MEREDITH BROOKS ABBOTT AN EXHIBITION OF NEW PAINTINGS AT SULLIVAN GOSS
MEREDITH BROOKS ABBOTT AN EXHIBITION OF NEW PAINTINGS AT SULLIVAN GOSS OCTOBER 7, 2010 - JANUARY 2, 2011 White-washed adobe, red tile roofs, and painted tile have come to define Santa Barbara’s architecture. Eucalyptus, cypress and olive trees have come to define our arbors. Our mountains are known to be purple and our meadows are usually seen as gold. We grow a lot of nasturtiums, matilijas, roses and orchids. We grow lemons and oranges and avocados. We make and drink our share of wine. We take our time with anything pleasurable. Such is life in Santa Barbara.
For over thirty-five years, Meredith Brooks Abbott has celebrated the virtues of life in this, our secret
paradise. She has preserved what might be called the native style - plein air Impressionism. With beautiful color harmonies and a quick facile brush, she has done her part to define the Santa Barbara aesthetic. Indeed, her biography reads like a history of Santa Barbara art. She painted with Clarence Hinkle (1880-1960) and Douglass Parshall (1889-1990) and, in 1985, she helped found the Oak Group with legendary painter Ray Strong (1905-2006). Both the artist and the Gallery are pleased to invite you to Meredith’s first solo exhibition at Sullivan Goss.
