By Gillian Dalgliesh “Tis the season to eat, drink & be merry!”

Sounds great but often there can be a day of reckoning around 1st January where we wish we hadn’t been quite so over-indulgent! So over the 31 days of December, I’m going to be offering daily Mood Boosters, Plate Power Tips & Booze Busters for happiness, peace & self empowerment. Here are some tips: MOOD BOOSTER – Think about yourself – come up with 31 positive words to describe yourself (I know this can be hard as we’re generally not conditioned to “blowing our own trumpets”, but do it anyway!) If you like, you can also ask those close to you how they would describe you. For example - caring, loving, genuine, generous, charismatic, daring, clever, intelligent, helpful, strong etc. Once you have 31, write each word separately on a piece of paper, fold it and pop all 31 in a bowl. Each day, from 1st December, choose one of the folded pieces of paper at random and read the word it contains. That is your personal Mantra for that day. Own it! Repeat it often! Celebrate it! P.S. You could actually do this for someone else and make it a pre-Christmas gift.  MOOD BOOSTER - Wind it forward – Before you indulge in that extra mince pie, glass of wine or whatever … remember how rubbish you felt the next day when you did that previously - your feelings of regret, low mood, self-castigation, guilt – it just wasn’t worth it! And it just inclined you to do more self-sabotage. Get your mind wrapped around how good you’ll feel by resisting the temptation! PLATE POWER – Eat more slowly by using the opposite hand to the one you’d normally use. This will slow down your eating and give you the awareness when your brain & your belly simultaneously send you a signal to let you know when you are comfortably full, replete, satisfied and you can then just stop eating, even if you haven’t cleared your plate. BOOZE BUSTER – PLAN!!!!!!!! This is essential. Make an advance plan of how much you intend to drink. Set a limit on how you’re going to drink – perhaps you could intersperse alcohol with an alcohol free drink or water. Consider low alcohol options. Set a budget of how much you’re going to spend on alcohol and take cash. Be selective about what events you want to attend. Set a going home time.
