Life of a bottle p˜
It was always going to happen. Werner Gamma’s dad was a barber, opened his shop in Wil, eastern Switzerland, in 1943. The young Werner had aspirations to be a chef, his father had aspirations for Werner to be a barber. He became a barber, started his apprenticeship in 1966 – just as Simon and Garfunkel’s
‘Sounds of Silence’ was reaching number one. Werner’s craft took him around the world before plonking him at the end of The Strand, where he’s become an institution. It’s a barber shop but a worksite. Clients negotiate indemnity forms and steel supports while earthquake strengthening is done.

Tauranga show p˛°
But barbershop blather, barbs and the bollocks continues unabated. But the barbershop theatresports are over. Werner Gamma, barber, wit, raconteur, would-be-chef and friend to many, has laid down his scissors. The show is over. And it’s sad. The life and times of a character barber is on page 12-13.
