The Cahn Scholars Fund
The Cahn Scholars Fund Established in 2024, the Cahn Scholars Fund ensures that talented young people who embody Suffield’s core values—kindness, respect, leadership, and effort—have access to the education that has long distinguished the Academy. It has become the largest endowed scholarship fund in Suffield’s history.
Hillary and Charlie Cahn join their children, Peyton and Harrison, in selecting the Cahn Scholars alongside the Admissions Office—a responsibility intended to pass from one generation of the family to the next. Their hope is that each Cahn Scholar’s character, promise, and aspirations will reflect the ideals that have guided Suffield Academy.
The Cahn Scholars Fund is a chance to make sure the culture—or that fairy dust Charlie and Hillary sprinkle here at Suffield—continues for generations to come. By contributing to the Cahn Scholars Fund, we give students with different talents and backgrounds the opportunity to attend Suffield and strengthen our community.

 Lives Shaped by Suffield For more than three decades, Hillary and Charlie Cahn have devoted their lives to Suffield Academy. As Charlie begins his final year as Head of School—the longest tenure in the Academy’s history—the Suffield community is celebrating an extraordinary era and finding a lasting way to honor it. Hillary’s connection to the Academy began long before she joined the faculty in 1996. Raised on campus, she returned to the school that shaped her childhood to help guide young people. Hillary has been a revered ski coach, art teacher, marketing director, and role model. Charlie’s path led him from teacher and coach to Director of Admissions, Dean of Faculty, and ultimately Head of School in 2004. Suffield is where they met and built their family and careers. Their children, Peyton ’18 and Harrison ’22, grew up on the same campus that became the center of their life’s work. For the Cahns, Suffield was never simply a place of employment—their leadership has always carried a personal stake in the school and its people. Together, they nurtured a culture rooted in academic excellence, integrity, humility, and genuine care for others. Every student is known, encouraged, and supported—and success is measured not only by achievement, but by character. Charlie has provided steady, purposeful leadership, always placing students at the center of every decision. Hillary has served as one of Suffield’s most authentic ambassadors, welcoming generations of students and families into the community with warmth and grace. Together they have shaped one of the most consequential chapters in the Academy’s history.
Seeing our vision for the school become a reality has been one of the great rewards of my life. It has never been just about the buildings and the campus, but about creating a caring, warm, and nurturing place for young people.

 Building the Future Grounded in a clear sense of purpose, Suffield entered a period of remarkable growth during Charlie’s tenure as Head of School. More than $120 million has been invested in the facilities, transforming Suffield while preserving the warmth and close-knit environment that have always distinguished it. Enrollment has reached record levels, the school’s financial position has never been stronger, and Suffield’s reputation has grown to national prominence. The Memorial Building, Holcomb Science Center, Tisch Field House, Koo Family Dining Room, Landis Student Union, new residence halls, and renovated athletic facilities stand as enduring reminders of a defining era in Suffield’s history. But brick and mortar are not the whole story. The Cahns have fostered a culture where relationships matter, every individual is valued, and every student is inspired to become the best version of themselves. The most enduring legacy of the Cahn years is not a transformed campus, but a stronger institution—one defined by optimism, respect, generosity, and an unwavering belief in the potential of every student.
