The advertising in The Weekend Sun was very very good and I am extremely pleased with all the calls I have had since placing the ads. I will continue to advertise with such a great response.

The Classified Section works like a directory. If you have a regular appearance in the Classified Section, people know where to look for your services when they need them. The Weekend Sun has a very popular Classified Section that is constantly building, and becoming a vital advertising tool. Another benefit to advertising in the Classifieds, is that we can always find something that will cater to suit your advertising needs and budget.

We can also fit Classified Advertisements in right up until the very last minute of going to print, which means if you have something urgent, you can usually count on the Classified Section to get it into the paper. Colour advertising is also very affordable in the Classified Section. It costs just $25 +gst extra to add colour to your advert – a fantastic investment to increase the profile of your advert.

full-time ministry. As a secular performer, she was nominated for 10 national awards including 2 prestigous “Mo” awards and 8 ACE Awards (nominated alongside the Wiggles and Hi-5 as Australia’s best children’s performer). Natalie started off with “Sally Squad” as her show name in 2004 which was the name of her first DVD’s and TV mini-show on The Australian Christian Channel and Shine TV (NZ). Her ministry has grown so much she now travels and tours throughout the world in churches such as

Hillsong, Planetshakers, Lakewood Church, Houston (Ps Joel Osteen), The Potter’s House, Denver (Ps Chris Hill) and The Church Las Vegas (Ps Benny Perez). In 2013 she’ll be doing her first South Africa and UK tour. Natalie’s show is known for reaching all ages and is hilarious with big belly laughs but also has a great solid message in it. Natalie Miller and the Sally Squad will be performing at Lifezone Church on Sunday September 16th at 10.00am. So bring the whole family along to 19

Amber Crescent for a FREE fun morning of laughter and Christian learning.

Holy Trintiy’s Alpha course The Alpha course will commence on September 25 at Holy Trinity Church at 7pm.

The course is a 10-week look at Christianity. It is the fun format and relaxed style that makes this all so different. No-one lectures you at Alpha and you can ask questions in a non-threatening and warm environment. The format of the course is a meal, followed by a DVD presentation and then an informal and relaxed discussion time over coffee. There is no cost but you can make a small donation to cover the meal cost if you wish. Why don’t you come along to the Alpha course to investigate truth. Is God truth? In fact, what is truth? This question was posed by

Pontius Pilate at Jesus Christ’s trial over 2000 years ago and still today many people are asking the same question. There is so much confusion today. “What or who can I trust anymore?” At Alpha we tackle such hard questions and you are welcome to come along with your genuine questions on Christianity and life in general. For instance, “Why is there so much evil around us?” Where do moral ethics come from and why should it matter?” “Aren’t we masters of our own fate?” If you are interested in these kinds of questions or you have an

uneasy feeling that you are not quite sure why you are actually here on this earth… come along. You need to come with an open mind and to be challenged when confronted with questions such as “Does God exist?” The Alpha course starting next week is your opportunity to ask the questions that are really important to you. You may have been raised in a church environment or may have never been to church. You may have deep spiritual beliefs or be atheistic or agnostic. Whatever you believe, most people have this deep sense that there is more to life than what they are experiencing.

Whether to protest or pray? As the Church, God’s called out company, as those who have received delegated authority from Christ, what should our response be to those things which are raised up in opposition to God and to His Word? Protest or prayer? I suggest that the Church has been quick to protest and slow to pray.

Paul says in Ephesians 6:12 that “we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.” He says in 2 Corinthians 10:4 that “the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but have divine power to destroy strongholds.” Yes, the Church must have a voice and there is a place for protest but the battle for truth and holiness is spiritual and will therefore be won in the spiritual realm. Anyone can protest but only the Church has spiritual authority and only the Church can stand in prayer and with the Word of God, which is the Sword of the Spirit. On the basis of Scripture, God’s people would be more effective in getting together to pray and to intercede than we will ever be in signing petitions and joining protests, as important as it is to have a voice. By Peter Whitcombe, Jesus First Church

The question of marriage The issue of marriage has been in the news a lot lately. It is something that touches us all in some form. Some of us were brought up by parents who were married to each other for all their lives. Some of us were brought up by parents in a merged family situation. Others of us were brought up or are growing up in a single parent situation. Others still are growing up in a situation where their mother and father have made no formal commitment to each other. When one wonders about how something should work, how it should function properly, it is always a good idea to check out the origins, the original design and intentions of that thing. Such is surely the case when considering the question of marriage. Where did marriage come from? When was it started? Well, actually, it is a God thing. Right back at the beginning of time in the Garden of Eden God created the world, the animals, and then the pinnacle of all His creation – mankind. The first man, Adam, had named all the animals, and yet he was still alone in his need for someone to relate with on his level. So God took some of him, and created Eve. There wasn’t anything in the created universe that he can connect with in a relational fashion. And then God doesn’t just bring him another man, but wonder of wonders, the perfect complement; woman! That was the first marriage, and that set the tone for how it should be ever since. One man, married to one woman. Our laws over the centuries started out recognising morals and values set at the beginning of time. We’ve

seen that when a society veers away from those values and principles, it introduces multiple more troubles and woes. When a nation turns its back, for example, on the tried and proven reference points in law gained from the 10 commandments, we see an increase in turmoil and strife and the painful relational results we’re seeing today. It’s a sad day for New Zealand if we start off in a direction that wasn’t the original intention for the wonder, the blessedness, and the security of marriage.
