Wings of endurance Most people who meet Jeremiah McDonald on the streets of Katikati would not know he’s become a global wing foiling star. The 24-year-old set two wing foiling endurance records in Norway in July, after a whirlwind five

years of getting into the sport. In a 24-hour attempt off the coast of Nordstranda on July 17, McDonald covered 501.7km within 12 hours before continuing through the night to complete 804.8km in 23 hours and 37

minutes, becoming the first person to surpass 800km under wind power. But he’s not finished there. The Katikati resident, who travels back and forth between Europe and home, training and competing professionally

has a new goal in sight. Find out what – and learn more about his incredible journey into the sport and his 24 hours at sea amid physically and psychologically challenging conditions, on pages 6-7. Photo / Chantelle Middleton
