Labor department secretary visits agro-industrial hub By Mildred E. Dablio and Glenford Labial
CAGAYAN de Oro City–– The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), Secretary, Rosalinda Dimapilis-Baldoz is in Cagayan de Oro City, the agro-industrial hub of Northern Mindanao, today (July 4, 2014) as part of her regional visits. The DOLE Regional Office NO. X (DOLE-X) has sponsored the series of events for the day held at
the N-Hotel, this city. In order to attain decent work in the country, Secretary Baldoz with Regional Director Raymundo G. Agravante awards some Special Program for the Employment of Students (SPES) beneficiaries, regionwide. Agravante informed that SPES’s is one of the Department’s strategies to enhance employability of workers and at the same time, in line with the national goal
in poverty reduction. He further noted that the regional office has already paid 32% of its beneficiaries as of June 2014 amounting to P7.9 million with some 3,947 students. SecLab Baldoz likewise turns over P38.5M livelihood grants to 69 proponents covering 7,585 beneficiaries. This project is under the Grassroots Participatory Budgeting Process (GPBP), formerly the Bottom-UpBudgeting (BUB), cover-
ing the six provinces of Northern Mindanao for the 2nd quarter of 2014. Baldoz lauded the Local Government Units (LGUs) in their support to DOLE. “The GPBP is one of the livelihood opportunities of the Department to shield vulnerable workers and their families for better access to social protection and sustainable income of workers,” Agravante pointed out. CAGAYAN de Oro City–– Provincial governor Jose Maria Zubiri of Bukdinon on Thursday called for a deeper investigation on the ambushed-killing of Impasug-ong town mayor Mario T. Okinlay on Wednesday. Zubiri said that until the communist New People’s
Army (NPA) issues a statement to claim the ambushed of Okinlay, the provincial government could not issue a conclusive statement on the incident.
