TePukeGymsportandParkourclubon StationRdhaslongheldhopeofcreatinga newhome,withasiteinCentennialParkon itsradar,butprogresstodatehasbeenslow.
Now,withotherorganisationsonboard,and theconceptanddesignofa$5millionBayof PlentyMovementHQatthepark,atwo-year planhasbeenformulatedtogetthebuilding offtheground.
Thatplanwilllaunchwith5fortheFuture eventonNovember1.
Thelauncheventpromisesfunforthe wholefamily,featuringlivedemonstrationsof gymnastics,dance,parkourandmore.There willbe“haveago”sessionsonairtracks,foam pits,trampolinesandparkourandgymnastics equipment,alongsidefoodtrucks,stalls, communityactivitiesandfamilychallenges.
TheBayofPlentyMovementHQisa partnershipbetweenTePukeGymsport, TePukeDanceStudios,TheGraemeDingle FoundationandTePukeJuniorFootballClub, whowillallberepresentedattheevent.
Theeventwillalsobeanopportunityto donate$5onthedaytojointheFounder DonorListandgointhemajorprizedraw.
TheBayofPlentyMovementHQwillbe amulti-purposesport,recreation,fitnessand wellnesshub.
“TheBayofPlentyMovementHQismore thanjustabuilding,it’sacommunityvision broughttolifethroughcollaboration,”said
TePukeGymsportgeneralmanagerErin McKennaonbehalfoftheorganisingteam.
Shestressedthattheprojectwasa collaboration.
“Wedon’twantpeopletothinkit’sjustfor thegymclub.
“We’recreatingaspacewherethewhole whānaucanmovetogether,childrenenjoying gymnastics,parkourordancewhileparents cantakepartinfitnessorwellnesssessions.
“Thatisourvision.Peoplearesoshort ontime,andnotallparentswanttosit andwatchsotherewillbeachancetodo somethingfortheirownhealthatthe sametime.”
McKennaanticipatedadultfitnessclasses, KeeponyourFeetclassesandTaiChi.
Shesaidsuitablebuildingsforsuchactivities wereininshortsupplyinTePuke.
“WhenIstartedtalkingtopeople,that’s whatalotofpeoplesaid–inthatareathere’s nothingthat’spurposebuilt,it’sallroomsor hallssohavingsomethinglikethisforthemto usewillbereallygood.”
Whensearchingforanewhome,the gymsportclubalsolookedatthepossibilityof usingotherexistingspaces.
“Ourissueisheight,soweneedtobein anindustrialarea.Where[theproposedsite] iszonedindustrialandnexttoanindustrial areasowecango9mhigh–wecouldn’tgo thathighanywhereelseandwedon’twant trampolinistshittingtheroof.”
TePukeJuniorfootballclubhaspitchesat thepark,butnootherfacilitiesforexample toiletsorsomewheretostoregearwhichthe newbuildingwouldprovide.
“Theycouldusethecommunityroomasa sortofclubroom.”
TheGraemeDingleFoundationiskeen tohaveofficespaceinthenewbuilding.
“Theyarealsolookingathavingahangoutspaceforkidsandalsoamusicroom andanartroom–spacewherekidscan comeanddoartandaspacewherekids cancomeandmakemusic.”
Thefacilityisalsolikelytohavea weightsroomthatcouldbeusedbythe foundation.
McKennasaidthenewbuildingwould justaddtothesportsfacilitiesinthe immediatearea.

PrincipalHannahMortimoresaideveryonewasblownaway bythenumberofpeoplewhowenttotheschoolfortheevent.
“Itwasjampacked,ourplaygroundandfieldwerefullof peoplethewholeday.Thereweregenerationsoffamiliesall enjoyingthedaytogetheritwasreallyheart-warmingtosee andexactlywhatwewantedtoachieve.”
Generally,calfandlambdaysareheldonschooldays,and theschoolhasn’theldafairfor“aweewhile”.
Preparing,leadingandcallingtheyounganimalstookupthe firstpartofthedaywiththefairstartingaround11am.
“Wehadareallygoodturnoutforthefirstpartoftheday andalotofextrapeoplefromthecommunitycametoseeit.”
Mortimoresaidthedaywasatraditionalfamilydayoutwith goodfeelsandabuzzingvibe.
“Itwasreallypopular,I’veneverseensomanypeopleatthe school.”
Attractionsincludedatombola,ridesinavintageRolls Royce,facepainting,ponyrides,games,music,traditional stallsandfoodoptions.
“ItwasincredibletoseehowmanypeoplefromthewiderTe Pukecommunitymadetheefforttocometous.
“Wearealittlecountryschool.Ourmottois‘smallbut exceptional’andthatdefinitelyshoneonSaturday.Itwas lovelyforeveryonetoseewhatwehave.”
Mortimoresaidastronggroupofparenthelperscombined withstafftomakethedayasuccess.
ShehasbeenprincipalsinceMarchandsaidshefeltinsome waysthefairwastheculminationoftheschoolcommunity comingtogether,gettingtoknowherandbondingoverthe lastfewmonths.
“Saturdayshowedwhatacommunitycandowhenyouall pulltogether,anditmademefeelreallyproudtobepartof thiscommunity.”
Moneyraisedatthefairwillgotowardsanewplayground.

The17-year-oldleaderisexcitedto bereturningtohercommunitypool thatopenedforthe2025/2026summer seasonlastMonday.
“It’smorethanjustapool;it’sdefinitely ahome.It’sarealwhānauorientated pool,too,”Ngawhikasaid.
Withthenewseasonalsocomesnew facilitymanagementandincreased weekdayhourstoallowmembersofthe communitytoenjoythepoolforlonger astemperatureswarmup.
BayVenuesisnowmanagingthepool onbehalfofWesternBayofPlenty DistrictCouncilandthecommunityfeel ofthefacilityremainsakeyfocus.

Tocelebratetheopeningofthenew season,apoolpartywillbeheldatTe PukeMemorialPooltomorrow.
TheTePukecommunityisencouraged tocomealongtotheevent,whichwill runfrom11am-2pmandwillfeaturepool inflatables,amanucompetitionandafree sausagesizzle.
TePukeSwimmingClubclasseshave startedandothercommunityactivities andprogrammesarebeingplanned,
includingaquaexercisesessionsanda rangeofBaySwimclassesthatwillbe launchingearlynextyear.
Whenmembersofthecommunity popintothepoolthisseason,they’llbe greetedbyalifeguardteamwithplentyof localfamiliarfaces.
Forthepasttwoseasons,Ngawhika hasbeenaswimcoachatTePuke MemorialPool.
“Yougettoknowtheregulars,youlearn somuchaboutthem.”
Shesaidshe’sexcitedtobetakingon anewrolethisseason.Asalifeguard andshiftleader,she’shopingtobeable
tointeractwithmorepeopleinthe community.
“It’sarealneatcommunity.”

Thepoolwillbeopentothepubliceach weekdaymorningfrom6amto8.30am andthenwillreopenintheafternoon between3.30pm-6.30pm.
Longerweekdayopeninghourswill allowlocalstopopdowntothepoolafter schoolorworkforeveningswims.Asmall swimshopofferingswimaccessorieswill alsobeavailableforcustomers.

AnothernewattractionthisyearwillbeTheTitans TaurangaArmouredCombatwhocompeteinfull contact,fully-armouredmedievalcombatsport.
PredatorFreeBayofPlentywillbebringingadisplay featuringnocturnalbirdsandanimalsandmanyofthe towncentrebusinesseswillbedecoratedandgiving awaylollies.
