BOCES Assists Districts in Providing Required Life Safety & Fire Prevention Training Section 808 of State Education Law requires New York State schools to provide a minimum of 45 minutes of instruction in injury prevention and life safety education. This instruction has to be done throughout the school year for grades K-12, and may be provided as a special subject or integrated within content areas of the curriculum. To help you meet this requirement, the Sullivan BOCES Health & Safety Coser and Communications Coser created a monthly Life Safety & Fire Prevention newsletter that contains information that teachers can use as a guide to discuss various topics throughout the year. The newsletter also includes a poster/infographic that can be copied and handed out to students or displayed in the school. The information is obtained from various sources, including the National Safety Council, Safekids.org, NYS Office of Fire Prevention, the National Fire Protection Association, the US Consumer Product Safety Commission, and the American Red Cross.
