Asset Management
Experience has shown us that many Emergency Service providers have very limited, or no records whatsoever of their property assets, leading to potential issues when it comes to redesigning or refurbishing said premises to meet today’s demanding operational and compliance needs.
In addition, this lack of information can lead to unforeseen conflicts with Health & Safety legislation, planning provisions and accessibility requirements.
SUMO can help you to get the best out of your property assets through the provision of topographic maps of the surrounding land and car parks, detailed building and floor plans, and locating and identifying the utility services connected to the property.
What’s more, SUMO can provide this data in 2D or 3D format, including visualisations and fly-through animations tailored to meet your specific requirements. These tools not only help you in ensuring compliance but also enable clearer communication during the planning and design stages of your development projects, helping you streamline activities and mitigate risks.

SUMO SPECIALIST SECTORS
Forensic Services
The nature of the work carried out by the Emergency Service providers and the likelihood of their findings being subject to public scrutiny and / or being of critical importance in associated court proceedings, generates a demand for highly accurate and specialised survey data.
To meet this demand, SUMO uses laser scanning and drone equipment which capture precise spatial information, plus photogrammetric images of the site, which can be used post-event, to analyse the site and permanently record the incident.
Using these techniques, SUMO can quickly generate a 3D point cloud which can be interrogated time and again, without the need to revisit the site, the output from which can be used in official investigative reports.

Secure Facilities
The majority of the property assets owned and managed by the Emergency Services are secure sites, with limited public access and SUMO is experienced in working on such sites, whilst respecting the operational needs of the personnel going about their daily activities.
To date, SUMO’s staff have worked on Police, Fire, Hospital, Prison, Rail, MoD, MoJ and Government premises, including high-profile / high-security areas. To do this, SUMO’s staff hold appropriate security clearances, including Enhanced DBS, BPSS, NPPV, SC, CTC and PTS.
SUMO also works with its Emergency Services clients to agree an individual protocol for storing, managing and transferring any data collected, which can include a dedicated secure server, with no external connections, where appropriate.

3D Modelling
SUMO offers a comprehensive 3D modelling service including the creation of site visualisations and building models suitable for fire and emergency simulations.
Our technical expertise results in highly accurate, life-like 3D models, from small objects, to large buildings and structures. 3D modelling can be undertaken on any existing or proposed structures, objects or organic surfaces and can be simple or highly detailed and comprehensive, depending on your budget and requirements.
We can provide 3D solid, surface, mesh, or wireframe models, provided as CAD / NURBS or polygon mesh surfaces in a variety of popular and leading formats to suit your requirements. Our team can also create 3D models from 3D laser scanned point cloud data, 2D CAD drawings or survey data

Drone Surveys
SUMO UAS drone services can survey areas which may be impractical to access or costly to survey with conventional technology. This includes complex internal surveys, confined spaces, roofs and high buildings (removing the need for costly scaffolding or elevating work platforms), as well as large landscapes.
With CAA Permission for Commercial Operation (PfCO), we can obtain the correct permissions to ensure all SUMO aerial surveys are commissioned safely, rapidly and legally, wherever your site is located. SUMO’s UAS drone services are also covered by comprehensive insurance, giving you peace of mind.
SUMO can produce outputs of photography, photogrammetry video and thermal imagery, all suitable for use in official investigative reports.

Geophysics
SUMO applies a range of non-invasive geophysical techniques to investigate the properties of a site including the surrounding land, and any buildings present thereon, including the floors and walls.
Using these techniques SUMO can help to detect unseen features, such as buried objects, hidden cellars, vaults and tunnels and voids in floors and walls.
SUMO uses a range of Ground Penetrating Radar systems operating at different frequencies dependent upon the site conditions / structures to be surveyed. The results of this high-resolution technique provide depth information and enables the data to be analysed and presented in detailed drawings including plan or section views.

SURVEY SOLUTIONS
Laser Scanning
SUMO utilises a range of different laser scanners to meet the individual requirements of each assignment, across a wide range of applications and environments.
Using these laser scanners SUMO can quickly capture highly accurate rich data (a Point Cloud) for the entire site, in one visit, thereby minimising our impact upon the site.
Having collected this data, SUMO can then interrogate and process the data to produce simple 2D drawings, complex 3D Models, ortho-images and fly-through-animations as required. The retention of the Point Cloud data also enables us to ‘revisit’ the site information at a later date, should further analysis prove necessary following your investigations.
SUMO PRIDES ITSELF ON DELIVERING SURVEY DATA THAT IS CLEAR & ACCURATE

Measured Building Surveys
SUMO measured building survey projects range from small single buildings, to large commercial and industrial facilities, including heritage sites.
These measured building surveys enable our clients to fully understand the size, area and layout of their properties, as well as visualising the building and its immediate environment.
With outputs from 2D plans, sections & elevations, to full 3D BIM Ready Models and 3D visualisations delivered in Revit, our experienced staff can recommend the right level of survey for your project. SURVEY

Photogrammetry
A SUMO photogrammetric survey enables rapid data capture using specialist cameras, where overlapping digital images are recorded which allow the collected survey data to be combined into one continuous image from which detailed measurements can be taken.
Photogrammetry can also be also used to create ortho-images and textured meshes, where the quality of the images and the true colours recorded can provide extra information that is hard to achieve from other survey techniques.
Finally, multispectral imagery can be used to detect changes in vegetation health due to differing levels of chlorophyll, which can be caused by buried materials, including graves. These images can then be used by 3rd parties who have not physically attended the site, to gain a better understanding of it.

Topographic
Topographic surveys are a fundamental component of land assessment, providing a detailed representation of the physical features and contours of a given area.
A SUMO topographic survey will capture and map both the natural and man-made features present on a site, including the contours of the land, trees, buildings, roads and pathways.
Using advanced technology (Robotic Total Stations, GPS, 3D laser scanners and UAS drones) and precise measurement techniques, our surveyors meticulously record the elevation, size, shape, and position of these elements, creating accurate and highly detailed maps, which can be issued in 2D and 3D formats.

Utility Detection
A SUMO utility detection survey is a crucial non-invasive process used to locate and identify the underground utilities and infrastructure connected to your property assets.
The primary goal of a utility detection survey is to accurately pinpoint the location, depth, and type of buried utilities to prevent damage, accidents, and service disruptions during refurbishment, construction or excavation projects, thereby minimising ‘down time’ and any associated impact on your operational needs.
The typical features detected by a SUMO utility survey include metal and plastic pipes, clay drainage systems, low and high voltage electricity cables, and data and fibre optic cables. The utility data recorded during the survey is then overlaid on a topographic drawing including identifiable surface features, thereby enabling you to locate and / or avoid each utility service as required.
