Nehls brothers making power moves By now, many in Fort Bend County know the last name Nehls. Twin brothers Troy and Trever have comprised the heads of law enforcement in Fort Bend County for much of the last decade.

It’s a law enforcement family, with multiple generations attempting to serve their homes and their residents, with their father and another brother also serving in law enforcement. Now they’re both taking big steps toward bigger things – but their eyes remain squarely on Fort Bend County.

Troy has served as the Fort Bend County Sheriff since 2012 and previously served two terms as constable for Fort Bend County’s Precinct 4. Trever is currently serving his second term as Precinct 4 Constable after initially being elected in 2016.

However, Troy announced in early December that he would not seek another term as sheriff, but would throw his hat in the ring to replace the retiring Pete Olson in District 22 of the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington.

Meanwhile, Trever – currently overseas serving

in the U.S. Army Reserves – has launched a bid for the sheriff position his older brother will soon vacate.

Here’s the thing – there are always going to be those unhappy with the job being done by an elected officer or official. That’s a given considering very few elections are close to unanimous.

But it takes some serious physical and mental fortitude to deal with the daily grind of a profession that often lends itself to dangerous or precarious situations, especially in a place like Fort Bend that is constantly growing and evolving.

It’s obviously up to each individual to decide who can best represent Fort Bend County, and we’re not here to endorse either brother. But both brothers have been elected to multiple terms in their current positions, so it seems as though the people believe they are doing something right.

So inside today’s Business Journal, take a look for yourself at what the Nehls brothers have to offer both in Washington and on the home front.

Then decide for yourself if they’re worthy of your vote in the next election.

BUILDER DEVELOPING NEW NEIGHBORHOOD IN AREA From Staff Reports Prospective Fort Bend County homebuyers now have even greater selection of communities to choose from.

On Jan. 21, The Woodlands-based LGI Homes announced the grand opening of its newest community, Vacek Country Meadows, near Richmond. With convenient access to I-69, U.S. 90 and the Grand Parkway, Vacek Country Meadows offers another option for homebuyers seeking new construction and relaxed living within reach of the abundant employment and amenities offered on Houston’s west side.

LGI Homes will construct 338 singlefamily homes in the new community situated around open green spaces as well as a community park that is slated for completion this year. F45 Training opens Riverstone location From Staff Reports Anyone looking to make good on those New Year’s gym resolutions can now find an alternative option in their own backyard.

F45 Training Gym has begun hosting boot camps and workouts in front of their newest location in Riverstone at 18802 University Blvd., Suite 160.

Chuck Charlton of Charlton Auto Body in Stafford understands customers and treats them like family.

The foundation for the success of Charlton Auto Body has always been focused on the customer, and it’s been that way for three generations.

“My grandfather, E.C. Charlton, moved to Stafford in 1950, and opened up the business in 1951, and later named the company Charlton’s Garage and Auto Sales. In 1970 my dad, Johnny Mack, took over the company. When he retired in 1982, I took over,” Charlton said.

Chuck kept the same phone number and business name, and built “Charlton Auto Body into what it is today.”

It’s been 24 years in a very active auto business focusing on collision and insurance work.

“If you wreck your car, that’s the kinda work we do – fix any damage. We’ve repaired them clear up to the value of the cars, so we’ve seen it all. And we work on all vehicles,” he said.

As a successful small businessman in Stafford, Charlton is firmly established in the industry, yet has no plans for expanding the business.

“I like to keep the business small so I can keep an eye on all aspects of the company,” he said.

Charlton is candid about car tips after

a collision.

“Number one, insurance companies try and get you to go to shops that work for them. I tell everybody you don’t have to work with shops that work with insurance companies. Most are so big, and they don’t have the hands-on experience we have here at Charlton’s. I tell people you have the right to choose the body shop of your choice. We have a great customer data base and a lot of customers, and most of our work is word of mouth,” he said.

He stays away from cars during the weekend, but talks to customers over the phone if they need him. After discussing any damage issues, Charlton said, “I really don’t recommend customers take the car to the storage lot. Tow it to the house and I’ll get it out the next morning.”

Not a tinkerer of cars in his spare time, Charlton does like his trips to Mexico. It’s one of his favorite fast vacation getaways.

“We can get there in two hours,” he said.

He’s happy to note that customer satisfaction is the key to success of the family business of Charlton’s Auto Body.

“Our customers are not just a name and a number here, you know. We become friends with them, too,” he said.

“Bring your car to Charlton’s. Where you’re treated as family and not just another customer,” he said.

On Jan. 22, Scholars and Scoundrels officially opened the doors on its Sugar Land location at 17101 W. Grand Parkway S., Suite 100.

Locally owned and operated, Scholars and Scoundrels is kid-friendly, but also has something for adults with a late-night bar serving craft cocktails and 20 craft draft beers on tap as well as mimosas and wine.

Scholars and Scoundrels offers burgers, steaks, tacos and a variety of bar food along with sides such as fries, soups and salads and desserts.

The franchise’s original location is on the northern edge of Fort Bend County in Katy.
