International Fraud Awareness Week is November 15 – 21. But we want you to be aware of fraud all year long! Scammers have been using payment apps like Cash App, Zelle, Paypal and similar to trick people into becoming money mules.
They might claim they can help you make some easy money or pretend to be working on behalf of a charity. No matter what story they tell you, the bottom line is that you should not accept money or move money for someone you don’t know.
While the particulars may vary, here’s how the scam works. A stranger reaches out to you using social media or email. This person will use tricky tactics to try to get you to move money for them.
Be vigilant so you don’t unintentionally get involved in money laundering. For more tips on how to avoid fraud, follow Suncoast on social media or visit suncoastcreditunion.com/blog.
