Happy Canada Day to one and all Dear readers,

www.entertainmentmagazine.ca

Last month, some of the biggest names of the entertainment industry came to Vancouver to spread their magic. While the revered singer Atif Aslam mesmerised the audience with his melodious performance, ace comedian Kapil Sharma left the spectators in splits with his amazing comic timing. I hope we get to enjoy such wonderful performances in our city in the future as well. With the support of the federal government and the people, the fight to end Covid-19 is going strong. In late June, Canada’s Covid-19 vaccination requirement for domestic and outbound travellers, as well as federal bureaucrats and transportation workers was suspended. Masking, however, is still required on planes and trains. I am sure we are moving in the right direction to end this menace that has disrupted many lives across the globe. The month of July commemorates Canada Day. With the Covid restrictions being eased across Canada, I hope we celebrate our beloved holiday with all the zeal and enthusiasm.

Life Insurance is an immensely beneficial financial tool SIt is very important to purchase life insurance if you have any financially dependent family members. For example, your spouse or dependent children necessarily require financial protection.

6

B

ut, even if you are someone’s exspouse, sibling of a dependent adult, a child of dependent parents, an employer, an employee, or a business partner may need to purchase insurance. On the other hand, if you are stably retired or financially independent, and your absence won’t cause financial hardship for anybody, you don’t need life insurance. However, you can use life insurance as an effective financial tool.

www.entertainmentmagazine.ca

Choices available for life insurance Among the various choices available for life insurance, we can broadly categorize life insurance into Term Insurance and Permanent Insurance. While on the one hand, a Term Life plan offers protection with minimum expenses but limited features, a Universal Life plan provides the most comprehensive coverage and features by investing more payment in the premiums. In term life insurance, the policy premium is based upon the probability that the insured will die within a stated term, typically 10, 20, or 30 years. The premi-

ums are guaranteed during the opted term, after which they can escalate. But, in permanent life insurance, the premiums are guaranteed for life. Permanent life insurance offers cash buildup within the policy. Consult an advisor in- person if you plan to purchase life insurance Through online tools or a phone call, a Punjab Insurance agent can help provide you with the initial assistance in gaining a general idea about the financial requirements (premiums) of a life insurance policy. But to gain a deeper insight into what you are purchasing it’s always better to consult an expert insurance agent. Since a certified agent is well aware of the related procedures for application and underwriting and has a better understanding of various insurance carriers offering insurance. They will help you choose the best option available at affordable rates keeping in mind your health. This article is © Copyrighted 2022-06-25 and can be reproduced only with prior permission. Health check-ups every man needs

www.entertainmentmagazine.ca July 2022

Most people underestimate the significance of regular examinations. Our hectic and unpredictable lifestyle frequently prevents us from seeking routine preventive care.

P

eople usually only come when they are seriously ill. In fact, health surveys show that men are less likely than women to visit doctors. Men over the age of 50 should have a yearly physical examination, while those under the age of 50 should have one every three to five years. Even if you feel healthy, it is critical to have regular check-ups because they help to diagnose disease early and reduce the risk of complications. 5 important health checkups for men: The doctor will determine which tests to perform and how frequently they should be performed based on the individual’s health conditions. The following tests are recommended for the general population. Blood sugar: Risk factors for

developing high blood sugar levels include family history of diabetes, obesity. The risk of getting diabetes increases as you grow older. Regular screening for diabetes using fasting, post prandial and HbA1C is recommended for individuals above 40 years. Lipid profile: All adults over the age of 35 should get their cholesterol checked every 5 years. You might need to begin screening as early as 20 years of age if you have certain risk factors such as diabetes, smoking, a body mass index above 30, family history of stroke, or first-degree relatives who have had deranged cholesterol levels. Blood pressure: Blood pressure is the pressure exerted by your blood on the walls of blood vessels. A high BP puts you at risk of various health conditions like heart disease, kidney disease, and stroke. It is very easy to check your BP at home with the help of automated apparatus. A normal blood pressure level is less than 120/80 mmHg. As the dietary modifications happening due to cultural changes in the society, the onset of hypertension is seen in young adults. Hence adults above age of 18 should have their BP checked at least once. People with comorbidities like diabetes, heart disease or kid-

ney problems should have their blood pressure checked more often. Prostate-Specific Antigen (PSA) Test: About 1 in 8 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer during his lifetime. It is one of the top ten leading cancers for men in India. Prostate cancer screening can help identify cancer early on, when treatment is most effective. It is done with a simple, widely available blood test called Prostate-Specific Antigen (PSA) Test, sometimes combined with a digital rectal exam (DRE) to feel the prostate for abnormalities. Thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH): Thyroid hormones control the metabolism and contribute to our overall energy levels, nerve functions, and much more. Any irregularities with the thyroid can lead to various health problems and cause weight gain, lethargy, exhaustion, or fatigue. TSH test is done to find out how well the thyroid is working. High and low TSH can affect fertility in men. Elderly men over the age of 50, as well as individuals with risk factors for heart disease, should have a yearly echocardiogram and treadmill test to screen for heart disease. Diabetic patients should have a yearly kidney disease screening with a Creatinine and urine test. Individuals who exhibit high-risk behaviour should be screened for sexually transmitted diseases. Canada Day Every year on July 1, Canadians celebrate their national holiday, Canada Day. This day commemorates the union of the British territories in North America into one single entity: Canada. It’s one of the biggest celebrations across the country and most businesses are closed to revel in the festivities, including government offices, many retailers, some grocery stores, and liquor stores.

14

www.entertainmentmagazine.ca

History of Canada Day Canada Day commemorates the anniversary of the British North America Act, which was signed on July 1, 1867. Under the act, the separate British colonies of North America came together for the first time under the same name, Canada. It’s not quite an “Independence Day” since the newly-formed Canada continued to be a British colony and gradually gained full independence from the U.K. over the next century.

July 2022

Although Canada now fully runs its own government and national affairs, it’s still a constitutional monarchy and the reigning king or queen of the U.K. is the official head of state, albeit a figurehead. Enjoying Canada Day Banks, government offices, and many other stores and businesses close on July 1 (or the following Monday if July 1 falls on a weekend). Even many retailers and grocery stores close down in observance of the holiday. Tourist attractions and restaurants are usually open but may have reduced hours, so it’s always wise to call ahead to confirm. In most cities, public transit is available but runs on an altered holiday schedule with reduced frequency, so plan extra time for getting around. Typically, Canada Day celebrations include parades,

fireworks, backyard barbecues, and other get-togethers. Many revelers wear red and white in honor of Canada’s national colors and the Canadian flag is proudly hung up in front of buildings and on windows. Canada Day in Ottawa Ottawa is Canada’s capital and the nucleus of Canada Day events in the whole country. The bulk of Ottawa’s Canada Day festivities happen on Parliament Hill and at Major’s Hill Park, right on the banks of the Ottawa River. Head down to the park early in the day to enjoy a patriotic festival with concerts, food stands, and interactive art displays, but also to snag a viewing spot for the evening fireworks show. During the day, a special dignitary addresses the city and the nation from Parliament Hill with a commemorative speech—past speakers include Canadian prime ministers, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, and Queen Elizabeth II herself. Many of Ottawa’s museums are open and have free admission including the National Gallery of Canada, Canadian Museum of History, and Canadian War Museum. Check individual museum websites to confirm admission rates and opening hours.

Canada Day in Toronto As Canada’s most populous and most visited city, Toronto puts on a party to remember for Canada’s Birthday. As with other cities, Toronto celebrates Canada Day with festivals, live music, and fireworks in several parks around the entire city, making it easy to find a convenient location to join in on the fun. Mel Lastman Square in the north of Toronto is one of the biggest events, bringing in around 30,000 spectators each year, but downtown has plenty of revelries to enjoy with a final fireworks show over Lake Ontario. One can’t-miss event is the Toronto Ribfest in Centennial Park, located in the city of Etobicoke and right next to the Toronto International Airport. This artisan food fair takes place every year during the weekend of or after Canada Day, bringing out thousands of locals and visitors to celebrate the holiday with finger-licking delicious barbecued ribs. Canada Day in Vancouver From a city-wide parade to a huge fishing festival, Vancouver goes all out for Canada Day. The hip and trendy Granville Island is always near the top of lists of things to see in Vancouver regardless of the time of year, but for Canada Day it’s extra special. Multicul-

tural performances, live music, a parade, and a massive birthday cake for Canada are just some of the highlights. The Waterfront Party at Canada Place is one of the most happening places to celebrate in Vancouver, with street hockey tournaments, live performances, food stalls, and genuine citizenship ceremonies. It’s also a perfect viewing point for the evening fireworks spectacular over the water, so don’t leave before enjoying the show. Canada Day in Montreal In Montreal and around the entire province of Quebec, Canada Day is not celebrated as fervently as in the rest of the country. Federal offices and banks are closed, but many people in Quebec look at July 1 as “moving day” because this date has been historically the end of lease agreements. However, you’ll still find some festivities for this national holiday—called fête du Canada locally—and the majority of them are concentrated downtown around the Old Port. The party kicks off with a dramatic 21 gun salute by the Canadian Armed Forces. As with other major cities, the afternoon is filled with live music, food stalls, and interactive exhibits for family-friendly fun, with a fireworks show over the Saint Lawrence River to finish off the night. Tips to prevent injuries during workout

W

orkout at home might seem harder especially when gyms are closed. But with a proper planning, you can continue your workouts safely at home. Sometimes rigorous workouts could lead to tissue damage or severe injuries. Injuries could range from normal strains, sprains to body pains. During the 16 Covid-19 pandemic, many people have adopted exercise as a part of their daily routine. One must plan carefully while choosing the exercises because some exercises might not fit your health conditions.

Reasons for exercise injuries 4 Beginning exercise directly without warm-up 4 Repeating the same motion rigorously 4 Not maintaining the proper form of exercise 4 Not taking enough breaks in between workouts 4 Pushing your limits too hard 4 Not using proper equipment Tips to prevent injuries during exercise 4 W arm-up and Cool Down Warming up before starting your actual exercise is very important. Warm-up will

help your body to have proper blood flow and avoid injuries. The simple way to warm up is to exercise slowly for the first few minutes, then pick up the pace. Suppose if you are running, begin with the brisk walk for 5 to 10 minutes and then pick up the pace slowly. One should also make sure to cool down after exercise. This would help you to bring down your heart rate and body temperature to normal.

www.entertainmentmagazine.ca

4Stretching or not Stretching will help you to stay flexible. Make sure to stretch at least 2 times a week. However, it is unclear whether stretching really reduces injury. You can stretch either before or after exercise.

July 2022

4 Avoid stretching on cold muscles. 4 Do not hold the stretch for longer than 15 to 30 seconds. 4Do not overdo it.

4Select your exercise carefully Before you plan your exercise, make sure to check your health conditions. Consult your health care provider to ensure that you’re healthy enough to perform exercises. Initially, begin with low-intensity exercises such as: 4Walking 4Swimming 4Riding a stationary bike 4Golf These exercises are less prone to injuries

compared to activities like running or aerobics. 4 Choose the right equipment A careful selection of equipment could reduce your risk of injury. Select your exercise equipment: 4Must fit properly 4 Must be in good working condition 4 Must be used consistently and right direction 4 Listen to your body To build stamina and increase strength, you will have to push your body. But it should be done slowly and gradually. Beginners are the most common victim here. In order to get fast results, they push their body harder which ends up causing injuries. You can expect sore muscles after a workout but you should never experience pain while exercising. Stop working out right away if you feel pain. Avoid implementing the following changes all at the same time. 4 Duration of exercise 4 Number of days you exercise 4Increasing efforts on work out If you’re suffering from any such injuries, our MJPhysio physiotherapists can evaluate your condition and plan a customized treatment for you. Pet snakes: Are they safe? In this month’s article, we will be discussing a common fear that many face of whether keeping a snake as a pet is safe or even logical.

18

O

n Earth, there are over 3,000 species of different snakes. Some are deadly with poisonous venous and hot tempers. Others are as gentle as a breeze and completely safe for even children to play with! From all these various species, the most seen to be kept as pets are Ball Pythons, King Snakes, certain Boa Constrictors, Garter Snakes, Rat Snakes and Corn Snakes. The most common from all of these listed above would be the Ball Python Snake. In most general cases, the snakes that are often distributed in pet trade are those of easy-going nature and easy to handle by the owner and family.

www.entertainmentmagazine.ca

Majority of people will fear that having a snake pet will lead to having their loves ones being bit and killed. Interestingly, statistics show that almost 800,000 individuals go to the doctor due to dog bites and around 400,000 people seek medical attention for cat bites.

Only around 80,000 people approximately go to the emergency hospital for snake bite related incidents. Despite more than 1 million households having pet snakes, less than 10 fatalities occur in North America from such snake bites. In comparison, an individual is more likely to die or become seriously ill from a bee or wasp sting, than a household snake pet. When one thinks of keeping a snake as a pet, certain dangerous points commonly come to mind. Venomous bites are one of the most common dangers that every individual likes to consider. It is important to keep in mind that in majority provinces and states, high venomous snakes are illegal to be owned. Rarely, certain special collectors will gain ownership of such species, but these cannot, however, be commonly owned. One of the safe snake species to keep as pets, known as the Garter Snake, is recorded to produce small amounts of venom, however this dose is harmless to a human, if bitten. Another concern many people will have is being constricted to death by a snake. Snakes will normally constrict around prey that they have hunted, by coiling around the victim and squeezing until the heartbeat stops. A large constrictor snake should only be kept as a pet by an experienced snake owner. Some owners become concerned that snakes might spread disease to themselves or their loved ones. Like dogs and cats, snakes can also carry certain organisms in their waste, such as: Salmonella, Leptospirosis, Campylobacteriosis and Botulism. Owners simply need to wash their hands after handing feces or urine and to keep a clean environment for the pet and others. This can be said the same towards dog and cat owners as well.

July 2022

Snake species that are excellent examples for children and beginner snake owners would be Western Hognose, Corn Snakes and Ball Pythons, Garter Snakes, Rough Green Snakes, Milk Snakes, Ringneck Snakes, California King Snakes and African Brown House Snakes. Snake species that are best to be cared for only by very experienced snake owners are Green Anacondas, Reticulated Pythons, Boa Constrictors, Burmese Pythons, Cobras, African Rock Pythons, Reticulated, and Elephant Trunk Snakes.

It is important to keep in mind that in majority provinces and states, high venomous snakes are illegal to be owned. Rarely, certain special collectors will gain ownership of such species, but these cannot, however, be commonly owned. By: Dr. Sifti Bhullar

Talking about one of such films ‘Jab Tak Hai Jaan’, the veteran actress said, “It was a special appearance where I played the on-screen mother of Katrina Kaif. “Technically speaking, if we go by the context, my character Pooja was a negative one. She left her daughter and family for her lover. But Adi (Aditya Chopra, producer of the film) sat me down and explained that he wanted to cast a couple who would come across as ‘in love’

5 lifestyle changes help you ease your period pains

www.entertainmentmagazine.ca

Pain and discomfort are often considered a part of menstruation. 80 per cent of women experience pain during menstruation at some point in their lives.

H

owever, for some of them, it could last from the beginning of their periods to menopause. For most women, period pain can be managed through some lifestyle change. Speaking to IANSlife Aastha Sharma, Co-founder, of Imbue Natural shares tips that can help you ease period pain and manage it efficiently:

July 2022

Switch to Healthy Snacking: Your diet plays an important role in maintaining healthy uterine upkeep. The hormonal imbalance during periods often leads to unhealthy food cravings. While you give in to your food cravings, make sure that you also eat snacks that are healthy and will provide you with essential nutrients. Make sure to include healthy fatty acids such as Omega 3 in your diet. Exercise: Indulging in physical activities has also proven to reduce period pain. Walking, running, swimming or yoga can help you relieve pain. Exercise releases hormones like endorphins and serotonin that act as natural pain-killers. Stay Hydrated: Period cramps will feel more painful if you’re dehydrated. Make sure that you drink at least 2 to 3 litres of water in a day. You can also include fruit juices in your diet that will

nourish your body while keeping it hydrated. Heat Therapy: Pampering your body while on your period can not only reduce pain but also help your body relax. Women often use hot water bags to reduce cramping and comfort the abdominal region, however, a hot water bag can prove tedious when it comes to managing the temperature and finding instant comfort. An alternative to this is using period pain relief oils. Imbue’s Rosa Period Pain Oil is one such alternative that is made with the goodness of pressed cinnamon, yarrow, and vetiver oil. Take a break, stop working through it: Women are often taught to keep menstruation a private affair, and talking about periods is often stigmatised. We are expected to endure the pain and work through it. Stress from work and domestic life can add to the physical discomfort. You must listen to your body and give it a break as and when it needs. SPS Sergeant delivers parent workshop on youth gang prevention

O

Sergeant Jag Khosa of Surrey Police Service

n Saturday, June 4, 2022, Sergeant Jag Khosa of Surrey Police Service delivered an hourlong workshop for parents on the topic of gangs and drugs. The invitation to present came from concerned and engaged parents of secondary school students with the full support of the school’s administration. The Surrey Guru Nanak Sikh Gurudwara graciously allowed use of their facilities to host the workshop and the event was well attended, with over 150 parents, grandparents and guardians coming out to participate. Media and community leaders were also in attendance. Sergeant Khosa provided an overview of the ways in which gangs operate in the Lower Mainland and their direct connection to the drug trade. The realities of gang recruitment and the inherent dangers of gang involvement for youth and the community

were discussed but the primary focus of the workshop was on prevention and the positive results that could be achieved through community involvement, volunteerism and healthy relationships between parents, schools, police, and neighbourhoods. The interest for this event and the large turnout was a clear demonstration that much can be accomplished when parents, community stakeholders, police, and schools come together to support each other and to work collaboratively to solve problems.

Let’s get ready, we’ll eat out tonight.”, Sam said and went to take a shower. I helped Nancy get ready. We went out and ate at Nancy’s favorite restaurant. Sam was extremely happy. He loved me so much that evening that I enjoyed living with him for several lives.

“Sam looks much healthier and graceful now. He has got great support from you. May god always keep you guys happy.”, Meenu’s mom-in-law said.

The next day, I gave this happy news to Meenu and her mom-in-law. Their joy knew no bounds. Meenu, her mom-in-law and Vismad were with me at my house when Sam returned from work. Sam expressed his great happiness to see them. Sam touched Meenu’s mom-in-law’s feet and she blessed him. Sam also greeted Meenu and Vismad lovingly. “Please have a seat; I’ll be back in two minutes after

“Rather I have got the support to live a life.”, I thought and cast a smile at her. Sam came after having a shower. We had a wonderful family evening that day. “He is your real dad, Nancy, not uncle.”, I told Nancy. She said nothing, just began thinking about something. Then she lay by my side quietly. Soon, she began snoring softly. Sam came and lay on the other side of Nancy. He had a fatherly gaze at Nancy. Then he closed his eyes for a moment, raised his face up, opened his eyes and kissed Nancy’s forehead.

I wished if Sam had been so sane in the beginning, I wouldn’t have suffered so much. I was continuously looking at Sam. After kissing Nancy’s forehead, Sam began fingering my hair. I closed my eyes with a deep sigh of relief. I felt like a rudderless boat had reached the shore. Though my eyes were seeing darkness, I was seeing a new happy morning. Suddenly, I recalled the pandit’s forecast that I didn’t have happy-married-life stars. But leaving such thoughts aside, I decided to live in my present. Continued in next edition

Greens can help control body odour

July 2022

In simple terms, body odour is the smell your body exudes when sweat comes in contact with the bacteria.

>>

The odour is not a result of just sweat but the bacteria that causes the sweat to smell. The most common affected areas are the armpits, groin, and pubic areas.

W

hile body odour is common in most people and the extent of the odour depends from person to person, an individual may be more prone to body odour if they are overweight, eat certain types of foods, have certain prior health conditions or are under stress. There are many factors that cause our body to smell and according to Soumita Biswas, Chief Nutritionist, Aster RV Hospital, “Various factors like diet, sex, health, and medication contribute to body odour but the major contribution comes from bacterial activity on skin and gland secretions. There are three types of sweat glands present in the human body namely sebaceous glands, eccrine sweat glands and apocrine sweat glands. Body odour typically results from the apocrine sweat glands from which most chemical compounds are secreted that the microbiota present on the skin further processes into the substances that cause odour. Certain areas are more prone to this process, such as the underarm area, the navel

area, the neck, the genitals and behind the ears. Largely the armpits are an area of concern in comparison to any other part of the body.” How does diet play a role in body odour? “Diet can play a contributing role in body odour. Potent items like chilly, garlic, onion etc. can give a pungent odour to the sweat. A protein-rich diet is also believed to be a cause of body odour. If you are eating high levels of certain foods, foul-smelling compounds they contain may be excreted through your sweat glands to give an unpleasant odour. Those compounds are known as VOCs (volatile organic compounds), and they can produce some particularly pungent sweat, according to a New York-based dermatological study”, Soumita adds, “Increasing intake of certain nutrients helps reduce body odours. Greens: Spinach, lettuce, kale, arugula and other leafy green vegetables contain high levels of chlorophyll. Odour-inducing components in the body can be easily neutralised by chlorophyll.

6 ways to cope with anger in a professional setting

Citrus Fruits: The acids contained in citrus fruits like oranges, lemons and grapefruit encourage the passage of water through the body, which minimizes toxins. These can be consumed in form of fruit or fruit juices for maximum benefit. Herbal Teas: Herbal teas such as chamomile, green tea and peppermint improve digestion hence preventing unwanted residuals in the gut which cause bad odour. Floral jasmine tea can actively help you smell fresher. By: N. Lothungbeni Humtsoe

Improving the work culture The workplace should have a foundation built on rational problem solving and positive behaviour of the employees. This will help in avoiding unnecessary instances which lead to anger. Practise relaxation skills Put your relaxation abilities to use when your temper rises. Deep breathing exercises, concentrating on the flow of energies in your body, visualizing a calming scenery, or repeating a calming word or phrase, such as “Take it easy,” can all help you relax. You might also listen to music, and practise a few yoga positions if you want to relax or exercise before going to work. Exercising is a great way to let some steam off. Doing things will not only keep you physically healthy but also mentally fit which will help you deal with similar situations better. Control your physical responses Rather than going off on a person when you

Journal down your thoughts Writing things down might sometimes serve you in figuring out why you’re angry and how to deal with it. Try writing a letter to someone to figure out what’s making you upset, how you’re reacting to it, and how you want to deal with your feelings. Take a moment to reread your letter before sharing it. This strategy will allow you to express your emotions while also allowing you to put things into perspective by reading over your words. You may decide not to send the letter because your emotions have subsided after writing it, or you may discover that writing it down helps you find the perfect words to use in a discussion. Take a break If things have gotten too much for you - one of the finest solutions is to take out some time for yourself. Take a break from work and eat your lunch/grab a cup of coffee with a close colleague or simply go for a walk outside. Getting out from behind those four walls can give you the physical and mental distance you need to de-stress and unwind. Be forgiving and understanding Choose forgiveness over anger if you believe someone at work has treated you unfairly. Focus on the more positive emotions of understanding rather than the negative emotion of rage. You can learn to be more forgiving and considerate to others by being more thoughtful, aware, and sure of your identity. This can also help you focus better on work by preventing you from wasting energy on arguments and confrontations. By: N. Lothungbeni Humtsoe

are angry, it is better to calm down and then approach the situation. This way you will have a better understanding of the whole matter and will be able to face it with a clear mind. There are many situations that will be beyond your control, it is critical to let go of your anger. Ask yourself “Can I resolve whatever is creating this anger?”. nger is a natural feeling that everyone experiences from time to time. We commonly experience it in response to challenging events, such as those that make us feel unappreciated or powerless. A difference of opinion is a key factor: when people battle for their point of view, voices and tensions frequently grow. Negative emotions will inevitably arise at work, just as they do in our personal life - and this isn’t necessarily a bad thing. What matters is how you deal with those negative emotions and move forward. Harshit Malik; Enrichment Guide, Wisdom Coach and an Entrepreneur gives six tips that will help you cope with anger in your workspace.

Develop healthy habits like taking short walks after dinner (but don’t overdo it as you don’t want this walk to wake you from slumber). Hair is an important part of your appearance The hair on your head is an essential part of who you are. It’s an essential part of your identity as a person, and it can also be a major factor in how confident you feel about yourself. There are many reasons why you should keep your hair looking nice and clean. Wash your hair regularly with shampoo and conditioner (or use dry shampoo if necessary, but sparingly as it leaves residue on the scalp). This will keep the mane shiny, soft, and fragrant. Use a small quantity of hair product (styling wax or cream) to ensure your hairstyle stays intact for at least a few hours. You might as well score a date or two if you’re consistent with trimming your beard or going completely clean shaven, whichever you prefer.

Proper skin and hair care can help you feel more confident, and it can also give you a head-start for impressing potential employers or spark a college love story. There are a lot of resources available for learning about how to take good care of your hair and skin, including YouTube videos and free online articles. Additionally, there are many great books available on healthy hygiene practices. By following these tips, you’ll be able to keep your skin in check and your life on track. By: Suraj Chaudhari

Keep a journal of what activities lead to better or worse sleep. You may notice that certain foods, drinks, or stress factors affect your sleep cycle.

Keep your nails clean and neatly trimmed as well Keeping your nails clean and neatly trimmed is an easy way to maintain good hygiene and feel great. Unclean or overgrown nails create a really bad impression. Trim nails regularly, so they don’t get too long. Use a nail file to smooth the edges of your nails after trimming them with a clipper, or use an emery board for quick touch-ups. A nail buffer can also be used in this department if you’d like to give your nails some extra shine.

Magical moments - When grandparents meet their grandchildren for the first time

w

By: Nikita Sharma

hen a baby is coming, it’s not only the expectant parents who are filled to the brim with joy and excitement about the new addition to the family. Grandparents are sometimes almost as anxious about an impending birth as the parents are, and when that new baby comes, the grandparents are often standing right behind the happy mom and dad, smiling and cooing at the baby over the parents’ shoulders, ready to step in if needed. It is mesmerizing to meet your child’s child. You hold this tiny being and see your own child so many years ago. You feel the love of the years and struggles sweep by you in this little tiny face. The little eyes meet yours and you see something new, but so familiar too. It’s an overwhelming experience to see, hold and observe this tiny being who is part of you, but not you.

32

www.entertainmentmagazine.ca

There is this new little life who is yours, but not your responsibility. This child is meant as pure enjoyment and love for you, with the work belonging to someone else. It’s a beautiful thing. There’s a saying that having children is like having your heart walking around outside of your body. I think grandchildren take a little bit of your soul too.

Secret makeup tips from Cannes Film Festival 2022

July 2022

The Cannes red carpet always sets the pace for the upcoming festive season when it comes to beauty and and fashion. Makeup artist Divya Behl shared her secret tips for you to try out:

4Double cleanse your face and put on your vitamins first such as vitamin C, niacinamide serum or hyaluronic serum for plumper skin. 4A good hydrating moisturiser that’s not too oily is key. Moisturised skin will allow for the makeup to grip and last longer. 4Always apply light layers onto your skin and don’t rush it. Allow products to settle into the skin before adding more on top. And finger tips can help blend products, especially cream based, into the skin for a flawless finish. 4Highlighting any part of the face makes it look bigger, brighter and better. For bigger looking eyes highlight them. 4To get the face contouring and jawline right, simply draw a number ‘3’ around the eyes and cheeks. Then dust on the powder using a contouring brush and carefully blend in the blush. 4This is an old trick, but it’s a sure-shot one. To make lipstick last through the day, just put it on the lips then place a tissue

across the lips. Sprinkle some powder to make the colour set. For quick lip gloss, take any old broken eyeshadow pieces that are left. Press them into a powder, squeeze a little petroleum jelly into it and voila! 4For colours in lipstick, choose from light pink and mauve, which are “icy” colours and look cool. It may be a good idea to stick to lip gloss during the day. For the night, you can use brighter colours. 4Add any face oil to your lips for a fuller pout. 4Powder-based makeup when layered over cream makeup will last hours longer than just applied alone. Cream-based products, if applied alone, will sweat off the fastest. 4Finish with a setting spray, sealing your look is the most vital and effective step to keep summer makeup woes at bay. While it adds a protective layer to your makeup, it also helps in setting the base to keep you worry-free throughout the day. 4Stash in some blotting paper, one of the cleverest tricks can sometimes fall flat on your face and if you are someone who suffers from excessive facial sweating, keeping a blotting paper in your purse is a great way to keep extra moisture and sweat at bay. Taking a closer look at Korean glass skin routine

K

orean beauty standards were previously unknown to the rest of the world, but after the “Hallyu wave,” also known as the “Korean wave,” infiltrated almost every major market in the world, the growing demand for Korean beauty products is ever increasing.

Here’s a step-by-step procedure for achieving the Korean glass skin. 4Step one is to double cleanse your face: Whether you go out a lot or not, whether you wear make up or not, we accumulate specks of dirt on our faces after a long day and with the daily chores that we do, and according to Korean beauty standards, the first thing to do is to double cleanse your face with an oil-based product that helps remove all the makeup from your face.

4Exfoliation is the second step, and it helps the skin maintain its smoothness. However, most skin experts advise against overdoing it. 4To give your dry flaky skin hydration, the third step of glass skin is to tone your skin with the right product and amount of low PH levels. . The fourth step Essence focuses on skin issues such as wrinkles, redness, and uneven skin tone. The consistency of Essence is watery and lighter than serum.

. The sheet mask soaked in serums is the most enjoyable and personal favourite step of the Korean glass skincare routine. It instantly hydrates your skin and gives you a magical glow if applied correctly. 4Because the skin under our eyes is thin and the skin’s ability to renew itself diminishes as we age, the area under our eyes is more susceptible to wrinkles than any other part of our body. As a result, you’ll need undereye cream to get rid of bags under your eyes. 4The moisturising step, like the basic skincare routine, is recommended to prevent your skin from drying out. 4We can’t say it enough: SPF! SPF! SPF! Even on cloudy days or when you are inside your home with all the amenities at your fingertips, it is recommended that you apply SPF to prevent ageing. By: N. LothungbeniHumtsoe

All you need to know about gout 34

Gout is a common and complex form of arthritis that can affect anyone. It’s characterized by sudden, severe attacks of pain, swelling, redness and tenderness in one or more joints, most often in the big toe.

A

n attack of gout can occur suddenly, often waking you up in the middle of the night with the sensation that your big toe is on fire. The affected joint is hot, swollen and so tender that even the weight of the bedsheet on it may seem intolerable.

www.entertainmentmagazine.ca

Symptoms The signs and symptoms of gout almost always occur suddenly, and often at night. They include: Intense joint pain: Gout usually affects the big toe, but it can occur in any joint. Other commonly affected joints include the ankles, knees, elbows, wrists and fingers. The pain is likely to be most severe within the first four to 12 hours after it begins.

July 2022

Lingering discomfort: After the most severe pain subsides, some joint discomfort may last from a few days to a few weeks. Later attacks are likely to last longer and affect more joints. Inflammation and redness: The affected joint or joints become swollen, tender, warm and red. Limited range of motion: As gout progresses, you may not be able to move your joints normally Causes Gout occurs when urate crystals accumulate in your joint, causing the inflammation and intense pain of a gout attack. Urate crystals can form when you have high levels of uric acid in your blood. Your body produces uric acid when it breaks down purines — substances that are found naturally in your body. Purines are also found in certain foods, including red meat and organ meats, such as liver. Purine-rich seafood includes anchovies, sardines, mussels, scallops, trout and tuna. Alcoholic beverages, especially beer, and drinks sweetened with fruit sugar (fructose) promote higher levels of uric acid. Normally, uric acid dissolves in your blood and passes through your kidneys into your urine.

But sometimes either your body produces too much uric acid or your kidneys excrete too little uric acid. When this happens, uric acid can build up, forming sharp, needlelike urate crystals in a joint or surrounding tissue that cause pain, inflammation and swelling. Risk factors You’re more likely to develop gout if you have high levels of uric acid in your body. Factors that increase the uric acid level in your body include: Diet: Eating a diet rich in red meat and shellfish and drinking beverages sweetened with fruit sugar (fructose) increase levels of uric acid, which increase your risk of gout. Alcohol consumption, especially of beer, also increases the risk of gout. Weight: If you’re overweight, your body produces more uric acid and your kidneys have a more difficult time eliminating uric acid. Medical conditions: Certain diseases and conditions increase your risk of gout. These include untreated high blood pressure and chronic conditions such as diabetes, obesity, metabolic syndrome, and heart and kidney diseases. Certain medications: Low-dose aspirin and some medications used to control hypertension — including thiazide diuretics, angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors and beta blockers — also can increase uric acid levels. So can the use of anti-rejection drugs prescribed for people who have undergone an organ transplant. Family history of gout: If other members of your family have had gout, you’re more likely to develop the disease. Age and sex: Gout occurs more often in men, primarily because women tend to have lower uric acid levels. After menopause, however, women’s uric acid levels approach those of men. Men are also more likely to develop gout earlier — usually between the ages of 30 and 50 — whereas women generally develop signs and symptoms after menopause. Cont. in next edition

Newborn care: 7 tips for stressed-out parents

A

newborn can bring a whirlwind of activity and excitement to your life — and plenty of stress and fatigue, too. Whether you’re a firsttime parent or a veteran, consider 10 practical tips to keep stress under control. Resist the urge to count caffeine as a major food group or a substitute for sleep. 1. Take care of yourself Instead, eat a healthy diet, drink plenty of water and get some fresh air. Sleep when the baby sleeps — and try to work out a nighttime schedule with your partner that allows both of you to rest and care for the

baby. Good habits will help you maintain the energy you need to care for your newborn. 2. Establish visiting rules Friends and loved ones might come out of the woodwork to admire your newborn. Let them know which days work best and how much time you have for a visit. Insist that visitors wash their hands before holding the baby, and ask anyone who’s ill to stay home. Let trusted visitors care for the baby while you get some much needed rest. 3. Go with the flow Allow plenty of time each day for nursing sessions, naps and crying spells. When you need to head out, give yourself extra time to pack your supplies and make that inevitable last-minute diaper change.

Chances are, you and your partner are both tired and anxious as well. To help you stay connected, talk about

5. Relax your standards Leave dust bunnies where they lie for now. Store clean clothes in the laundry basket — or in stacks on the floor — until you need them. Clean the bathroom with a fresh diaper wipe. Serve cold cereal and peanut butter toast for dinner when you’re too tired to prepare a more traditional meal.

37

6. Get out of the house If you’re going stir-crazy with a fussy newborn, take the baby out for a walk. If you can, let someone you trust take over for a while. 7. Accept a helping hand When friends and loved ones offer to help, take them up on it. Suggest holding the baby, folding the laundry or running a few errands — whatever would help you the most. Varun Dhawan: No one can predict a film’s fate I n a career span of 10 years in the Hindi film industry, he is one of the few actors who delivered as many as 11 hit films.

But as the audience is evolving in the post-pandemic era, and Indian cinema is passing through a sea change, Bollywood superstar Varun Dhawan, who is ready to face the box office results of his film ‘Jugjugg Jeeyo’, says no formula can be fixed to predict the fate of a film.

“Whether it is a ‘KGF’, ‘RRR’, or ‘Sooryavanshi’, people watched them. But that does not mean that all larger-than-life event film works... as I said, there is no formula. Our film is a

“You know, Karan is a big name in this industry and he has in-depth knowledge about the whole box office game. He watched and loved the film and decided to release it in theatres. We had offers from OTT platforms for its direct OTT release with good financial deals. But he is taking the risk of releasing it theatrically. “Even I have a share in the film as a producer because we had to restructure the finance post the pandemic. This is as much as my film and the audience are looking forward to that... it’s a family entertainer coming from the house of Karan Johar. I know that our fans will love the film,” Varun signed off. Talking to IANS, Varun said: “Look, honestly speaking, no matter how much we guess, analyse and predict the fate of a film, at the end of the day, there is no formula and no one knows what works at the box office. And we have seen that in recent times. Post the pandemic, things have changed but the only unchanged factor is people still love going to the theatre and watch a film that is entertaining.

pure family drama that has emotion, comedy, and everything that we have grown up watching in a Karan Johar film!” While Karan Johar’s earlier film ‘Shershaah’ received immense love from the audience and critics after its direct OTT release, according to Varun, Karan has faith in ‘Jugjugg Jeeyo’ and the makers believe that the film deserves a theatrical release.

‘The Bad Guys’: Fun-filled and crazy despite being predictable

46

Duration: 100 minutes Director: Pierre Perifel Voice Cast: Richard Ayoade, Alex Borstein, Lilly Singh, Sam Rockwell, Marc Maron, Craig Robinson, Anthony Ramos, Awkwafina, Zazie Beetz Rating: ***

T

he Bad Guys is an animated, high-octane, fun-filled heist thriller based on The New York Times best-selling series of children’s books by Aaron Blabey. Set in Los Angeles, where humans and anthropomorphic animals co-exist, the story revolves around the world’s most-wanted villains aka “The Bad Guys”, who are projected- as a group of friendly, loveable criminals. They set out to correct the perception people have about them.

They are; Mr. Wolf (Sam Rockwell), a witty and charming petty thief who specialises in pickpocketing, he is also the leader of the tribe; Mr. Snake (Marc Maron) is a sarcastic and cynical expert in cracking safes, and Wolf’s second-in-command and best friend; Mr. Piranha (Anthony Ramos) the youngest of the lot is a short-tempered brute; Mr. Shark (Craig Robinson) is a childish and sensitive master of disguises; Ms. Tarantula (Awkwafina) is the only female member of the gang and is an expert hacker, she is also known as, “webs” or “Mata Hairy”.

www.entertainmentmagazine.ca

This gang of five, typical in their demeanour is legendary for the city’s countless heists. They are the number-one target of Diane (Zazie Beetz), the canny fox governor, and Luggins (Alex Borstein), the human chief of police. When their luck finally runs out and the gang is finally caught, they face jail time. Mr. Wolf brokers a deal on the advice of his mentor Professor Marmalade (Richard Ayoade), an arrogant but adorable guinea pig, to use their sly skills for doing good in society.

July 2022

Along the way, Mr. Wolf begins to suspect that doing good for real, may give him what he always secretly longed for, acceptance. So, when a new villain threatens the city, how Mr. Wolf persuades the rest of his gang to become ‘The Good Guys’ sets the ball rolling for a happily chaotic, highly involved narrative that leads them through a gambit of twists that are both predictable and enjoyable. The characters against the eye-popping backgrounds and action are captivating enough to entertain audiences of all ages. Packed with double and triple crosses; the plot blends technical heist gags, car chase scenes, and buddy road trip elements to complicate the narrative into a wild and crazy experience. The story has great dynamism despite taking references from classic films. The film with its fun atmosphere and breezy pacing manages to have its own identity, and as if this were not enough, it has emotional messages about friendships too. Overall, the 2D and 3D animations are neat, and they merge effortlessly with the colour palette making the film appear quite fresh and exciting. By: IANSLife

raneet Akilla graduated with an engineering degree from McGill before setting that aside to pursue a lifelong passion for acting. It wasn’t an easy decision, but he has never looked back. Praneet says, “The journey into acting was not easy but I always knew that I wanted to do it. I mean, growing up in a South Asian household, specifically an immigrant household, you come

Now, after successfully making a mark in the entertainment industry through his acting, the actor who was born in India and raised in Calgary is now starring in the CBC series SkyMed. SkyMed is produced by Piazza Entertainment in association with CBC, Paramount+ and CBS Studios and will make its world premiere on Sunday, July 10 at 9 p.m. (9:30 p.m. NT) on CBC TV and will also be available to watch on the free CBC Gem streaming service. The series was filmed in Northern Manitoba and Ontario during fall 2021 / winter 20212022. South Asian Entertainment Magazine got to know a little more about Praneet’s upcoming stint as Jay Chopra in an interview. Below are the excerpts from the conversation:

>>

How would you introduce the character you play to viewers? A First Officer pilot with North Air, Jay “Chopper” Chopra’s got a big brain and a bigger heart. He’s an engineer also so he’s a bit of a geek, and a little socially inept. He is like everybody’s little brother. He flies the medevac SkyMed 911 for

What do you like about that character? He’s incredibly loving and caring. He’s willing to go out of his way to use his expertise to help those in need. He’s also really funny – both intentionally but mostly unintentionally – when it comes to his social life, but that’s what makes him so endearing. What challenges your character most in the story? He always puts the needs of those around him first. By nature, that’s who he is. However his experiences in Thompson force him to confront the failed marriage in his past, the disappointment his parents feel about leaving engineering and becoming a pilot in remote Canada, and recognizing that time will quickly run out if he doesn’t start seizing the moment and looking out for himself and what he wants too. Do you feel like you bring a little of yourself to your character? I feel like Chopper is literally me. I don’t know if the writers planned it that way, but I’m an engineer just like him. We both wear an iron ring (a ring given to engineering graduates in Canada). We both are a little awkward in our social lives, but we both are filled with hope and love for humanity. I’m a huge nerd in my real life and Chopper is the exact same way. Are there any traits you share with your character? We share the same general anxiety and worry we have about others. We both are engineers and are competent (well at least I think so) at our jobs. We both are shy and awkward in social circumstances. We both love our family and friends deeply.

Personal Fun Facts First job: Cleaning computer labs in high schools shut down for the summer. Fondest memory: Vacationing in Europe with my family. Indulgence: Various cheat meals - pizza and burgers. Inspiration: My storytelling heroes - Christopher Nolan, Quentin Tarantino and Dennis Villeneuve, but most importantly my parents. They’re the hardest workers I know and they gave me the love and enthusiasm for storytelling that I have. Motto: Focus on what you can control. Greatest accomplishment: Doing what I love for a living and being a good son/partner to my family and my loved ones. Vices: Carbs and sugar (bubble tea, pizza). I’m also really obsessive and over think every little thing to the nth degree. Personal style: Casual/athletic. Pet peeves: 1. When red tape and bureaucracy get in the way of simple things. 2. Obnoxious people who lack self-awareness. Superstitions: Before I start a new job or go on a new adventure I pretend I’m gathering all the negative garbage around me and throw it behind my back. (Weird I know.) First kiss story summed up in three words: School. Musical. Jasmine.

Person you would most want to meet and why? If given a chance, I would love to meet my great grandfather. He worked for the British King in my home state in India and was, by all accounts, the first artist in my family. I want to get to know him and understand what drove him, his life experiences and what his passions were. I always feel a weird connection to him, like I’m his reincarnation or something. I wouldn’t be caught dead wearing: Jorts. Do you cook? If so, what is your specialty? I cook! My specialty is Indo-Chinese fried rice. I’m actually really good at making Indo-Chinese fusion cuisine.

Three things people don’t know about you: 1. I love hot sauce - I will put it on anything and will gladly go on the show “Hot Ones” to prove myself. 2. I’m a big musical theatre nerd. I’ve been performing in musicals since I was a kid and would love to keep doing more. 3. I’m a popcorn connoisseur. I love it so much that I have analyzed popcorn at many events, theatres and stadiums to compile a list of favorite popcorn places in North America. List any rituals you may have when prepping for an audition/key scene: Repetition. I walk around saying the words out loud thousands of times so it’s ingrained within my body. That way I don’t have to think about what the next line is, I can focus on the character and what they want in the scene. The first thing I do in the morning is: Brush my teeth in the shower. The last thing I do before I go to bed at night is: This is bad I know... but I’m usually sending out emails on my laptop. Describe yourself in three words: Curious. Persistent. Inspired.

How much did you know about the work that young nurses and pilots do flying air ambulances in Northern Canada? I did not know much at all. I knew that emergency medevac crews existed but I only found out more when I did my research after I got the part. What surprised me is how dangerous it can be and how young some of these nurses and pilots are. What is it about the show that audiences will love to discover? It’s a part of the world they don’t usually see. What they will also love is how they can relate to the main characters that all moved to remote Canada to run away from something or to go find themselves. They will also love the emergencies in each episode. Though dramatized, they will love how the characters all work together to solve problems. It’s

Describe a typical day on set during production. Being on set for this show is an absolute blast. First, I travel with our big ensemble 49 cast in a van to set (this is where most of our bonding happened). Then we get into hair and make-up. I usually do some warm up exercises in my trailer. Then we go and block the scene with the director, producers and crew. We get mic’d and we get ready to shoot. In between all this craziness is where the real fun is. Collaborating with the director, producers and cast to figure out scene intentionality, different choices we can play and have fun with, and just simply get to know each other. Everyone in the cast and crew became fast friends. What did you find challenging working on set? I didn’t particularly find it super challenging. I was grateful to have a lead role in a really well-written series and then getting to inhabit the realities of my character and play him on incredible, large, expansive sets and location was a dream. If anything, since we shot on location a lot in Manitoba, it got very cold. Trying to act when you’re super cold isn’t fun. What did you enjoy about working on set? Bonding with my fellow cast mates, crew and creative team. The fun of the experience of shooting really came from all of us being passionate about telling this story but also having fun with each other in doing so. That’s what really matters to me at least.

Three things you can’t live without: 1. My beautiful girlfriend (soon to be fiancée). 2. Live theatre/movie theatres. 3. Food.

What can you tell us about SkyMed? SkyMed is ‘Top Gun’ meets ‘Grey’s Anatomy’. It’s a non- traditional medical procedural with a ton of action – particularly in showcasing high stakes rescue operations that are conducted by pilots and nurses working together. It’s a show that showcases remote parts of Canada that the world never gets to see. Its characters are well developed and their storylines are moving. The show also focuses on the various indigenous communities in Northern Canada, the inequity they live through, and several Indigenous characters reconnecting with their roots and reclaiming their native land. This isn’t shown in many shows.

also really funny and endearing.

The best part of my job is: Getting to inhabit characters and universes and play pretend like we used to as children. On top of that getting paid to do it?! I thank my lucky stars for it every single day.

What is it about your character that audiences will love to discover? At the beginning it seems like Chopper is a perfect character who is good at everything and has no flaws. What they will love to discover is how relatable his character arc is. On the outside it seems like he has it all, on the inside he’s conflicted because he goes from a person who has done everything by the book and lived for what those around him want. Eventually on that journey there comes a time where you have to look out for yourself and really ask yourself what you want? That’s what the audiences will love to discover.

Verstappen holds off charging Sainz to win F1 Canadian GP Red Bull’s Max Verstappen held off a late charge from Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz to take his sixth win of the 2022 Formula 1 season in the Canadian Grand Prix.

S

the Dutchman now has 175 points. Perez remains second with 129, but Leclerc has closed up to the Mexican with 126 points.

However, a late-race Safety Car deployment to clear Yuki Tsunoda’s stricken AlphaTauri allowed Sainz to close right up to Verstappen’s gearbox, and when racing resumed on Lap 54, it seemed as if the Ferrari would be in a good position to attack, Xinhua reported.

The next round of the 2022 F1 World Championship is the British Grand Prix at Silverstone on July 3.

“The Safety Car didn’t help. Overall, (Ferrari) were very quick in the race, so it would have been really tough for me to close that gap at the end even on fresher tyres,” said Verstappen. “But it was really exciting at the end -- I was giving it everything I had and, of course, Carlos was doing the same. I could see he was pushing and charging. The last few laps were a lot of fun. Luckily, this year, we seem really quick on the straights so that helps a lot.” Behind the top two, Lewis Hamilton took the final podium position on Mercedes’ most competitive Sunday of the season so far.

Hamilton’s teammate George Russell finished fourth, ahead of Sainz’s teammate Charles Leclerc, who salvaged fifth place after starting 19th following penalties for excessive component usage, and whose progress was helped by the late Safety Car. Alpine’s Esteban Ocon took sixth place, ahead of Valtteri Bottas in his Alfa Romeo. Behind Bottas was the other Alfa of Zhou Guanyu, who scored his best-ever finish in F1 with eighth place. Ocon’s teammate Fernando Alonso had crossed the line in seventh but was demoted to ninth after receiving a five-second penalty for excessive weaving as he defended his position. Having qualified on the front row alongside Verstappen, the Spaniard may be disappointed with his final position. Aston Martin’s Lance Stroll rounded out the top ten at his home race. In addition to Tsunoda, the other two cars to fail to see the chequered flag were Red Bull’s Sergio Perez and the Haas of Mick Schumacher, both of whom pulled off with mechanical issues. Though Sainz was able to use DRS to close up to Verstappen down the back straight at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, the Dutchman always eked out enough of an advantage around the other side of the track to keep Sainz at bay, and held on to take his fifth win in the last six Grands Prix of 2022.

In the Constructors’ Championship, Red Bull still lead and now have 304 points. Ferrari stay second with 228, and Mercedes remain third with 188 points.

This is time to plant a creative seed-you are inspired with a new project or plan. This is a strong time for romance. Negotiations run smoothly, charm works, and a positive connection can be made with a person of a markedly different background than you.

Leo (Jul 23 - August 23)

This is an especially introspective cycle during which you have the chance to truly uncover your personal strengths and talents. On a more practical level, you may be dealing with joint finances and shared resources now more than usual. It’s time to carve your own path in life.

Sagittarius (November 23 - December 21)

It’s time to do something selfexpressive, fun, and creative. You could feel an overwhelming need to pour your heart out to a lover, or a romantic affair reaches some sort of epiphany. There could be a whirlwind of activity surrounding your child or children.

Taurus

(April 21- March 20)

You’re feeling brave, independent, and eager to begin new projects. There is much initiative now, with personal involvement in new ventures or undertakings. You are striving for independence and freedom of movement in everyday affairs. The key now is not overstating yourself.

Virgo (Aug 23-Sep 23)

Gemini

(May 21-Jun 21)

You may enjoy key opportunity periods that boost your self-confidence, and do wonders for your ego and your relationships, particularly if your relationships or your own confidence in the way you present yourself to others is in need of healing. New financial initiatives are best avoided however.

Libra (September 24- October 23)

You have presence and you project confidence. You are in the position to make an impression on others, and to assert your personal influence beyond its normal boundaries. Spontaneity of expression is what this transit is about. A renewed feeling of confidence is with you now.

Your disposition is more intellectual than usual now, and self-expression comes easy. You are sharper than usual--more observant, and more inclined to “live in the head”. Relationships with siblings, neighbours, classmates, and casual friends may become more prominent in your life now.

Capricorn

Aquarius

( December 22 - January 20)

Your focus is on making contacts and reaching out to others in both social and professional sense. It’s a time to turn inner restlessness into fruitful contact with others. The flowing, expressive, and spontaneous energy surrounding you attracts like-minded and hearted people.

(January 21 - February 18)

This month, your focus is on balancing time between your career and your social agenda. You might draw upon your executive ability now. It’s a busy month for business and work; at the same time, socializing and romance also figure prominently. Love matters are mostly easy and amiable.

Cancer (Jun 22- July 22)

This is a time when you let loose your softer, receptive side. Romantic matters, as well as pleasure-seeking activities, come to the fore now. You are more likely to pay closer attention to your physical appearance and mannerisms, aiming to improve and enhance your attractiveness.

Scorpio (Octo. 24-Nov. 22)

Enthusiasm and confidence are with you now, and it’s easy to tap into your more unique qualities and talents in order to go after what we want. This is a time to do what you can to build trust in your family life and a strong foundation within yourself.

Pisces (February 19 March 20)

Your magnetism revolves around mysterious fascination rather than outgoing charm. Intensity appeals in your relationships. This can also be a time in which you discover untapped resources or talents. It is a good time to work out money problems or other issues of sharing with a partner.
