teenage preoccupations in a clean, curse-free style that Middle America found safe and entertaining. The pair’s first single, “Girls Ain’t Nothing But Trouble,” was a hit in 1986. Their debut album Rock the House in 1990 hit the Billboard Top 200, and made Will a millionaire before the age of 18. In 1988, DJ Jazzy Jeff and The Fresh Prince continued their success with the album He’s “The DJ, I’m The Rapper” featuring the radio-friendly singles “Parents Just Don’t Understand,” “Brand New Funk,” and “Nightmare on My Street.” The album won the first ever Grammy Award for a Rap Performance. That album was followed by “And In This Corner...” which continued the pair’s rise to stardom.

His middle class upbringing saw him attend the strict and Catholic Overbrook High School, despite his family’s observation of the Baptist faith. His West Philadelphia neighbourhood was a melting pot of cultures where Orthodox Jews coexisted with a large Muslim population. Will was a popular student whose charming personality and quick tongue were renowned for getting him out of trouble, a trait for which he soon gained the nickname “Prince.’’ At the age of 12, Will began rapping, emulating heroes like Grandmaster Flash but tingeing his rhymes with a comedic element that would later become his trademark. At 16, he met a DJ at a party by the name of Jeff Townes. 10

During this time Will spent his money freely and underpaid his income taxes, the Internal Revenue Service assessed a $2.8 million tax debt against him, and to repay the debt took many of his possessions, and garnished his income. Will was nearly bankrupt but his luck was to change, NBC Television Network where looking to appeal to a younger crowd with a new sitcom and in 1990 Will signed a contract and overnight became known as The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. The show was a huge success that ran for six seasons. Meanwhile, Will and Towne kept producing music and in 1991 the album “Homebase” produced the hits “Summertime” and “Ring My Bell.” While still making The Fresh Prince of BelAir, Will began a crossover into movies. Small roles in the drama Where The Day Takes You in 1992 and the comedy Made In America in 1993 were followed by a critically acclaimed lead in the drama Six Degrees of Separation in 1993. Will played a charming street-wise kid moving among the wealthy elite, who was also

a psychologically complex gay hustler. The film enjoyed moderate success, but its title idea has become a household term for the closeness of human society. Will’s first steps into super-stardom came with his next film, Bad Boys in 1995 the directorial debut of Michael Bay. The high-budget cop movie saw him team up with comic Martin Lawrence, breaking away from the black-copwhite-cop traditional formula that had been so successful in Beverly Hills Cop and the Lethal Weapon series. The two black leads proved an instant success with Will playing the smooth, serious, cop to Lawrence’s clown established Will as leading man material. The 1996, epic sci-fi disaster movie Independence Day directed by Roland Emmerich’s was his next assignment. The role confirmed Will as a major player in Hollywood and the go-to guy for summer blockbusters. Will played an air force pilot leading the counterattack against the invading alien forces, and his SPOTLIGHT MAGAZINE

comedic talents effortlessly transformed into the pithy one-liners all action heroes need to be able to drop while dispatching their enemies.

The golf movie The Legend of Bagger Vance was his next big film, with Will playing the caddie to Matt Damon’s out-of-sorts swinger. In 2001 the biopic Ali, based on boxing legend Muhammad Ali, saw Will, return to critical acclaim. His turn as the charismatic boxing great saw Will, put in the performance of his life, training and disciplining himself to extraordinary lengths to do justice to the athleticism, and ego, of the films main character, the film under-performed at the boxoffice despite a record-breaking opening day. Will’s performance, however, was good enough to be nominated for a Best Actor Oscar. A number of sequels were next, with Will, reprising his roles in Men In Black and Bad Boys. Neither were flops, but they were both nowhere near as successful as their predecessors. Staying with the sci-fi action theme Will, moved on to I, Robot in 2004. The Isaac Asimov adaptation saw Will playing a cop in 2035 investigating a murder by a robot and then battling a robot insurgency. The film performed well, grossing more than $144 million in U.S. box offices.

Will’s smooth-talking charmer persona was put to use in the 2005 romantic comedy, Hitch. Will fought aliens again in his next blockbuster, the comic sci-fi action film Men In Black in 1997, playing opposite Tommy Lee Jones, Will chewed up the screen as the new recruit to Jones’s old hand. Willsang the theme song, and its inclusion on his solo album, Big Willie Style in 1997 brought the multi-talented actor another success. Another blockbuster followed with the slick conspiracy thriller Enemy of the State in 1998, which earned Will an NAACP Image Award nomination for Outstanding Actor in a Motion Picture. The string of hits came to an end in 1999 with Wild Wild West, a sci-fi cowboy Western costarring Kevin Kline. Despite the film’s lackluster box-office performance, the track Will cut for the film became a hit on his album, “Willennium” in 1999. Will had originally been offered the role to play Neo in The Matrix, but turned it down in favour of the Wild Wild West unfortunately Wild Wild West was panned by critics and The Matrix went on to become a trilogy blockbuster despite the disappointment of Wild Wild West, Will has said that he harbours no regrets about his decision, asserting that Keanu Reeves’s performance as Neo was superior to what he himself would have achieved. 12

Will played a ladies’ man and dating consultant who helps luckless guys with their romantic moves. Will penned the theme song, and included it on his album Lost and Found in 2005. Hitch was a massive success, and was followed by another critical and financial hit, the 2006 rags-to-riches tale, The Pursuit of Happyness. Starring alongside his real-life son Jaden, Will captivated audiences with the story of a single father who has to build a life from scratch. He received his second Academy Award nomination for Best Actor for his performance.

In 2007, Will starred in I Am Legend, a remake of the Charlton Heston film Omega Man, where he battled blood-thirsty vampires. The film became a national and international hit.

After a four year hiatus 2012 saw Will, reprise his role in Men in Black 3, with Will playing Agent J for the third time and in Spring 2013 Will returns to his scifi roots in After Earth, which we are sure will be a summer blockbuster which Will is so good at achieving. 13

Flower Fashion Everything changes with the passing of time. What was the ultimate look of some time ago, seems to be oldfashioned now. This doesn’t only happen in the fashion industry. When it comes to flower design, the same thing occurs. Everything starts with the interior design, whilst flowers are complimentary. We came to the point that anything is in and we can’t talk about the latest interiors. We are living in a decade in wich everything is admitted. Especially living in a place like Marbella, which is very cosmopolitan. The latest trends from all over the world are gathered here. Every country has its particular view of fashion. That’s what makes the coast so unique. Flowers are used to give a certain look to a space. Let us talk about parties and weddings. Although some people still go for the traditional look, more and more it happens that a special theme is chosen. Flowers should enhance and enforce a decoration and must convert a venue in a unique way. More and more we here about 1001 night, Bollywood, the Sixties, Oriental or Spanish party themes. You can imagine the different types of flower decorations wich are needed to give this final touch. The same happens with color schemes. Who can tell what is the color in flowers of this year? I am sorry, but can’t give an answer to this question. This leads to another question. Who decides in the fashion industry what is going to be next year’s color? For sure the designers are responsible for this. When it comes to flower arranging, something similar happens. A good example is the flower decoration done in the Four Seasons Hotels. It all started in the George V Hotel in Paris. Their florist achieved a real breakthrough. Flowers putted upside down, submerged totally in water or letting groups of flowers sit on top of a vase. In spite of these fabulous innovations, the classic style still has got its public. It is true that white flowers are the most popular ones since quiet a few years. They always seem to look great in any surroundings and give this elegant touch. Good and safe to be chosen as we have to send flowers and we are not sure about the interior of the person’s house we are sending the flowers to. But when it comes to decorating a party, rules are changing. White flower display do remind us of weddings. Although we think that we are very open-minded, something classic stays present in the back of our minds. The same happens whith multi-color flower arrangement on weddings. Of course the final effect can be smashing, but didn’t we expect the décor to be white? The only thing that really has changed in flower arranging is the designs of the arrangements. Things seem to be far more natural and the use of greenery is a must now. A flower looks much better when surrounded by different types of leaves. New materials are introduced, like branches, raffia, fruits, etc. Combining various textures to achieve a natural but surprising look. So: What is fashion, what is in, what is cool...? The truth is that there is no satisfying answer. Did you know that male customers mostly prefer multi-color displays and women normally go for a much softer look? It all depends on personal taste and preferences. Your surroundings should be comforting and express your personality. Flowers play an important part in it. I am so glad that the flower business is still very individual and can be considered as an art. It all depends on the design and creativity of the florist and some of us really do a good job!!!! “BMW’s new i3 electric city car will be launched in 2013”

he i3, previously known as Megacity Vehicle, is a four-seat city car that uses technology developed in the prototype electric Mini E. The i3 eschews the traditional low-slung lines of contemporary BMW small cars for a distinctly more upright stance aimed at providing the i3’s four adult occupants with excellent all-round visibility.

At 3845mm in length, 2011mm in width and 1537mm in height, the five-door i3 is 120mm longer, 326mm wider and 132mm higher than the Mini One. It rides on a platform boasting a 105mm longer wheelbase at 2570mm and wider tracks. Therefore the i3 has a larger footprint than its Mini stablemate, yet it’s still smaller than any existing BMW model.

“We could gear it to achieve a much higher top speed, but in the interests of range we have decided to cap it at a level we think will be sufficient for most needs”.

With 168bhp and gutsy 184lb ft of torque, the brushless motor is claimed to propel the i3 from 0-37mph in 3.9sec and from 0-62mph in 7.9sec. Maximum speed is limited to 93mph to protect the charge of the battery BMW state that:

BMW claims a total recharge time of the battery pack in six hours on a conventional 220 volt mains charge. An overall range of between 80-100miles is expected for the i3, which BMW believes is sufficient for 90 per cent of journeys. But BMW has revealed for the first time, the i3 will be offered with an optional range extender powertrain (called Rex by BMW) to satisfy those wanting to undertake longer journeys.

BMW claims the i3 boasts a “comparatively small turning circle” and keenly describes its handling as being “agile at typical city speeds”, both in keeping with its urban driving brief. By mounting the new car’s liquid-cooled battery - a lithium-ion unit of unspecified weight and capacity - within the central section of the floor, BMW claims the i3’s centre of gravity is lower than all current 1-series models. At the heart of the new plug-in system is a compact electric motor mounted over the rear axle. It draws 62

The unspecified petrol engine will be packaged alongside the electric motor with the rear-axle assembly. It will be used to power a generator to maintain the battery charge. Unlike the i8, the combustion engine does not provide direct drive to the rear wheels, serving only to create electricity to run the electric motor.

A mixture of leather, wood, wool and other renewable raw materials shape the face of the BMW i3 Concept interior. The eucalyptus wood used for the instruments is sourced from sustainably managed European forests. This ensures that delivery distances remain short and keeps the spotlight on sustainability through all the stages of production. The wood is treated using natural materials, giving it a high-class finish and distinctive hue.

Running costs for the i3 will be low, with free car tax and minimal fuel bills, but the high asking price (estimated to be a cool £30,000) means you won’t save money overall. There are also question marks of the future values of electric cars as their batteries could degrade and become less efficient and would be costly to replace.

Sergio Mart铆nez Cifuentes was born in Concepci贸n, Chile, on the 7th of July 1966.

During his first phase he took to descriptive realism, and showed great mastery of forms and an elegant and contained use of colour in his works. Since 2002 he has taken part in international art fairs of which Caracas, Buenos Aires, California, New York and London are worthy of mention. 2003 saw him complete a mural in Kingston College in Concepci贸n. He later moved to Spain and settled in Madrid where he lives today. 麓 From 2004 Sergio Martinez has worked exclusively with the prestigious Sammer Gallery which has a permanent exhibition of his works. In recent years he has exhibited in various European galleries such as the Albemarle Gallery in London and the Vazquez Kunst Gallery in Blaricum, Holland. As the name suggests the architectural design of Nueva Andalucía is based on traditional Andalucian design and is characterised with humongous villas, exclusive gated communities and swathes of luxurious apartment complexes. During the early years of its development Nueva Andalucía was a primary target for golf enthusiast because of the fantastic golf courses that surrounded it. One of the most prominent

was Nueva Andalucía Golf Club now know as Real Club de Golf Las Brisas which was founded in 1968 by José Banús. For its design José Banús chose the American, Robert Trent Jones, he had just finished building the golf course at Sotogrande and was considered as one of the best golf course designers in the world. The Los Naranjos Golf course followed in 1977 and La Quinta Golf Course was launched in 1989. During the property boom of the 90’s the area grew exponentially in all directions, with luxury gated urbanisations and spectacular villas spreading across the valley and hillsides, along with these luxurious properties commercial infrastructure thrived. Nueva Andalucía has become known for its international cuisine which ranges from local tapas, to the ultimate in cordon bleu. It also boasts one of the most popular commercial centres in the area, Centro Plaza comprising quality shops, restaurants,

bars and offices, as well as a supermarket, gymnasium and beauty parlour. In other words, this thriving commercial centre has everything that the consumer might want - from taking care of the weekly shop, to buying unusual and exquisite gifts, including carpets, antiques, luxury toiletries and, not surprisingly perhaps, everything you may need for the golfer in the family. together with her husband Gianni have worked here on the coast for more than 20 years with there Italian Gourmet Restaurant De’Medici. One year ago the outgoing Bridgitte opened the restaurant La Fiorentina Restaurant on the new golden Mile between Marbella and Estepona.

hat Brigitte would feel at home in the gastronomic arena was not foreseen. She worked successfully in the advertising and fashion scene during the mid 70’s in her homeland Germany where she also met her husband Gianni “it was love of first sight” she says which is a testament to their 33 years of marriage. At the time Gianni ran a very successful and well known Restaurant and Brigitte progressed with her career in fashion. The couple spent their holidays in Marbella during the mid 80s and Brigitte and Gianni were fascinated with the untouched Costa del Sol but were also surprised with the lack of gastronomic offers. “Besides Marbella Club and Toni Dalli there was nothing special in Marbella” both of them comment. Gianni was immediately attracted to Marbella and wanted to relocate Brigitte however wanted to stay in Duesseldorf where she was happy and successful in her job and did not want to leave her big circle of friends but Gianni was persistent and finally persuaded Brigitte. In 1990 they opened the Italian GourmetRestaurant De’Medici. It was not really a good time to invest in Marbella but with bags of enthusiasm they managed to establish the restaurant as one of the finest address’s to dine on the Costa del Sol. One year ago Brigitte opened the La Fiorentina the restaurant where mainly fresh Pasta and crispy Pizzas from the stone oven are served. With the food priced at fantastic value the restaurant is frequented for lunch by families with children and business people. In the evening there is a daily Live Music Programme with acts from along the coast. During its short period of trading La Fiorentina has developed into an absolute place to be Restaurant thanks to the engagement of Brigitte with her elegant outfits she guarantees a glamorous appearance and with her radiance and positive elegance manages to enchant every guest.

Chinese Year of the Snake… After a tough 12 months, the Year of the Snake might just present itself as a better year...

here are 12 creatures represented in the Chinese calendar, with a different animal commemorated each year. In 2012, we celebrated the Year of the Dragon the traits associated with this mythical creature certainly lived up to all its expectations. The Dragon is known to live by its own rules, is a risk taker and prefers to be alone. If we look at the Eurozone and all that has passed this year or in reality how little we have accomplished we can find some common ground. The policymakers have tried to forge a way forward, and Greece living by its own rules could now find itself alone with rumours of it exiting the monetary union in the near future. We have witnessed a global trend of countries revising growth forecasts lower, countries going cap in hand to Brussels for a bail out and unemployment remaining stubbornly high. So what does next year the Year of the Snake, have in store for us? The Chinese zodiac describes the snake as analytical, graceful and having a penchant for the finer things in life. While economic fragility and political gridlock are likely to be a thorn in the market’s side for some time, there is some good news on the horizon. Growth from Eastern regions such as Russia, China & India has seen the demand for luxury goods perform handsomely. The
