Racing past 150 years! Whatever day you go to Tauranga Races – whether it be tomorrow’s free race day to celebrate 150 years of the club’s existence or on a normal weekday – the exhilaration of the spectacle never dwindles. Each time, there’s a thrill in the air as the horses and jockeys get set, wait for the race to start, then hurtle effortlessly round

the course while people – from visitors enjoying watching all the action through to those who are trainers, horse-owners and more – are kept on their toes until the winner crosses the finish-line. This thrill has been taking place in Tauranga for 150 years this year – since the city’s first-ever race meeting was held on the Government Paddock course on January 1, 1873.

To celebrate, Racing Tauranga is hosting a free-entry day of racing and fun activities for young and old to thank the community for their support, which it says has kept the sport alive and well in Tauranga.
