Dip ‘n’ donate!

Members of a Tauranga fitness group will swap workout gear for yellow tutus and take a chilly dip in the sea next week to raise money for the Cancer Society. The group of mostly women, members of Mount Maunganui outdoor fitness group OPT for Health & Fitness, are taking part

in the Daffy Dippers challenge for Daffodil Day. They plan to head to Pilot Bay about 10.30am on Wednesday, August 26, after their regular training session at Moa Park. The OPT for Life team was formed after member Bev Standing’s father died last

December, just three-and-a-half weeks after being diagnosed with cancer. “It was so quick,” said Standing, pictured with the OPT for Life team. “I just thought this will be a really good way to contribute to the cause.” Standing’s family also planted daffodil bulbs at the Mount Maunganui Memory Meadow

in April. To learn more about Daffodil Day and how you can support the Cancer Society, see pages 18-19. As for the Tauranga Daffy Dippers group, they’ve already raised more than $800 towards their $1000 goal. Read their story on page 20. Photo / Kelly O’Hara
