David Randall,
owner for 15 years of FASTFRAME on Matthews Drive, Hilton Head, paints regularly in his gallery studio, located in the front of the store. David works with almost any painting medium, especially oils and pastels, and takes commission work as well as painting his own colorist, lowcountry images. He has painted 40 foot murals and his unique depictions of lowcountry life have been published on magazine covers. With the major influence of his father who was a commercial, portrait and illustrator artist, and a talented mother who painted landscapes well into her late 90's, David has been artistically-inclined his whole life. His grandfather was a cartoonist, his grandmother was a concert pianist; it is understated to say that art is in David's blood. He still remembers new charcoal portraits, pastel life studies and oil paintings for 'critique' every week growing up. 58

David grew up 30 miles outside New York in New Jersey. He's lived the artist's life from lofts in NYC to living and working for 20 years in Newport, RI. Growing up in the arts wasn't a given for Randall. His father gave him the flying bug and he gained most of his training as a Helicopter pilot in the Army for a commercial pilot's license after his discharge from the Army and a tour in Vietnam. He thought flying would be the, "day job" The custom framing was a way to pay for Art School but turned out to be a life's work for the past 45 plus years.
