RETIRED BUT NOT RETIRING A poem for Summerset residents For the Day of the Older Person Let’s all band together and declare A day of Global Grey Visibility We are old, and most definitely here! We’ve seen your glance slide over us In shops, in cafes, on the bus. You ignore us at your peril Because now, there are more of us! As consumers, we are much more savvy At our age, we’ve all been around. It’s only our eyesight that is dim Speak up, but please don’t speak down. Like fine wines we’re aged to perfection, Like ripe cheeses, more tasty than mild Like vintage china we’re simply more classy Like the weather, we’re occasionally wild We can still touch those toes each day And they may not always be our own We’ve not gone completely to seed… We still have some wild oats unsown. Today we declare independence Fly the flag for the older generation We are here, we can’t hear, but we care! We are the Superannuation Nation!
