Title: Bob Badda in snow, Roslyn, Wa circa 1930s Description: Bundled head-to-toe, Bob Badda on the left with an unidentified boy, play in the snow on Third Street above downtown Roslyn. Old City Hall can be seen directly behind Bob and further left - the houses lining “Company Row” on the east end of Pennsylvania Ave. The boys would have walked to Roslyn Elementary School on Second Street and Idaho Ave., regardless the weather. Bob's leather high-top boots were a Roslyn staple that had been popular since the 1920s. Children wore them for snow boots; men wore a larger version down in the mines.

Verna Matielli’s father, “K.O.” Lund, with his milk delivery sleigh after the the 1916 snowstorm. Six years earlier, K.O. and his wife, Sena, had started dairying on 160 acres on Fowler Creek, about five miles southwest of Cle Elum. Deliveries were usually made by horse-drawn sleigh during the winter, but the February 1916 snow storm paralyzed the region for days. K.O.’s daughter, Verna, remembered her father cutting steps in the snow so he could crawl out of their cabin to milk the cows. K.O. then wallowed through two miles of deep snow to the Anderson farm, harnessed two teams of horses and with the Anderson boys spent three days breaking a trail to Cle Elum. Lund was back in business delivering milk on the fourth, satisfied that he beat his competitor, Mr. Whiteman. Whiteman had predicted, “Well you won’t see Lund until spring,” and was chagrined when he learned Lund had beat him into town by one full day (Fassero, Pete. NKC Tribune 12 April 1981; “Kearnel and Sena (Lee) Lund, Kittitas County History, p. 386).
