C

ontemporary jazz, hot r&b, or smooth jazz - Maysa Leak is a smooth ride on a sea cruise looking into the eyes of life.

Bubbling, flowing and effervescent, there is nothing incognito about Maysa Leak, the former lead singer of British band, Incognito.

Maysa has been one of the most underrated powerhouse singers in decades. She makes audiences feel what she has to say. A woman in love (even if you ain’t): “It’s two a.m. and I

can’t sleep!” You know what she’s talking about.

This homegrown Baltimore home girl has expanded her touch to reach virtually across the globe. A Morgan State University alumni, Maysa has produced over 10 albums since her first (1995) self-titled release of “Maysa.”

This year is a milestone year for Ms. Leak, who will be celebrating 25 years in the industry as she reaches 50 years young in August.

Although now she’s all about being “A Woman in Love,” I’ve loved this jazzy, R&B, sultry, home girl of mine since she was in “Deep Water” --a story you’ll have to go and hear from her.

Her concerts are as upbeat and funky as they are smooth and romantic. Maysa will become one of those go-to CDs you drop in the deck on road trips.

Although the CD count stopped around fifteen, I can’t seem to get enough of this classically trained, diva songstress.

So now comes the perfect time and venue for you to put on your best romantic self and check out Ms. Maysa Leak, who will be romancing audiences at the iconic Howard Theatre this Valentine’s Day. Get out and allow Maysa to soothe your very soul.
