The life changer During the seven days Tom Scott was in a coma in Rotorua Hospital, his family was twice told to expect him to die from his injuries. “But as I have found out many times, you can’t kill a weed,” says Tom. He was injured
after the fire truck he was riding in, to a callout near Taupo, flipped and kept flipping, on a corner. It left him a paraplegic. “I’ve had plenty of luck, most of it bad,” he says with a grin. But this weed has just kept growing stronger,
taller and certainly faster. And this week he was showing off his new wheels – a specially adapted Segway with big fat feet that enables Tom to go anywhere at about 20 km/h. Read the full story on page 4-5. Photo: John Borren.
