Father’s Day gifts for the dad who’s impossible to shop for

This Fathers Day show the paternal figures in your life some love and get them gifts that are thoughtful and useful.

A HD projector

Give that movie-, sports-, or binge-worthy TV-loving dad his very own home theater setup with this high-def projector that comes with its very own 100-inch hanging screen.

MasterClass Membership

If a gift card isn’t going to cut it, a master class subscription for cooking, writing, or maybe even politics is a last-minute option that’s still a unique gift in our book.

A fitness tracker

A smart ring or watch keeps track of virtually every health metric: heart rate, sleep quality, step count, activity level, blood oxygen, and more. If Dad’s serious about his health—or you want him to be—this is the perfect gadget to give.

A staycation

Fathers often sacrifice much of their own time and happiness to make sure their children have everything they need. If you want to thank your dad and show him appreciation for everything he’s done, give him a fabulous holiday where he’ll be treat-

ed like the king he is. Plan a mini-vacation or a getaway weekend.

A massager

Your time

Between long days at the office and squeezing in workouts, dads can have a lot on their plates. Add in the stress of daily life, discomforts of traveling to work in public transport or driving hours to reach his workplace, it’s not surprising that back and neck massagers are often among the best-selling gifts for Father’s Day each year.

This Father’s Day, instead of the fancy gifts, how can we honor those men in our lives who have given us so much? The answer is by giving them our ‘Time.’

One of the best gifts could be giving him experiences, not things. Giving the gift of your presence is the best way to wish dad a “Happy Father’s Day.”

Thanks, Dad

Conveying gratitude, respect and love when saying the simple words

“Thank You dad” to your father goes a long way. The sacrifices they make, and the worry fathers harbor for your sake should never be allowed to go unnoticed.

Today is a great day to say THANK You DAD!

Thank not just your father but also, every man that has played an important role in shaping your life. Expresses your innermost feelings of appreciation for all the guidance, patience, love and care you’ve received in plenty from these loving men. Doing little things that would make them happy would be a beautiful way to say how fortunate and blessed we are to have him in our otherwise incomplete lives.

It is also a great day to say soRRY DAD.

One of the best times to say ‘I’m sorry Dad’ would be now. The splendid opportunity to apologize for our actions and behavior that may have made your dad upset would definitely be on Father’s Day. The times when we as children take all the love and affection of our parents for granted and hurt them with insensitivity, the affection on their part still remains unfaded. Now that we realize how significant they are in our lives, an apology should work as a balm to heal the pain they felt within their souls. In turn we are forgiven and blessed.

One should not miss the opportunity of thanking all the fatherly figures to express gratitude shouldn’t be missed out on as they have been piv- otal in bringing up or nur- turing children. Special tribute should be given to these wonderful hu- man beings on the Day of the Fathers to

thank them and express love and appreciation for being so wonderful and exemplary in taking care of children.

We asked a few people about their fathers, here’s what they had to say:

Kal Dosanjh:

what is the most important lesson you learned from your dad? The most important lesson I learned from my dad was never to take life for granted. Every second counts.

what did you have as a child that kids today don’t have? What I had as a child that kids today don’t have is the simplicity of life without gadgets and electronics.

which family member has been your greatest coach in life?

The family member that has been my greatest coach in life has been my wife. She has always been my biggest fan, and constantly encourages me to achieve my highest potential.

what is your best memory with your children/ father?

The best memory with my father was when he would pick me up and throw me into the air and then catch me over and

over again when I was little. The best memory with my children was when they were born.

Are there things you wish you had done differently as a father?

As a father, I wish I had a better understanding of parenting when they were growing up. It’s important to balance being stern and a friend.

what is the secret to raising good kids?

The secret to raising good kids is to give them unconditional love, support, and encouragement.

what do you enjoy most about being a dad?

What I enjoy most about being a dad is that I get to enjoy every second I get with my children and see them grow into responsible adults.

8 www.entertainmentmagazine.ca JUNE 2023 Father’s Day
Sometimes it is hard to find a way to tell your father how much he has impacted your life and how important he is.

Amandeep Duggal:

what is the most important lesson you learned from your dad?

The most important lesson I learned from my dad is the value of hard work and perseverance. He always taught me that success doesn’t come overnight, and it requires dedication, resilience, and a strong work ethic. Seeing him work tirelessly for over 50 years inspired me to adopt the same mindset and strive for excellence in everything I do.

what did you have as a child that kids today don’t have?

As a child, one thing I had that kids today might not have as much of is a sense of independ ence and resourcefulness. Back then, we didn’t have access to technology and instant information like today. So, we had to rely on our creativity and problem-solving skills to entertain ourselves and find solutions to everyday challenges. It taught me to be adaptable and think outside the box.

which family member has been your greatest coach in life? How have they coached you?

My father has been my greatest coach in life. He has been there for me every step of the way, providing guidance, support, and invaluable business advice. He taught me the ropes of entrepreneurship, shared his experiences and wisdom, and encouraged me to take calculated risks. His coaching extended beyond business and influenced my overall character and values, shaping me into the person I am today.

what is your best memory with your children/ father?

One of the best memories I have with both my children and my father is when we went on a family vacation together. It was a rare opportunity for three generations to spend quality time and bond. We laughed, shared stories, and created lasting memories that I will cherish forever. It was a reminder of the importance of family and the joy of creating experiences together.

Are there things you wish you had done differently as a father?

As a father, there are always things we wish we had done differently. Looking back to 2-3 years, I realize that I could have spent more time with my children during their formative years. Balancing the demands of running a business and being present for my family is challenging at times. However, I’ve learned from

time and create a better worklife balance.

what is the secret to raising good kids?

The secret to raising good kids, in my opinion, lies in creating a loving and supportive environment. It’s important to lead by example, instill strong values, and provide guidance while allowing them to develop their independence. Communication and active listening are vital in understand-

ing their needs, dreams, and challenges. Encouraging their passions, teaching them resilience, and promoting a growth mindset are also key elements in raising well-rounded individuals.

hat did you enjoy most about being a Dad?

What I enjoy most about being a dad is witnessing my children grow and thrive. Seeing them develop their unique personalities, and achieve their little goals bring me immense joy and pride. Celebrating their little successes, offering guidance during their failures, and being their biggest cheerleader gives me a sense of purpose and fulfilment. The unconditional love and bond we share as a family are the greatest rewards of being a father.

what is the most important lesson you learned from your dad?

The most important lesson I have learned from my father is to never cheat anyone. Always follow the rules made by your government and always strive to be better.

what is your best memory with your children/ father?

When I saw my baby for the first time, I was the happiest. I saw how it totally changed my entire family dynamics. My father has been really happy since he became a grandfather and looking at his happiness makes me the happiest too.

what is the secret to raising good kids?

Beside sending them to school and teaching them the regular school curriculum, one must in still empathy and truthfulness in their children. One must also teach them the power of belief, the power of god, the power of good karma.

Everyone has accomplishments in their life, and behind those accomplishments is someone who has had an impact on their life. My dad is my greatest influence for several reasons. He has always supported me, and the decisions I make. He has also showed me that success comes from hard work, he inspires me and taught me to always believe in myself.

5 ways to style a corset for any occasion

corsets have been around for centuries, and they have evolved from being an undergarment worn primarily by women to a versatile piece of clothing that can be styled in many different ways.

whether you’re looking to add a touch of glamour to your night out, create a unique festival outfit, or make a statement at a formal event, a corset can be a great addition to your wardrobe.

Here are five ways to style a corset for various occasions, from a casual weekend outing to a glam night out:

Casual weekend outing: For a laid-back weekend look, pair a corset with high-waisted jeans or a skirt. This will create a flattering silhouette while still maintaining a casual vibe. To add some edge to your outfit, throw on a denim or leather jacket and some ankle boots.

formal Event: A corset can be an elegant and sophisticated option for a formal event. Pair it with a flowing maxi skirt or a pair of tailored trousers, and add some statement jewelry and a pair of heels to complete the look. Choose a corset in a luxurious fabric like satin or velvet for a more elevated feel.

office wear: Although a corset may not be the first thing that comes to mind when thinking of office wear, it can work if styled appropriately. Pair it with a blazer, tailored pants or a pencil skirt, and some pumps for a sophisticated and professional look. Make sure to choose a more conservative corset style, in a solid color or a subtle pattern, to keep the outfit office-appropriate.

festival outfit: A corset can add a unique touch to a festival outfit. Pair it with a fringed skirt or shorts, and some cowboy boots for a fun and boho look. Don’t forget to add a flower crown or a statement hat to complete the festival vibe.

Glam Night out: For a night out on the town, a corset can add some sex appeal to your outfit. Pair it with a mini skirt or a pair of leather pants, and add some strappy heels and statement jewelry for a glamorous look. Choose a corset with intricate detailing or lace-up accents for added drama.

Remember, when wearing a corset, it’s important to choose one that fits well and is comfortable to wear. Don’t forget to layer and accessorize to create a complete and stylish outfit.

Take a break from nail polish: While it’s fun to wear nail polish, it’s important to give your nails a break from time to time. Constantly wearing nail polish can weaken your nails and make them more prone to breakage. Give your nails a chance to breathe for a few days after regular intervals

By following these tips, you can keep your nails looking and feeling healthy all summer long. Remember to stay hydrated, protect your nails from the sun and chemicals, and choose safe nail products. With a little bit of care and attention, you can have strong and beautiful nails all year round.

As the summer season approaches, it’s important to take extra care of your nails, which can get dry, brittle and prone to breakage due to heat and humidity.

Here is our advice on how to take care of nails in summer:

Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate: Staying hydrated is key to keeping your nails healthy and strong. Drink plenty of water and include hydrating foods in your diet, such as cucumbers, watermelon, and strawberries. You can also apply a moisturizing hand cream or nail oil to your nails and cuticles to keep them hydrated.

wear gloves: When doing household chores like washing dishes or gardening, wear gloves to protect your nails from harsh chemicals and dirt. This will also help to prevent your nails from getting brittle and breaking.

Avoid overexposure to the sun: While it’s important to get some sun exposure to maintain healthy levels of vitamin D, overexposure can be harmful to your nails. Too much sun can cause your nails to dry out, become discolored, or even crack. Use a broad-spectrum sunscreen on your hands and nails whenever you’re outside for extended periods of time.

Don’t forget to exfoliate: Just like your skin, your nails and cuticles can benefit from exfoliation. Use a gentle nail brush or an exfoliating scrub to remove dead skin cells and stimulate blood flow to your nails. This will also help to prevent ingrown nails and keep your cuticles looking healthy.

Keep your nails short: Long nails may look glamorous, but they can be more prone to breakage and damage in the summer months. Keep your nails short and wellgroomed to prevent them from snagging or breaking. This will also make it easier to maintain good nail hygiene.

Five reasons why men should find their signature fragrances right now

The sense of smell is more than merely understanding complex fragrances. It is related to uplifting our mood and striking back some memories that we cherished ages ago. Be it the aftershave that our father wore or the perfume that our mother smothered us with on certain occasions; a distinctive fragrance goes a long way to be recognized even after ages.

Taking a cue from the same, the fragrance that we wear has a long-lasting impact on the minds of those who we engage with for a long time. It does the talking about our personality even before we talk.

Here are five reasons why men should find their signature fragrances right away:

To smell ideal: All perfumes are certainly good-smelling but just like one size fits all approach doesn’t work practically, not all perfumes are made for the unique personality that an individual carries. There needs to be a perfume that smells better than them all on offer for the masses. One must go for a handpicked, select fragrance that is unusual to be picked by many, which of course, is in line with their unique personality traits. To be smelling consistent throughout the day, the collection must include the stronger concentration - Eau De Parfum. After the shower, moisturize yourself well and wear an Eau De Parfum with two or three sprays to keep the fragrance not too light or too strong.

uplifts your mood: A perfume that goes very well with your personality will certainly help you keep your mood uplifted all the time. Out of the five senses, smell is the most powerful one. Given its complex nature, it is bound to surface underlying emotions and make you feel better. You might be using a particular fragrance for a particular occasion. Like, you might have used your signature perfume on your wedding day or any other occasion, and fragrances can trigger your best memories which will ultimately make you feel better and uplift your mood.

Boosts self confidence: Just like how your signature perfume brings a sense of optimism within you by uplifting your mood, the change can be witnessed in your demeanor from the outside too. You feel more confident in your appearance and your element. To smell good is to feel good. While being noticed and complimented by others, you get this boost of self-confidence, the credit of which goes to the signature fragrance that you wear.

Turns heads towards you: How you accessorize has a certain impact on the people at the place where you are arriving. The feeling of being arrived and seeing most of everyone’s head turning towards you is cherished by everyone. Be it for your car or the outfit that you wear, the feeling is unique in its way. Likewise, your signature fragrance can turn heads to relish the unique smell and how it suits you. It makes you appear more attractive. It leaves a long-lasting impression wherein people even recognize you over time for smelling uniquely attractive.

statement of class: Signature perfumes are choic-

est like your select apparel, watches, and wine collection and hence are a statement of a class of its own. It defines how you are particular about presenting yourself in a certain fashion and engaging in only the best and rare when it comes to your collection of assets. A hint of your signature fragrance can speak volumes about your class and demeanor as compared to others.

Though selecting the signature perfume requires a diligent understanding of how you like to present yourself that sets you apart from the crowd, it is not necessary that they must be expensive to be unique.

What is being eco-friendly and how to become one?

living an eco-friendly lifestyle is essential for preserving the environment, promoting sustainability, reducing our carbon footprint, and thus protecting our planet for future generations. It involves making conscious choices to minimize our impact on the environment, reduction of waste and pollution, and conservation of natural resources.

Following are some eco-friendly and sustainable lifestyle habits that one can adopt to make a positive impact.

Reduce, reuse, and recycle

The first step towards an eco-friendly sustainable lifestyle is to reduce, reuse, and recycle. Reduce refers to reducing the amount of waste we produce by consuming fewer resources, such as energy, water, and raw materials. This can be achieved through small lifestyle changes, such as turning off lights when they’re not in use, reducing water usage, or using public transportation, by choosing products with minimal packaging and avoiding single-use products, especially plastics. Reuse refers to using reusable items, such as cloth shopping bags, water bottles, coffee or tea cups, etc. Recycling is also essential as it reduces the amount of waste that ends up in landfills and reduces the demand for new materials.

water Conservation

Reducing water consumption is essential to conserve water resources and reduce water pollution. One can reduce water consumption by fixing leaks, taking shorter showers, using low-flow shower heads and faucets, and avoiding water wastage. For instance, when brushing your teeth or shaving, turn off the tap to conserve water, and avoid leaving the tap running when washing dishes. Rainwater harvesting should be practiced both at homes and workplaces.

Renewable Energy

The use of renewable energy, such as solar or wind power, is an effective way to reduce one’s carbon footprint and dependence on fossil fuels. Besides one can save on otherwise huge electricity bills. If one does not have the option of installing solar panels, consider purchasing renewable energy from a renewable energy provider.

Energy Conservation

Choose an appliance that specifically fits your needs. A larger appliance may use more energy than required. Make sure you use your appliances efficiently. For example, only run your dishwasher or washing machine when you have a full load. Use the appropriate settings, such as energy-saving or eco-mode, on your appliances when possible. Use LED or smart lighting products, which are more energy-efficient.

use of public transportation, walking or cycling

Public transportation such as metro, buses, trains, and trams etc, can be an efficient way to get around. Check your local public transportation schedules and routes to see if it’s a feasible option for you. If you live close to your workplace or other destinations, consider walking or cycling instead of driving. This can not only save you money but also provide health benefits. Carpooling should be encouraged as it reduces the number of cars on the road, reducing traffic congestion and gas emissions.

Buy local and organic food

Farmer’s markets are a great way to buy fresh, locally-grown produce. Join a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program which is a great way to support local farmers.

Buying organic food is an effective way to reduce your exposure to pesticides and other harmful chemicals. Organic farming practices are also more sustainable, as they reduce the use of fertilizers and pesticides, conserve water resources, and promote biodiversity.

Reduce meat consumption

Start by reducing your meat consumption gradually. For example, try going meatless for one day a week, and gradually increase from there. Experiment with plant-based proteins such as tofu, lentils, beans, and chickpeas. Reducing meat consumption can reduce greenhouse gas emissions and improve overall health.

Grow your own food

Growing your own food is an effective way to reduce your carbon footprint and promote sustainable living. Home-grown food is free from pesticides and other harmful chemicals and requires less energy to transport than store-bought food. You can grow your own food in a backyard garden, terrace, on a balcony, or in a community garden.

The concept of hydroponic farming can be effectively used for this purpose.

use environmentally-friendly cleaning products

Look for cleaning products that have been certified by reputable organizations, such as the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) or the Green Seal. Choose cleaning products that are non-toxic and free of chemicals like bleach, ammonia, and phosphates. Eco-friendly cleaning products are made from natural ingredients and are non toxic. You can make your own eco-friendly cleaning products using natural ingredients such as vinegar, baking soda, and lemon juice.

Plant trees and support reforestation efforts

Look for local tree-planting events in your area and participate. Consider donating to reforestation projects that plant trees in areas that have been affected by deforestation or other land-use changes. These projects are often run by environmental organizations and can have a significant impact on restoring ecosystems.

Deforestation accounts for 10 per cent of global greenhouse gas emissions.

use Reusable Menstrual Products

Conventional menstrual products, such as pads and tampons, contribute to landfill waste and are made from synthetic materials that can be harmful to the environment. Reusable menstrual products, such as menstrual cups and cloth pads, are a more eco-friendly alternative.

Educate others

Lead by example by adopting sustainable habits and practices in your own life and inspiring others. Use social media, blog posts, or other forms of communication to share relevant information. By taking these steps and making eco-friendly choices, we can reduce our impact on the environment leading to a sustainable future.

Here’s why you need to stop drinking tea first thing in the morning

Tea is not only a tasty beverage to drink with friends, to welcome guests with, or to have by our sides when we want to be alone with our thoughts, but it also has many health benefits, such as the catechins and antioxidants in black tea, which can enhance immunity and metabolism.

Drinking bed tea first thing in the morning is a typical practice for a lot of people. While tea can be a delicious and comforting beverage, it does contain caffeine, which is a stimulant that can have an impact on the body. Drinking tea or any other caffeinated beverage first thing in the morning on an empty stomach can lead to increased acidity and digestive discomfort. This is because caffeine can stimulate the production of stomach acid, which can cause irritation and inflammation.

Additionally, drinking tea in the morning can interfere with the body’s natural cortisol production. According to Dietician Vidhi Chawla, “Cortisol is a hormone that helps regulate the sleep-wake cycle and provides energy throughout the day. When you consume caffeine in the morning, it can interfere with the body’s ability to produce cortisol, which can lead to feelings of fatigue and sluggishness later in the day.

Vidhi Chawla, the founder of fisico Diet Clinic, highlights several potential negative effects of drinking tea first thing in the morning: stomach irritation: Drinking tea on an empty stomach can cause irritation in the stomach lining, leading to discomfort, bloating, and nausea.

Dehydration: Tea is a diuretic, which means it increases urine output and can cause dehydration, especially in the morning when your body is already dehydrated from not having any water for several hours.

Disrupts nutrient absorption: Tea contains tannins, which can bind to minerals such as iron and calcium, making them less available for absorption by the body.

Tooth decay: Tea contains natural acids that can erode tooth enamel, especially when consumed in large amounts or over a long period.

The optimum time to consume tea, according to celebrity nutritionist Pooja Makhija, is in the middle of the morning after breakfast because this is when our metabolic process begins to work smoothly.

Makhija also suggests, “Boost your morning with wholesome alternatives. The morning should be spent consuming alkaline beverages like buttermilk or lukewarm water with a pinch of Himalayan pink salt.

To reset your system after a long night of sleep, you can even start your day with lime or methi water. Aloe vera juice, simple coconut water, raw honey, and a few drops of apple cider vinegar or coconut vinegar in water are more healthy alternatives. These beverages are far healthier and superior to a hot cup of tea first thing in the morning.”

5 habits that hamper your sleep

Numerous things we do have an adverse effect on how well we sleep, which unwittingly has an effect on our health. We can dramatically improve our quality of life by altering our sleeping habits. Here are five behaviors that make it difficult to fall asleep: use of screens before bed: We all enjoy using our phones, laptops, and computers in the hours before night, but have you ever questioned why doing so is bad for your health? This

is so that the screen’s light won’t interfere with our bodies’ normal sleep cycle. This explains why so many individuals struggle to fall asleep after using their laptops or watching television right before bed. So, in order to get a good night’s sleep, it is advised that you restrict screen time before bed. In fact, relaxing activities that can aid in getting ready for bed include reading a book or keeping a journal.

working out just before going to bed: Exercise is necessary, but it’s not a good idea

to work out hard right before bed. Over time, it lowers the quantity and quality of sleep as well as depletes the body’s energy stores. Try stretching or yoga before night instead of working out because these activities are less demanding on your energies and are less rigorous.

Mattress type: It’s critical to avoid placing strain on our muscles and joints at the end of the day. It can be difficult to sleep on a mattress or pillow made of foam. Many people roll and toss in their sleep as a result of mattress pain. Avoiding a memory foam or standard mattress in favor of a SmartGRID Mattress may be a wise decision if you experience sleep interruptions or are perpetually exhausted. The SmartGRID Mattress, in contrast to other mattresses, keeps our body cool while we sleep, preventing night sweats, and it also conforms to our body shape, minimizing back pain.

High caffeine consumption around dinner and bedtime: While many of us might not be aware of it, coffee use may be keeping us from falling asleep. While it does

provide us with the stamina to stay awake, it also causes our minds to race and could make us uneasy. Because of this, consuming coffee right before bed or right after dinner is like working against our will, making it harder to fall asleep.

Ambience: The impact of light and noise on sleep: Ambience is an important factor in a good night’s sleep. People rightly associate bright light as the key hindrance to sleep, but fail to understand that noise is also a major concern. It is extremely difficult to fall asleep when someone is talking loudly in the next room or outside our window. As a result, creating a quiet and supportive bedroom is an important aspect of sleep hygiene.

We must not underestimate the importance of adequate sleep for maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Like in every other situation, a little effort goes a long way and will have a significant impact on one’s quality of sleep.

‘Citadel’: Techno thriller that promises more than it delivers!

series: Citadel. Streaming on Amazon Prime.

Cast: Richard Madden, Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Stanley Tucci.

Created by: Josh Appelbaum, Bryan Oh and David Weil.

Cinematographers: Newton Thomas Sigel and Michael Wood.

IANs Rating: **

A good spy thriller has to have the two staple ingredients: a killer concept headed by a credible protagonist and an antagonist. That said, we are all assured that the cinematic value of espionage thrillers will never be lost.

Having offered some of the greatest action movies in cinema history, and giving us convoluted stories, smart plot twists, blasts, flare-ups and umpteen bangs, ideally, a spy thriller packs in so much as to keep you on the edge of your seat.

The American science-fiction television series “Citadel”, created by David Weil for Amazon Prime Video, with the Russo brothers acting as executive producers, and Richard Madden and Priyanka Chopra Jonas playing “Citadel” agents Mason Kane and Nadia Sinh. With a heavy dose of action, chases and alluring leads, it promises a lot.

The opening sequence has Priyanka in a red dress looking every inch the sexy sassy spy one would hope for. Only this time, she appears far more confident -- shall we say, starry? -- As she negotiates several inconsistent turns that the scriptwriters have unimaginatively woven into overfilled-with-possibilities expansions.

As of now, only two of the six-part series are available for viewing and an episode every week will follow from May 5 onwards.

If the first two episodes that are streaming now are any indication, the rest of the periodic flow of thrills will include developments in different territories with more action and

shifts justifying its universal appeal.

The 15 minutes of Priyanka’s Nadia Sinh and Mason Kane as agents of the global spy agency Citadel set the ball rolling on an innovatively advanced high-tech train. The two have a mission on their hands: to stop a man carrying a bag full of enriched uranium.

Taking orders from a far-off Bernard Orlick (Stanley Tucci) they must get in on the act to stop their adversary Manticore. They succeed, or so it seems. Several fights amid an exchange of several languages later, one learns that Citadel has fallen and its agents’ memories have been wiped clean.

And guess what? Both Mason and Nadia are presumed dead. Some eight years later, the threat of Manticore rising looms large and Citadel agents must be brought back to lead dangerous lives in a surreal world where their life is often on the line.

By the way, all those who will put aside everything else to accommodate this thriller in their schedules, are in for dis-

appointment, for Priyanka gets precisely 15 minutes of fame in the first episode. The rest of it focuses on Mason and his memory getting back to high speed action once again.

If the makers have outdone -- or at least tried their best -to outshine Bond’s penchant for long battles with bad guys, there’s something miserably wanting: humor. The smooth and suave Bond taps into whatever everyone desires in life as he is an embodiment of what every man wants to be and what every woman wants in men.

Described as an “action-packed spy series with a compelling emotional center” and “an expansive and ground-breaking global event comprising a mothership series and several local language satellite series,” the show is neither spectacular, nor rivetingly engaging, save, perhaps, the camerawork zooming across the Italian Alps, India, Spain, and Mexico.

If you are expecting a rollercoaster ride full of bumps and highs, this one isn’t the one for you. Not so far. What we get to enjoy in the subsequent epi-

sodes is anybody’s guess.

Priyanka, who seems post “Quantico” to have sharpened the art of keeping herself bravely engaged in all kinds of covert operations, spying, transporting weapons and supplies, and helping people escape while all along adding martial art skills, is in perfect shape.

Mouthing dialogues in husky tones, she has left behind her desi accent that stood out in “Quantico”, the 2015 thriller series, and looks and acts like any other global citizen.

Her poise and sureness is for everyone to admire and that alone should pave the way for other Indian female stars to head westwards.

Other than her, everyone else looks eager for more adventurous escapades to keep themselves going.

The series will include developments in different countries and languages. “The Family Man” duo Raj and DK have been signed to do the Indian adaptation featuring Varun Dhawan and Samantha Ruth Prabhu.

All you need to know about dementia in dogs

This syndrome correlates with the aging of the dog’s brain, which causes them to eventually lose their sharp awareness of their surroundings, learning capabilities, responsiveness and even memory.

The symptoms will first appear to be of a mild state; however, they will progress with time and unfortunately worsen and become more severe. This process is known as ‘Cognitive Decline’.

The signs of this condition are anxiety, restlessness, not wishing to play anymore, slow to learn new training, disorientation, decreased grooming, confusion, forgetting previous training, no control over urinating or defecating, sleep patterns

altered, decreased appetite, excessive licking, frustration and barking. According to statistics, it is seen that at least one out of every three dogs that are over the age of ten will display at least one sign of Canine Cognitive Dysfunction Syndrome. If you feel that your dog may be showing any of these signs, then your veterinarian can perform a full physical examination. He or she will also need a full history of when the symptom(s) initially presented themselves, in order to conduct a proper diagnosis of this condition. Other diagnostic measures may also be performed in order to rule out any other underlying causes for such exhibiting signs.

Canines that are diagnosed with Dog Dementia will then begin a long-term treatment of supportive care for this condition. Such care will consist of improving your dog’s living environment and health in order to maintain an ideal condition for improvement.

This will allow the Cognitive Decline to be delayed and not progress as quickly otherwise. Changes in exercise routine, playing time and also training, or needing to train again, will be introduced as well. Other adjustments that can be made to facilitate a dog with this condition is to provide night lights for your canine companion to navigate throughout the house easier in the dark. Place training pads near your dog so that there is a place for him or her to use the washroom in case of an emergency, where they cannot control their urination or bowel movement. Certain medications or behavioral treatments may also be advised by your veterinarian based on the individual case of your pet. Diet is also a key component to managing a better lifestyle. Certain supplements can also be added to the diet regiment in order to help with your dog’s cognitive function. Such as: Vitamin E, Vitamin C, Selenium, Beta Carotene, Carotenoids, Flavonoids, Omega-3 and Carnitine. Follow-up appointments with your veterinarian may be needed regularly.

Four essentials of financial planning for first-time parents

Being a first-time parent is an exciting experience that is followed by a new set of responsibilities. At times, these responsibilities can be both exhilarating and exhausting. Most new parents prioritise planning for their child’s daily needs, but it is also critical to begin planning the roadmap for securing their financial future.

Here are four key financial planning essentials to help ease your future worries and foolproof your child’s tomorrow:

Secured coverage with term insurance: Parents must ensure that they have adequate life insurance coverage in order to provide for their children as they grow older. A term life insurance policy is an excellent choice for this purpose. The term insurance policy will act as a backup plan, assisting your family in meeting their basic financial needs or liabilities if you are unable to do so.

Investing in new goals: Inflation can derail even the best-laid financial plans; therefore, you must invest in financial products that provide long-term returns that outperform inflation. To accomplish this, a strong yet flexible combination of investments and protection can assist you in getting started on the path to wealth creation for your child. Insurance companies provide a variety of plans, and if you want to build a corpus for your child, a combination of a Term Plan (for protection) and a Child Plan (for wealth creation) is an excellent choice to consider.

Plan for emergencies: Begin accumulating an

emergency fund to cover your child’s unforeseen needs and expenses. A well-structured financial plan is shock-proof because it includes a safety net for financial contingencies. Make a financial plan and figure out how much you can save each month. After considering an emergency fund, allocate the remainder to a good mix of insurance (life and health) and investments.

Prioritise retirement plans: Don’t put off working on your retirement plan and start saving now to avoid being unable to support your child’s dreams in the future. At the same time, keep track of your current and post-retirement lifestyle/aspirations. Chart out the future you want for your child. Highlight key milestones in their lives and begin earmarking amounts that they will require during that time. Remember to use a future expense calculator to figure out these numbers.

The birth of a child brings immense joy to the family; making adequate plans to secure their present and future in the face of life’s uncertainties will make parenthood a truly rewarding experience.

Sanjay Rana conquers his dream, smashes Ironman 70.3 Victoria

This dream cultivated after watching Sanju crossing that finishing line in “Jo Jeeta Wahi Sikandar”. Sunny Rana would feel what I am feeling. It was a relentless pursuit, marked by unwavering commitment and countless hours of training.

The past year had been par-

ticularly intense, but I wasn’t alone in this endeavor. My friend, Moe Sangha a pillar of support, had joined me on this incredible journey. Together, we faced grueling workouts, overcame obstacles and pushed each other beyond our limits everyday, rain or shine, hot or cold, we were training.

Luck by chance our Bib No. 430 & 431. As the race day arrived, a mix of nervous anticipation and excitement coursed through our veins when we entered waters last in Elk lake, Victoria Island. Crossing that finish line was the epitome of triumph, a testament to our unyielding dedication, commitment and also proving that nothing is impossible.

I would like to thank Preet Sandhu and Hardiyal Atwal who actually trained with us everyday. Without their help this wasn’t possible. Not to forget my own Punjab Running Club, where so many runners, inspire me everyday.

They say “You are in danger of living life so comfortable & soft ,that you will die without knowing your true potential”.

Thanks to all, my wife Harmeet Kaur who is always by my side. My kids Ambar and Anahita and my parents Pritam Chand Rana and Nita Rana, who personally were present to see me crossing that finish line. I also thank my friends who were always there during this journey - Anil Kawar Rana, Vijay Prec, Vikas Gaur, Mani Rana and Vishal Rana.

Parineeti realised Raghav was ‘the one’ over ‘one breakfast together’

actress Parineeti chopra spoke about the time she realized her fiancé and politician Raghav chadha was “the one” for her.

Parineeti took to Instagram, where she shared a slew of pictures from her engagement, which also features her sister Priyanka Chopra Jonas and other family members.

Parineeti captioned the post: “When you know, you know. One breakfast together and I knew - I had met the one. The most wonderful man whose quiet strength would be calming, peaceful and inspiring.”

“His support, humor, wit and friendship are pure joy. He is my home. Our engagement party was like living a dream - a dream unfurling beautifully amidst love, laughter, emotion and loads of dancing!”

Parineeti and Raghav got engaged in New Delhi at the Kapurthala house on May 13. On the acting front, Parineeti will be seen sharing the screen with Diljit Dosanjh in the Imtiaz Ali directorial ‘Chamkila’. The film is said to be inspired by Punjabi singer Amar Singh Chamkila.

Actor Arnold Schwarzenegger doesn’t think he was “disciplined” in terms of fitness.

Despite, the 75-yearold actor has been exercising since he was a child and won a string of awards as a bodybuilder before starting up his career in Hollywood movies and explained that, because he has spent decades sticking to the same exercise routines, it all comes naturally to him now, reports aceshowbiz.com.

“You know, I don’t consider myself disciplined because something that I’ve done since I was a little kid was working out in the morning. I remember when my father said, ‘You cannot have breakfast first, you have to earn it. You have to do 200 sit ups and push-ups,’ “ he told Entertainment Tonight.

“So that’s how I grew up. So now, this is [what I do]. I’m now addicted to working out every day. If I do a film, or like

when I was doing FUBAR, we were working out when we were night-shooting, we were working out at three in the

morning sometimes, and at five in the morning, or at nine in the morning. So it really doesn’t matter. I just have to get my one-hour workout in and then some bike riding to kind of get some cardiovascular training.”

The ‘Terminator’ star went on to insist that working out just makes him “feel good” regardless of whatever else he is working on at any given time. “It just makes you feel good, no matter what you do,” he shared. “If you do a TV series, if you do a movie, if you write a book, if you go and do a speech. Whatever you do, you need to feel fit and full of energy.”

Aditi Rao Hydari, Paige Sandhu to lead

Indo-UK coproduction ‘Lioness’

The film, an official Indo-UK co-production being made under the bilateral treaty signed by both countries in 2008, was announced on last month at the India Pavilion (managed by FICCI under the aegis of Ministry of Information and Broadcasting) at the Cannes Film Festival.

Written and directed by Kajri Babbar, the film will tell the story of princess Sophia Duleep Singh, the granddaughter of the great Maharaja Ranjit Singh, and the Goddaughter of Queen Victoria. She was one of the key leaders of the suffragette movement in the UK and also advocated for the rights of women and children.

Sophia’s character will be essayed by Paige Sandhu. The actress said in a statement, “It’s an honor and a dream come true to be playing Princess Sophia Duleep Singh. I am very humbled to be portraying someone with a legacy such as hers, the work that she did, the lives she helped and the family she came from. I truly hope to do justice to her incredible story.”

While Sophia’s story is rooted in history, the second story is a fictional tale of Mehak Kaur an educated, married immigrant woman living in 1990’s Southall. Mehak uncovers a fascinating story of women’s emancipation and empathy in contemporary times. The two stories play out in different eras, highlighting grit, determination and compassion.

Aditi Rao Hydari will portray the character of Mehak Kaur in the film. She said, “I was instantly drawn to the story that brings to the screen, the life and legacy of an extraordinary woman; a story lost in history. While Princess Sophia is a heroine in the true sense of the word, Mehak is an equally strong character whose journey parallels the Lioness’s in the present.”

The film, inspired by the research of Peter Bance, the historian who discovered the story of Princess Sophia Duleep, will be produced by Vivek Rangachari, Vaishalli Paatil, Faraz Ahsan, Clare Cahill and Ajit Pal Singh (Executive Producer), and has been certified by the National Film Development Corporation (NFDC) and the British Film Institute (BFI). Peter is also one of the executive producers on the film.

Choose the right amount of SPF in your sunscreen

we need to buy a good sunscreen with a good amount of SPF. But we also need to keep in mind certain factors while choosing the right SPF.

Aseem Sood, Managing director Proveda India shares how one has to be careful while choosing a right SPF for their skin.

Go for broad-spectrum: Knowing the importance of SPF, better choose the cream which has broad-spectrum as it will create a shield around your skin from UVA rays as well, besides UVB rays. UVA rays cause premature aging and skin cancer, on the other hand, exposure to UVB rays may lead to sunburn and skin cancer.

Know the sPf level: There are various SPF levels but SPF 15, 30 and 50 are mostly talked about. Most of the time SPF 15 is recommended but we would suggest going for a higher one like SPF 30. Using this higher version ensures higher protection

and for a longer time. Please note, even the dermatologist suggests to use SPF 15 OR 30. Make sure it is applied properly and at stated intervals.

sweat/ water-resistant: Before buying make sure the SPF cream is sweat or water-resistant, especially for those who are going to take a dip in a pool or a beach. Cream with water-resistant are sticky therefore you need to reapply it after every 2-3 hours.

Check the ingredients: If you are allergic to certain ingredients then you must check the ingredient section for it. One of the most unsafe ingredients is oxybenzone, which upsets the hormonal balance and can cause an allergic reaction too. Try to pick up a sunscreen that contains natural or herbal components rather than loads of chemicals.

Go with cream-based sPf: There are many kinds of SPF sunscreens available in the market, but we recommend the ones with a creamy base.

Do not use sprays as they contain nano-particles that are likely to enter the bloodstream and may lead to various health issues.

Expiry Date: Last but not the least, always check the expiry

date. The expired products not only lose their efficiency, but they also tend to damage the skin.
