Welcome to Sundance Mountain Resort— a place for recreation, for reflection, for reverence. A place where you can ski a stunning slope, savor a bite with a view, patronize the performing arts, try your hand at a pottery wheel, feel the mist of an alpine waterfall, or sink into a soothing warm pool in the woods. Here, whatever activities fill your day, the real impact is in what this place does for you— where your body, mind, spirit, and creativity connect and take root. Come on in and play a while.

The Land Sundance Mountain Resort is located at the base of 12,000-foot Mount Timpanogos, in Provo Canyon, Utah. The 2,600 acre resort includes 1,862 acres of land preserved through a conservation easement and restrictive covenants, including the 316 acre Redford Family Elk Meadows Preserve.

Nature benefits our heart and mind, our body and spirit. At Sundance Mountain Resort, well-being and creativity are tied to the land. Every experience here is rooted in sustaining the whole person.

This place offers the physical and mental open space to explore, discover, relax, create, and find (or lose) yourself. Here, the experiences you seek await you. And we’re committed to helping you find them.

The North Fork creek flows throughout the resort to the North Fork of the Provo River. Stewart Falls is nestled within the protected wilderness. Snowmelt and precipitation sustain the land. Water is life.

We acknowledge that this land is the ancestral home of the Noohchew Ute People and the other tribes of Utah, the Shoshone, Paiute, Goshute and Navajo. We recognize and respect the enduring relationship that exists between many Indigenous peoples and their traditional homelands. We appreciate their stewardship and aspire to preserve and conserve the land we now know as Sundance Mountain Resort.

All nature is doing her best each moment to make us well— she exists for no other end. Do not resist her. Henry David Thoreau

The Sundance MOUNTAIN RESORT story 300 Million Years Ago

The Mountain and Canyon Sundance Mountain Resort is located within the Wasatch Mountain Range, seated in a valley between Mount Timpanogos to the west and the North Fork Ridge in the north east. Mount Timpanogos—the second highest peak of the Wasatch Range—rises to an elevation of 11,752 feet (3,582 meters) above sea level. “Timp” is comprised of rocks formed 300 million years ago when most of central North America was submerged under a shallow sea. Provo Canyon runs between Mount Timpanogos on the north and Mount Cascade on the south. Through forces of erosion, the Provo River has carved out the canyon over time. Up to the 1900s

The Ute People The Noohchew Ute People called the mountains throughout Utah and Colorado home. Their lands were rich with fish and game. The Toompahnahwach (Mouth of the Headwaters) Ute Band resided in the Wasatch Mountains. The Utes had great fisheries in what is called Utah Lake today. Most Noohchew spent the summer on the mountain tops and the winter in the lower lands. Provo Canyon, Provo River, and Mount Timpanogos would have been both beautiful and fruitful homes.

1899–1969

The STEWART FAMILY The Stewarts, a family of Scottish immigrants, homesteaded about 2,200 acres at the turn of the 20th century. In 1944, the second generation of Stewarts developed the mountain into a small ski resort called Timp Haven. 1969–2020

The REDFORD FAMILY In 1969, Robert Redford began to acquire the land now known as Sundance Mountain Resort and envisioned the careful growth of a community that balanced art, nature, and recreation. Redford wanted “to develop a little and preserve a great deal.” Sundance Mountain Resort is rooted in environmental conservation and artistic experimentation. Today

Sundance Mountain Resort As our story continues, we evolve with a renewed appreciation of the land and our ongoing commitment to unspoiled and authentic experiences where art, nature, and community unite to inspire people, voices, and ideas.

The Inn

Back Mountain Terrain Expansion

In the heart of the Resort Village, with the soul of the mountains and a river running through it—the new Inn at Sundance Mountain Resort offers ski-in/ski-out accommodations in winter and breathtaking slopeside views year-round. The Inn makes guests feel right at home with rustic luxury and a good helping of artful charm.

We’re thrilled to welcome 60 more acres into your ski day this winter, including three new bowls and a new 1,800-vertical foot ridge run, Storyteller, that pairs impeccable corduroy with expansive views.

Sitting in harmony with nature, The Inn is nestled among the village trees and spans two sides of the canyon stream, maintaining unimpeded flow. And, as distinctive as the hotel’s interiors may be, the most beautiful thing about it is the towering mountain ridges guests can gaze at from their room windows or the wrap-around porch.

Mountain Camp With the recent completion of Mountain Camp Day Lodge adjacent to Jake’s lift near the expanded parking lots, the day skier experience is streamlined, reducing crowds at the base. A permanent home for our Snowsports School serves all resort guests.

8

Electric Horseman A new detachable quad chairlift will debut for winter 26/27 on the back mountain, allowing 100% of our terrain to be accessible from high-speed lifts. An additional 105 acres of terrain will open with the addition of Electric Horseman.

And as a member of the NSAA Sustainable Slopes program, we join a ski community united in a formal commitment to environmental sustainability. We set aside 1% of all resort revenue for the environment, education, and the arts in the immediate areas and communities around Sundance Mountain Resort. For the Land

The Power of Storytelling

Global Climate, Local Solutions

Stewardship

Issues of global climate change are pressing concerns here on the south east slope of Mount Timpanogos—extreme weather, air and water quality, deforestation and biodiversity. Like much of the American West, these have an impact on the air we breathe and the land on which we live, work, and play.

Over half of the 5,000 acres of land within the Sundance Community is protected from development, and under the care of Sundance Nature Alliance.

For alpine communities such as Sundance Mountain Resort, drought, shrinking snowpacks, and warmer winters are real challenges, not just recreational or economic concerns.

Sundance Nature Alliance Sundance Nature Alliance is an environmental nonprofit organization committed to protecting the land by igniting curiosity and inspiring residents and visitors to love, learn, and act to protect our natural world. By preserving, conserving, and restoring the water, land, and biodiversity within and beyond the resort, Sundance Nature Alliance is securing a future for our community of residents and visitors to find beauty, inspiration, and adventure in the great outdoors.

Throughout the land, we ensure the health of our watershed through monitoring and advocacy for the Provo River and support biodiversity by restoring ecosystems, establishing protected areas, and arresting habitat destruction.

programming Through our stewardship and programming, we bring people together with the land. Join us for one of our activities and become part of a community united by love for this land. We offer guided hikes and snowshoe tours, films and guest speakers, and other events throughout the year.

pines to Sundance village

To us, Sundance is and always will be a dream. What you see, smell, taste and feel here is a dream being carefully nurtured. It is an area whose pledge is to people. What we offer in the form of art, culture, spirit and service is homegrown and available to all. Robert Redford
