Army nabs another suspect in Guingona ‘slay-try’

CAMP EVANGELISTA, Cagayan de Oro City – Another suspect in the ambuscade of Gingoog City Mayor Ruthie Guingona was arrested Sunday noon in the municipal town of Villanueva in Misamis Oriental, the military said on Monday. Capt. Christian Uy, of the army division’s Public Affairs Office, identified the suspect as Joel Yagao, a.k.a. “Jhong,” of Poblacion Villanueva, Misamis Oriental. Uy said that elements of the military and police arrested Yagao on the strength of a warrant of arrest for double and multiple frustrated murder linking him in the ambushed of Guingona last April 20 2013 in sitio Alegatan, Gingoog City. Two of Guingona’s escorts were killed while another police officer was wounded in the ambushed, Uy said. Guingona is the wife of former Vice President Teofisto Guingona Jr. and Residents flee from fighting between security forces and members of the former rebel group Moro Islamic Liberation Front, who raided several villages in Zamboanga City.
