What’s Happened To Our Love Of Antiques

“Little and often” are two words I’ve been using a lot whilst teaching fitness over the last few months. Whether we are in lockdown or everyday life, the easiest way to get in shape is little and often. For instance, are you sitting down as you read this? Well, spend a few minutes standing up (if you are able). Just standing up more can have significant fitness benefits; burning more calories, lowering your risk of heart disease and stroke and giving you a nicely shaped derrier.
I have been on a few Zoom business networking videocalls, and was astounded by just how static participants were. With mug of tea or coffee, it would not be unusual to spend 90 minutes on a webinar, pretty much without moving a muscle, eyes transfixed to the screen. You are allowed to move around when you work from home! Here are some ideas of small habit changes
By Tracy Griffen
you can easily make in your daily routine, working or not. Choose one (only one) and implement it for a week. When it ‘sticks’, choose another wee habit to adopt:
Exercise
- Stand up for short phone calls. - Try 20 press ups (push ups) a day. You can do the easy version, or even against a wall. - Walk up steps two at a time. - Do some squats as you boil the kettle. - Fidget on your desk chair, wheel it around using your leg strength. - Use your lunch break to exercise. - Set an alarm and go for a walk.
Nutrition
- Lay out the breakfast table the night before.

- Have a glass of water / cup of herbal tea before your first caffeinated drink of the day. - Plan healthy snacks for the day, and leave them on the counter in plain sight. - Hide the chocolate and put oatcakes in their place.
If you have ever wondered why you go on ‘autopilot’, you must read ‘The Power of Habit’ by Charles Duhigg - a bestseller that explores the science behind habits. Learn how to control your habits and make them work for your benefit. And remember even small changes become significant over time.
