Building a Better Community
GRAND OPENING!
All-inclusive Playground
Wednesday, July 29 at 10 a.m.
Lakewood Park
Community Center Grounds Opening
On May 21, we celebrated the grand reopening of the Community Center grounds. This $14 million project renovated the areas around the buildings.
You can now enjoy playgrounds for toddlers and school-aged children; a restroom building near the playgrounds; picnic tables and areas for ping pong, cornhole and chess; new walking paths and seating areas; and updated ponds featuring shade trees, cascading water, boulders and fountains.
Lakewood Park Renovation
The nearly 60-year-old Lakewood Park is undergoing a major transformation to enhance recreation and accessibility. Construction began in April 2026, and the main park area will remain closed during the project. However, the John W. Christian Greenbelt pathway and the basketball, tennis and handball courts will stay open for public use.
Crews are currently building a new all-inclusive playground, which is expected to open July 29, 2026. The playground renovation is supported in part by the County of Santa Clara’s All-Inclusive Playground Grant Program.
The full park project is scheduled for completion in mid-2027. Additional improvements coming to the park include a new dog park, new natural grass sports fields, a renovated skate park and an updated splash pad.
To view other improvements in progress, scan the QR code or visit Sunnyvale.ca.gov, search “Projects.”
