The Dept. of Architecture, University of Malaya is seeing its first course with the Vertical Integrated Approach (VIA), combining BIA3008 Culture & Context involving third year BSc. Architecture students, and BAGS6315 Architectural Comparative Studies involving first year M. Architecture students.
BIA3008-BAGS6315 involve studies on culture and context and how it shapes the architecture in cities. This course involves investigating study cases local and abroad to inform students about significant cultural and social aspects of a place, as well as the architecture and its contextual influences. In teams of six to seven, students are required to produce a study report on the findings in two parts; Part 1 encompassing the culture and context studies for BIA3008, and Part 2 comprising of the comparative analysis for BAGS6315.
With our team’s study report titled “Reflections of Shanghai”, the aim of our team is to reflect on the unique experience of Shanghai, where East meets West and old meets new.
