STOCKBRIDGE SPOTLIGHT

Welcome To The December Stockbridge Spotlight Guess what? The Festive Season is definitely upon us again though it hardly seems any time since last Christmas!! I was lucky enough to be invited to the opening of Christmas At The Botanics and what a brilliant night it was. I have been before but, as always, they have some new features this year which I found absolutely mesmerising. I don’t want to give too much away and spoil things for those of you who are booked but colour changing elements set to music were amazing. And the projections onto one of the buildings towards the end were so cleverly done. I can highly recommend the event - and, even better, it is right on your doorstep. As usual, I will be taking a break in January but I will be back early February with the first issue of 2020. I would like to wish all the readers and advertisers of the Stockbridge Spotlight a very Merry Christmas when it comes and a Happy and Prosperous New Year. I hope that you have an amazing Festive Season.

Best Wishes Sue

Are You Ready for the New Decade? Set your intentions for the coming year … and beyond! By Gillian Dalgliesh What positive changes would you like to see in your life in 2020? An incredibly powerful way to manifest your desires is to create a Vision Board.

activated when a weightlifter lifts heavy weights are also similarly activated when the lifter just imagined (visualised) lifting weights.

A vision board is a place that displays pictures, symbols, words & affirmations etc of what you want in life. When you hang it in a space where you see it daily, your vision board brings your goals and aspirations to life. It’s a physical representation of goals that you’re aiming to achieve: Health, abundance, career, family, personal growth, love …..

So, what’s the big secret to creating a vision board that works? It’s simple: Your vision board should focus on how you want to feel, not just on things that you want.

Vision Boards work, and there’s actually a really simple explanation of why they work so well – visualisation! When you create a vision board and place it in a space where you see it often, you essentially end up doing short visualisation exercises throughout the day. The key to visualising is to combine the visual image of what you want with the emotion you will be feeling once you’ve got it! When you look at something you have placed on your board and FEEL the emotion of having already manifested it in your life, you are actively sending out the positive vibrations that assist the Universe in helping you to attract the connections that make up the chain of manifestation. It doesn’t matter if you are imagining having something in your life or that you actually do have it – the Universe responds to your vibration – NEGATIVE OR POSITIVE – so be careful of what you wish for! Visualisation is one of the most powerful mind exercises you can do. According to the popular book The Secret, “The law of attraction is forming your entire life experience and it is doing that through your thoughts. When you are visualising, you are emitting a powerful frequency out into the Universe.” Whether you believe that or not, we know that visualisation works. Athletes have been using it for decades to improve performance, (ask Andy Murray!) and Psychology Today magazine reported that the brain patterns

Make 2020 your year of goal follow-through by creating a Vision Board to give you a clear picture of where you intend to get to! I am running a half-day Vision Board Workshop on Sunday 29th December 2019 in central Edinburgh. The sacred space includes guided meditations on “Letting go of negativity from 2019 & Setting Your Intentions for 2020”. All workshop materials are provided for creating the Vision Boards. See ad for my contact details and get in touch for more information. Spaces very limited.

Sex Therapy Services at Bright Light Sex Therapy is for Everyone….. Being human means we are sexual beings - we all carry complex sex histories. Your sexual and intimacy wants and needs can change a lot throughout your lifetime and throughout your relationships. Some of these changes might improve your sex life, may make it feel worse or non existent. When this happens it can be easier to shut up, ignore it, or talk about everything else but this. You might lose interest in sex with your partner altogether, or dislike yourself and your body. Talking about sex can be a big challenge, it may feel uncomfortable at first, but can be a vital key to opening that door to an intimate, happy and fulfilling sex life and a stronger positive relationship with your own body and self, and with your partners. Intimacy, closeness, healthy self-esteem and good communication are essentials can be the biggest factors in sexual satisfaction. It may feel awkward to talk about sex at first, but very often opening up leads to wonderful shifts in your sexual relationships and in how you see yourself. Too often, people let years go by without having a conversation about their sexuality. All our therapists are experienced in working with sexual difficulties and receive regular clinical supervision from an Accredited Sex Therapist. All our therapists are members of COSRT (College of Sex and Relationship Therapists). All therapists abide by the COSRT Code of Practice (www.corst.org. uk). All therapists work within Bright Light rigorous Policies and Procedures. Our Sex Therapists will support you and your partners to achieve and often rediscover a healthy loving sex life. What are you waiting for, contact us to make your first appointment to start this journey. Not sure? Here are some of the practical questions we are often asked 32

Will I have to take my clothes off? No. All of our work with you and your partner is based on talking; and sometimes you will have homework to do with your partner in the privacy of your own home. Many of our clients not only enjoy their homework but delight in it as it improves physical intimacy and their zest for life. I don’t want my friends or family to find out, is it confidential? Yes, Change counselling is completely confidential. We will not give your name or any information about you to anyone outside Change unless someone’s personal safety is at risk. I know I have a sexual problem, can you still help me even though I don’t have partners at the moment? Yes, we support people who are experiencing/have experienced sexual difficulties. We can help you work on your challenges so you can enjoy future sexual and intimate relationships with confidence. Some of the challenges you make want to seek our advice/support with are – - Loss of desire - Uncomfortable in/with your body - Challenges caused by the menopause/ Childbirth - Difficulty achieving erection/ejaculation/ orgasm - too soon/not soon enough - Painful sex - Disability/Illness - Sexual Addiction - Surviving sexual abuse - Worried about porn YOU are the expert in your own life; we are here at Bright Light to guide you along your journey to sexual satisfaction, intimacy, and confidence. Festive Cashew Roast Serves 6

By Tracy Griffen

Preparation Time 15 to 20 mins. Cooking Time 1 Hour If any of your family or friends are veggie, they’ll love you (even more) for going to the effort of making them something special for Christmas. It’s not much effort for this yummy loaf, and you can prepare it in advance and cook it on the day. 1. Preheat oven to 180C 2. In a big pot, heat 1 tbsp olive oil and sauté onion and garlic until soft, not brown. Take off the heat. 3. If you’re making your own breadcrumbs you can do this now, then grind the cashews and mix them together.

Ingredients

• • • • • • • • • • •

2 tbsp olive oil

• • •

1 onion, finely chopped 2 cloves garlic, crushed 125g wholemeal breadcrumbs, fresh 200 - 250g cashews 300g plain tofu (firm, not silken) 1 tsp rosemary, fresh is best 1 tsp thyme, fresh is best

5. Blend the stock cube, hot water and tofu in a blender until creamy. 5. Add the tofu mix to the pan and add salt and pepper to taste. 6. In a separate pan, heat remaining oil and sauté the mushrooms. 7. In the greased loaf tin, arrange some of the mushrooms, then press in half the tofu/cashew mix.

125ml hot water

8. Arrange another layer of mushrooms, then the rest of the tofu / cashew mix, then a final layer of mushrooms.

250g mushrooms, chopped (field mushrooms for maximum taste)

9. Seal the top with a piece of tin foil and bake for one hour.

Sea salt

10. When cooked, remove from oven, stand for 10 minutes then ease round the edges with a knife and turn out.

1 vegetable stock cube

Ground black pepper Greased 2 lb loaf tin

Personal Trainer Tracy Griffen is a keen vegetarian cook and can help you with nutrition, see adjacent ad. 36
