DESIGN/INSPIRATION ▸ The inspiration for our magazine design has come from the magazines, ‘Dazed’ and ‘Time’ magazine. The use of sans serif typography stands out to the audience and is eye catching. Celebrity endorsement is often used in these magazines, which conforms to magazine conventions. The use of celebrity endorsement sets the star/subject up as an opinion leader and also conforms to the Two-step theory, which explains that if an audience sees a person/celebrity they trust, then they will be compelled to consume the text. The subjects in ‘Dazed’ magazine are usually young adults, which is easy for the audience to identify the target audience for the product. The use of bright colours can be seen as childish, but combined with how the subject s constructed, communicates the transition from adolescence to young adulthood.

YOUTH. MAGAZINE

RATIONAL We are creating a youth culture magazine, as we are the ages as our intended audience. In the world, there are loads of young people with opinions, traditions and cultures and as this topic is something our group is passionate about. As we are the same ages as our target audience, this will help us, create a product that appeals to them. This magazine will be created to inform and entertain the audience about youth culture, lifestyle, health and beauty and music. This hybrid-genre magazine will maximise audiences and will use convergence to appeal to audiences that use different media platforms. This magazine will be both printed and available online. Extra articles and new stories will be uploaded to Youth. magazine’s social media accounts. This is so our audience will have fresh, new content in between issues.

FEASIBILITY ▸ This project will be easy to complete. The software we will be using (Adobe PhotoShop, InDesign and Illustrator) is available on the college computers, so will be easy to access. The editor (Sumayyah Bailey) has her own camera and laptop, so will be able to edit and photograph outside of lessons. Our photographer (Lolita Damsam) also has her own camera, so photoshoots will be easy to organise. Group meetings will occur outside of college, so organising and writing articles will be easy. Our group has a shared work folder where we collate work and edit each others work. This will make it easy to access work when we aren’t together. This project is funded by City & Islington college, so all equipment and software will be provided.

YOUTH. MAGAZINE

Advertising As we are a youth brand, we feel that it is only effective to advertise our product on youtube and other social media sites. We feel that going using conventional advertising techniques will be going against our brand.
