Dear Friends: Welcome to Justinian XXXIII, Lights, Camera, Action as we celebrate the 25th anniversary of Alumni Hall Theater. We have seen many changes over the past 25 years, but the one thing that has remained constant is our commitment to providing a quality Franciscan Catholic Education. Our young men, educated in the Franciscan tradition are truly stellar examples of our mission. They are known by faith, critical thinking, service to others, integrity, self-discipline, concern for the environment and openness to lifelong learning. Justinian is a celebration of St. Francis’ proud and successful history. St. Francis High School was Fr. Justin Figas’ dream, and we are the reality, working together to make a difference in the lives of the young men of St. Francis and to instill the importance of Franciscan values. Tonight, you, the benefactors and friends of St. Francis, can continue to make a difference. Your generosity and support of tonight’s Justinian helps tremendously to ensure that future generations reap the benefits of a Franciscan Education right here at St. Francis High School. An auction like the Justinian is only possible with the help of many people working together. Thank you to all who have helped in any way. A Message from the Co-Chairs JUSTINIAN XXXIII - Lights! Camera! Action Celebrating 25 years of Alumni Hall Theater

On the 25th Anniversary of the completion of Alumni Hall Theatre, we invite you to come and join us at Justinian XXXIII on the red carpet for a night of elegance, fine dining, spot lights, auctions, camaraderie, and much more! LIGHTS! What an exciting time in our lives. Our boys are turning into St. Francis gentleman right before our eyes… And all the while under the lights! The spotlights of academia, the lights on the sports fields, and the stage lights of Alumni Hall are shining down on all of them. And while all of this occurring, our boys are learning the importance of carrying the Light of Christ with them. For, as we read in Matthew: “Do not put your light under a bushel basket…Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.” CAMERA! St. Francis High School helps to bring this message into focus for our boys, and teach them to make it the center of their lives. As the lights are shining down upon these young men, illuminating them, who is watching? It’s the audience who brings it all into focus. It’s the parents who sit in the front row of the stands for every football, volleyball and every other sports event, sitting in the auditorium for every production and concert, and in the pews of the chapel for every important event. The cameras are always flashing, trying to capture these moments as our boys continue to develop the character that adheres to the Franciscan values of faith, humility, compassion and integrity. ACTION! Our boys have been taught since they first toured the halls of St. Francis to take action. Throughout their St. Francis careers, you have watched them get involved in the clubs, sports teams, and the fine arts. They work with their fellow students, volunteer in the community, and carry the tradition of the Renaissance Man. And now, it is your turn to take action. As we are reminded every time we recite the prayer of St. Francis: “It is in giving that we receive.” Please take this opportunity to support our beloved school at the Justinian this year. In giving of your time, talent and treasure you are a reflection of the St. Francis tradition.

Meet our Masters of Ceremonies Joe Buscaglia is a 2004 graduate of St. Francis High School; he is a sports journalist and broadcaster for WGR Sports Radio 550. He’s spent the past five years covering the Buffalo Bills for WGR and has become one of the most trusted voices in the area when it comes to football. On Sundays during the football season, Joe travels the United States and roams the sidelines as the eyes, ears and voice at field level for the official radio broadcast of the Bills. He attended Florida State University before graduating summa cum laude at Buffalo State College in 2008.

Michael Messore is a graduate of the Class of 1991. He began his career at St. Francis as a member of the coaching staff as head coach of the varsity wrestling program in 1992 at the age of 19. While coaching wrestling, Mike earned a B.S. in English Secondary Education from Buffalo State College where he also obtained an M.A. in English specializing in Literary Criticism and Theory. He joined the St. Francis faculty full-time as an Instructor of English in 1997. Currently, Mike is the English Department Chairperson; his course load includes teaching English I, English II, AP Language and Composition, and Introduction to Mass Communications. In his 22 years as the head coach of the wrestling program, the program has won 17 Monsignor Martin championships and 10 CHSAA State Division II championships. In 2002 he was inducted into the Fr. Rufinus Athletic Hall of Fame. In addition to teaching English and coaching wrestling, Mike is the developer and coordinator of Red Raider Film and Media/WSTF-TV which began in April of 2011. The group consists of selfmotivated students who write, perform, film, edit, and produce a variety of media primarily showcased in a weekly morning show format. In the past, Mike has served as Head Coach of Freshman Football, as Booster Club Moderator, as Fitness Center Moderator, and as Sports Information Director. Currently, Mike resides in Orchard Park, NY with his wife Lindsay and their two daughters, Samantha and Claire. Nate Suchyna is a 2000 graduate of St Francis High school. Following graduation Nate went on to Canisius College where he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Athletic Training in 2004 and a Master of Science Degree in Education in 2005. In the fall of 2005 he returned to his Alma Mater as a math and athletic training/first aid teacher He is also the school’s full time Athletic Trainer. In that role he helped to create and implement the school’s Head Injury Management Program, which is designed to protect St. Francis athletes from the dangers of concussions. Coach Nate, as he’s referred to by the students, also coaches Indoor and Outdoor Track and Field. In 2010 he was inducted into the Fr. Rufinus Athletic Hall of Fame at St. Francis. He is well liked by both his students and co-workers and is always wearing a smile. Nate’s cheerful disposition is contagious as he wishes everyone a Marvelous Monday or a Terrific Tuesday! Nate resides in Lackawanna with his brother Nick who is also on staff at St. Francis. In what little spare time he has, Nate enjoys serving as S.C.O.FA.P. or the Social Coordinator of Franciscan Affairs and Parties.

General auction rules

All sales are final and there will be no exchanges or refunds on items except where specified.

Items may be removed the evening of the auction only by showing a validated receipt at the door at the time of departure.

Values of items being auctioned are donor stated and are not warranted by Justinian for tax purposes or for general value. The IRS advises that donations are tax-deductible only for the amount of the bid in excess of fair market value.

Unless otherwise specified, all auction items and services must be used within one (1) year after May 3, 2014.

All auction items not taken home the night of Justinian must be picked up at the St. Francis High School Office for Institutional Advancement on Monday, May 5, 2014 between the hours of 9 am-1 pm. The school will not be open on Sunday, May 4, 2014.

Payment by the successful bidder may be made immediately following the auction in the form of cash, check, VISA or Mastercard. Payment in full is required on Saturday, May 3, 2014.

Verbal auction rules

The silent auction will open for bidding at 5 p.m. and will close at various intervals throughout the evening. Table closings will be announced during the evening. The closing bid circled by the Justinian official constitutes the winning bid.

The verbal auction will begin at 8:45 p.m. and will continue without interruption until all items have been auctioned. Doors will open at 5 p.m. in order to give you the opportunity to view the items prior to the bidding.

All items in the silent auction have bid sheets affixed nearby. Persons wishing to bid must do so by writing his/her bid number, on the bid sheets. Please press down hard when entering your bid on the triplicate bid sheets.

Persons wishing to bid should display his/her bid number when the auctioneer requests bids.

Certain items will require a minimum starting bid. Justinian officials reserve the right to withdraw these items from the auction if the minimum bid is not received.

In the event of a dispute, the auctioneer shall act as the final authority and determine the winning bidder.

3. *Bidding increments are printed on the bid sheet and cannot be changed or altered in any way 4.

*Guaranteed Purchase- Items are available for “Guaranteed Purchase” (or Buy Now). If you write your bid number opposite the amount labeled “Guaranteed Purchase” you have bought the item. This will conclude the bidding on that item.

V20a Frank Lloyd Wright Inspired Chair handcrafted by SFHS Student David Kroll Inspired by Frank Lloyd Wright this chair, refurbished by David Kroll, a Senior in Mr. Hosken's Studio Art class, was in desperate need of repair. Made of solid oak, David took the entire chair apart, sanded every piece and stained each part with subtle variations of color. He then rebuilt the chair and coated the entire piece with clear polymer. He redesigned the back upright on the chair to emulate a F.L.W. window using solid maple, stained with ebony and cut stained glass to insert into the window panes. The seat of the chair has been reupholstered with a complimenting fabric.

Verbal Auction Items V20b St. Francis Mac-Kenzie Childs inspired Chair by SFHS Teacher Scott Hosken & Student Alex Walcyk This chair is a collaboration between Alex Walczyk, a Senior in Studio Art 2, and Mr. Hosken. Having been inspired by Mac-Kenzie Childs designers, the chairs uprights are a stripe pattern of red, white, gold and black. The seat base has the traditional Mac-Kenzie Childs Courtly checkerboard pattern and the seat is red and white Chevron pattern with a brocade twist trim. The upright on the back of the chair has an inset of the St. Francis logo and the top crosspiece has St. Francis in Old English text cut out of it with a scroll saw.

A Goldendoodle can be a friend to everyone and a stranger to no one, which can make them a wonderful addition to almost any home. They have the kind, friendly, people oriented disposition of their Golden Retriever ancestors blended with the natural and low-shedding coat of the Standard Poodle. In this spirit, Fr. Michael gave him the name Cupertino after St. Joseph Cupertino, a Franciscan who is the patron of students and aviators. Bred by a local breeder, Cupertino's parents are AKC registered. His mom is a Golden Retriever and his dad is a Chocolate Standard Poodle. Typical Goldendoodles are hypo-allergenic and are usually 55 to 65 pounds.
