Welcome.

We believe in the natural world and this land. There is no greater balm for our humanity nor any equal for the beauty nature displays and inspires. Sundance provides abundant proof. We believe in the creative spirit. This is humanity’s greatest attribute and our way forward. It needs to be nurtured and inspired— Sundance affords both the physical and mental space for this work. We believe in coming together. Community gives us something greater than ourselves— connection, power, joy. Sundance gathers people for recreation and art, united by nature and its call.

From all of us at Sundance Mountain Resort.

The Land Sundance Mountain Resort is located at the base of 12,000-foot Mount Timpanogos, in Provo Canyon, Utah. The 2,600 acre resort includes 1,862 acres of land preserved through a conservation easement and restrictive covenants, including the 316 acre Redford Family Elk Meadows Preserve. bod+ irinitdS d X pm d n r s na a o heaeben Nart r t e5t o s

We acknowledge that this land is the ancestral home of the Noohchew Ute People and the other tribes of Utah, the Shoshone, Paiute, Goshute and Navajo. We recognize and respect the enduring relationship that exists between many Indigenous peoples and their traditional homelands. We appreciate their stewardship and aspire to preserve and conserve the land we now know as Sundance Mountain Resort. The Sundance story 300 Million Years Ago

The Mountain and Canyon Sundance Mountain Resort is located within the Wasatch Mountain Range, seated in a valley between Mount Timpanogos to the west and the North Fork Ridge in the north east. Mount Timpanogos—the second highest peak of the Wasatch Range—rises to an elevation of 11,752 feet (3,582 meters) above sea level. “Timp” is comprised of rocks formed 300 million years ago when most of central North America was submerged under a shallow sea. Provo Canyon runs between Mount Timpanogos on the north and Mount Cascade on the south. Through forces of erosion, the Provo River has carved out the canyon over time.

1899–1969

The STEWART FAMILY The Stewarts, a family of Scottish immigrants, homesteaded about 2,200 acres at the turn of the 20th century. In 1944, the second generation of Stewarts developed the mountain into a small ski resort called Timp Haven. 1969–2020

Up to the 1900s

The Ute People The Noohchew Ute People called the mountains throughout Utah and Colorado home. Their lands were rich with fish and game. The Toompahnahwach (Mouth of the Headwaters) Ute Band resided in the Wasatch Mountains. The Utes had great fisheries in what is called Utah Lake today. Most Noohchew spent the summer on the mountain tops and the winter in the lower lands. Provo Canyon, Provo River, and Mount Timpanogos would have been both beautiful and fruitful homes.

The REDFORD FAMILY In 1969, Robert Redford began to acquire the land now known as Sundance Mountain Resort and envisioned the careful growth of a community that balanced art, nature, and recreation. Redford wanted “to develop a little and preserve a great deal.” Sundance Mountain Resort is rooted in environmental conservation and artistic experimentation. Today

Sundance Mountain Resort As our story continues, we evolve with a renewed appreciation of the land and our ongoing commitment to unspoiled and authentic experiences where art, nature, and community unite to inspire people, voices, and ideas. 7

Mom kept up with the kids, but I’m always catching up on my snowboard. Back to our favorite runs for the afternoon—— Bearclaw, Wild Flower, Bishop’s Bowl, Maverick, and for me, Stampede. Can’t wait to come back tomorrow, although Mom is thinking she might want to check out an art studio class. Late afternoon: Aprés ski at the Owl Bar. Evening: We went back to grab the kids for our full moon snowshoe adventure at the Nordic Center. I know, the never ending amazing day. A totally different experience exploring the wooded trails by the light of the moon——we even saw elk, fantastic.

Summer Story: IRA Breakfast: I’m an early riser, so I took the foot path from Mandan to The Deli and grabbed coffees and morning buns for everyone. Nice to have some time on my own before meeting up with my crew for our day of action adventure.

Morning: We took the Outlaw Express to Mandan Summit——whoever said “it’s not the destination, it’s the journey” got it right. But Mountaintop Yoga was more than worthy of the trip up—— incredible workout with inspiring views of Mount Timpanogos and the surrounding valley. We left the mountain both centered and pumped. Ready for more.

Late morning/Early afternoon: Off the mountain, we made our way to the horse stables for a guided ride on the Stewart Falls trail. Our trek to the falls included unparalleled views of the Wasatch Mountains and Mount Timpanogos, he t Gil enion m t d6o o t Ger ton s blooming. I’m an avid hiker, but being on horseback got my eyes off the trail ahead of me and on the world all around me.

Late afternoon: From a horseback ride to a thrill ride on the Sundance ZipTour. After a training session, we headed back up the Outlaw Express for the Maverick Tour. We soared above the trees for almost a mile but it went by fast! I’m hooked. Next time, I’ll come back for the full Bearclaw Tour and the Full Moon Tour!

After our ride, we grabbed burgers and tacos from the food truck and ate out under the shade at the picnic tables.

Dinner/Evening: Back at our rooms we showered and rested. And out again to the Amphitheater for barbecue and Bluebird Cafe with Nashville singers and songwriters. I’ll never forget this feeling of a warm summer evening after a day of exertion, listening to live music and the stories behind the songs, relaxing on a lawn with my best friends. Fall Story: Stella Morning: Mom and I woke up early to join the complimentary morning meditation class at 7:30am. It was brisk outside, refreshing and invigorating! After nourishing our spirits, we went to the Spa to nourish our bodies. Mom was glowing after her Spirit of the Mountain Hydration treatment. The River Flow Massage released months of tension in my muscles. Both of us loved the products and signature scents. We returned to our rooms and just read on our deck for the rest of the morning. I haven’t been this relaxed since forever. Early Lunch: Wanting to extend our relaxation, we ordered in-room delivery from The Foundry Grill. We split the turkey club and also ordered the charcuterie to bring along on our afternoon hike.

In addition to our efforts on property, we set aside 1% of all resort revenue for the environment, education, and the arts in the immediate areas and communities around Sundance Mountain Resort.

The most pressing issues of global climate change are of great concern here at Sundance Mountain Resort—air and water quality, deforestation and biodiversity, drought and wildfires.

The funds go to non-profits like the Sundance Preserve and to fund projects addressing environmental issues and promoting stewardship in Provo Canyon.

Like much of the American West, wildfires impact the land we hike and the air we breathe. For alpine communities like Sundance Mountain Resort, drought, shrinking snowpacks, and warmer winters are existential challenges, not just recreational or economic concerns.

Thank You When you stay here with us, dine at our restaurants, shop at our stores, and engage in our programming, you are an integral partner in stewarding our land and promoting the arts here at the resort and in Provo Canyon. We appreciate your support!

By protecting our winters here in Provo Canyon, we’re addressing global climate impacts on lives and livelihoods. By conserving and preserving the lands within and beyond our resort, we’re securing a future for our community of guests and residents to find beauty, inspiration, and adventure in the great outdoors. By investing in our environment and facilitating stewardship, we’re protecting the myriad species and natural features that make Provo Canyon our home.

To us, Sundance is and always will be a dream. What you see, smell, taste and feel here is a dream being carefully nurtured. It is an area whose pledge is to people. What we offer in the form of art, culture, spirit and service is homegrown and available to all. Robert Redford
