We recognize that Surrey is situated on the unceded traditional territories of the Coast Salish peoples, including the Katzie, Kwantlen, Semiahmoo, Kwikwetlem, Qayqayt, and Tsawwassen First Nations.

We also respectfully acknowledge the many other First Nations, Métis and Inuit peoples that are represented among Surrey's population, with Surrey being home to one of the largest urban Indigenous populations in British Columbia.

As we welcome 2025, I want to take a moment to reflect on the incredible journey we’ve shared and express my deepest gratitude for your unwavering support. This past year has been one of both challenge and progress, and it’s with a sense of pride and optimism that I look ahead to the opportunities 2025 holds for all of us in Surrey-Newton and beyond.

2024 was a year of significant achievements for our community, as well as for our country. The Canadian government has remained steadfast in its commitment to building a stronger, more inclusive nation. We made crucial strides in affordable housing, climate action, and economic recovery from the global pandemic. At the same time, we took meaningful steps towards addressing mental health, public safety, and support for first responders — including Canada’s recognition of Firefighter Cancer Awareness Month with the adoption of Bill C-224.

In Surrey-Newton, we saw continued investment in infrastructure and programs that directly benefit you the heart of our community. From youth mentorship programs, which provide guidance to young people in Surrey, to initiatives designed to assist our newcomers, we are creating an environment where everyone has the tools to succeed.

But there is still much work ahead of us, and I am more committed than ever to ensuring that 2025 is a year of even greater progress. Together, we will continue to focus on creating good-paying jobs, supporting small businesses, and investing in education to build an economy that works for everyone. The challenges we face whether in terms of affordability, healthcare, or ensuring equitable access to opportunities require a united effort, and I am proud to work alongside you all to achieve our shared goals.

As we look forward to the year ahead, I’m excited to continue listening to your concerns, collaborating on solutions, and working together to make Surrey-Newton and Canada stronger, safer, and more prosperous for everyone.
