Twin task for world’s best Sweat, sand and surf – the Lion Foundation New Zealand Surf League is taking to Mount Maunganui Main Beach this weekend. For the first time, the under-14 and under-16 divisions have been added to the mix, kicking off the competition on Thursday and Friday, February 9-10. The big guns from the under-19 and open divisions join in on the action on Saturday and Sunday. Amongst the athletes, under-19 reigning champs, twins Kirby and Chad Wheeler (pictured), are gearing up to compete in the open division for the first time. The 19 year olds are going up against men much older than them, including world champions. It is a big step, but both are looking forward to the challenge. Read about the Wheeler twins on page 10.
