Taylor Recovery Center a beacon in the night The founders and staff Taylor Recover Centers know their purpose – to help heal the hurt in people’s lives and hearts. They live it, each day. And I got a firsthand look at that last month.

Co-founders Tom and Kristi Taylor, and general manager Court Nichols know from personal experience that the journey to recovery can be long, winding, and filled with potholes. And most of all, they believe it’s one that cannot be completed without someone by your side. And that’s where they enter the picture.

As I entered the facility to sit down with Nichols and discuss the ins and outs of Taylor Recovery Centers, I couldn’t help but overhear various conversations between staff and those I now know to be patients – whether they were entering for the first time, or walking out the doors for the final time, having completed their stay.

What I heard was not some technical speak, or hollow uplifting words. No, what I witnessed was the genuine warmth of a staff that becomes more than a worker. While I was there, Nichols himself – not just a staff worker – greeted multiple new patients with the same warmth and kindness with which I saw him

treat each person he came in contact with.

And that’s something the entire staff has in common. As Nichols would later explain to me, they become partners in someone’s journey to recovery.

Patients are not numbers, they’re no longer defined by what ails them when they walk through those doors.

The Taylors and Nichols know the road isn’t easy, and some dependencies will be easier to break than others. Their experiences breed that knowledge, and feeds their desire to be there every step of the journey. It’s exactly why they invest in each patient the way that they do.

I came away from the interview and this story with an incredible amount of respect for the work Taylor Recovery Centers does. They’ve been a beacon for so many in Houston, and now they’re striving to be that same light in Fort Bend County.

7 New Sections Spring Up in Aliana

From Staff Reports Seven new sections have opened in Aliana fueled by the strong demand for new homes in a top-selling master-planned community.

The new sections, priced from the $270,000s to the $900,000s, feature designs

by Ashton Woods, Coventry Homes, Highland Homes, J. Patrick Homes, Lennar, Meritage Homes, Partners in Building, Perry Homes, Plantation Homes and Village Builders.

“Buyers have more options than ever in Aliana,” said Linda Kilgore, Marketing Director with AIRIA Development, developer of Aliana.

The new sections have opened in response to the rapid growth of the community, which is already home to nearly 3,200 households, Kilgore said.

Builders in Aliana sold 430 new homes in 2018, ranking it fifth in the state in new home sales, according to real estate thinktanks Robert Charles Lesser & Co. and John Burns Real Estate Consulting.

In addition to the new sections, Aliana is also benefitting from an ever-increasing

The new Grand at Aliana, which is currently under development, will bring even more retail and services to the area.

“From healthcare to home goods, everything is at our residents’ fingertips,” Kilgore said. “It’s one of the many reasons buyers choose to live in Aliana.”

Residents also enjoy resort-style amenities such as two recreation complexes that each offer access to pools, fitness centers and tennis courts. Children attend schools in the highly rated Fort Bend Independent School District.

Aliana is located west of Houston in Richmond along the Grand Parkway between U.S. Highway 59 and Interstate 10.

NEW RETAIL CENTER PLANNED IN SUGAR LAND’S NEW TERRITORY From Staff Reports Residents of Sugar Land as well as the New Territory and Telfair master-planned communities could soon have a new retail center in their backyard.

According Brett Levinson, assistant vice president for Weitzman, the commercial real estate firm represents a client that intends to build a nearly 15,500 square-foot shopping center near the intersection of Highway 90 and Easton Avenue.

“We’re really trying to find what the void is in this area and see if we can go after filling it,” Levinson said.

Weitzman, which does project leasing, tenant representation, property management and development, also handles leasing for additional properties

Builders Unveil New Models for Heritage Park in Sienna Plantation From Staff Reports Seven builders will unveil 10 model homes in Sienna Plantation’s new Heritage Park neighborhood, accompanied by a grand opening “TexFest” in May. The new model home park will showcase designs by Chesmar Homes, Lennar, M/I Homes, Meritage Homes, Newmark Homes, Perry Homes and Westin Homes. Homes are priced from the low $200,000s to the mid $400,000s.

Both Newmark and Chesmar are opening multiple models in Heritage Park.

Newmark’s two models feature floor plans for homes situated on 45- and 50-foot homesites. Three model homes will highlight Chesmar’s designs for singlefamily homes built on 45-foot properties and townhomes designed for 28-foot homesites.

M/I Homes also will build on 45-foot homesites, while Lennar and Perry will join Newmark in offering homes on 50-foot properties. Westin and Meritage will offer larger homes on 60-foot homesites.

“All of the new model homes are spectacular,” said Alvin San Miguel, general manager of Sienna Plantation. “There are floor plans to fit every lifestyle and budget.

The grand opening celebration will be noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, May 18.

We believe that once buyers see what is available to them in the form of home designs and amenities, Sienna Plantation will be their first-choice.”

The public will get a chance to tour the new models during TexFest, a grand opening celebration taking place noon-4 p.m. Saturday, May 18, at the model home park, 8610 Azalea Crossing Court.

Activities will include a mini Ferris wheel and Dixie Twister chair swing, as well as stilt walkers, face painters and inflatables. A DJ will be on hand as well as nine food trucks

offering cuisine from around the world.

Heritage Park is projected to bring 600 homesites to Texas’ top-selling masterplanned community. Additionally, the neighborhood will add two parks to Sienna’s growing list of amenities, including a dog park at Heritage Park.

Currently, 15 builders have opened 21 model homes in Sienna Plantation, with pricing from the $250,000s to more than $1 million.

stay in the medical detox center – which always happens prior to beginning any treatment – they are transferred into Taylor’s on-site residential treatment program. Once there, patients are assigned to a primary therapist who helps construct a specifically-tailored treatment plan.

“What we’ve done is put together a holistic approach to treatment,” Nichols said.

Patients attend both daily group and individual sessions, meet with a psychiatrist and work through the causes of their addiction alongside a staff that includes three doctors, three psychiatrists, eight nurses, and multiple PhD-level counselors.

Taylor also provides activities such as acupuncture, art therapy, yoga, and meditation throughout the day, as they work to rejuvenate the mind, body, and soul.

In other words, Nichols and his staff strive to “treat the whole person” during

every step of their recovery journey, from intake to the day they re-enter their world.

Every man and woman walking through the doors, Nichols said, deserves the most concentrated efforts to help regain control of their lives.

“We’re looking for generalized anxiety disorders, major depressive disorders, imbalances, personality disorders – anything that makes people want to change the way they feel,” he said.

“Everybody recovers differently. Most people get addiction gradually, but some people get it in a flash. To really understand what someone is struggling with and understand the depths of their struggles takes a while – it’s a process.”

So while a typical stay at Taylor’s 32-patient Sugar Land location lasts about 45 days, Nichols said there’s no set in stone timetable. After all, who can put a timeframe on a person’s well-being?

It’s one thing to get somebody off of it, but it’s a process to teach someone how to live their life without it,” he said. “So we don’t put a time limit on it – it’s something that shouldn’t be rushed.”

Above all, those at Taylor Recovery Center are dedicated one mission alone – helping put back together the broken pieces of every life they touch. And while he praised wonderful programs such as Alcoholics Anonymous, Nichols said there

are some levels those meetings simply cannot reach. And that’s where Taylor Recovery Center enters.

“Almost everybody has somebody in their family who has suffered with addiction. It doesn’t affect just the addicted person, it affects everyone in that person’s life,” Nichols said. “We try to treat the whole person and bring them back so they can rejoin society and their families. There’s no shortage of people who are addicted to something. [Before AA can help,] there’s so many deeper-seated issues that need to be dealt with.”

MARCEL DISTRICT BREAKS GROUND IN SUGAR LAND From Staff Reports MARCEL, a privately owned, fully integrated commercial real estate firm based in The Woodlands, Texas, held its second “Groundbreaking for a Cause” event on May 14 to mark the official groundbreaking of Marcel District, a new mixed-use development with nearly 69,000 square feet of combined office and retail space located adjacent to Johnson Development’s Riverstone master-planned community in Sugar Land.
