Police nab rape suspect By GERRY LEE GORIT Correspondent
CAGAYAN de Oro City––A 54-year-old man suspected of raping her daughter’s daughter was nabbed by the police on Monday. The suspect, identified by the police as Virgilio Hemostra of barangay Dayawan, Villanueva, Misamis Oriental, was arrested in barangay Lapasan, Cagayan de Oro City. Sr. Insp. Rogelio Labor, chief of the Villanueva police office, said Hemostra was the subject of a complaint by his daughter who reported to the police that her daughter, the suspect’s granddaughter, was raped by her father. MILLION SIGNATURES. Stakeholders affix their signatures to show support to the campaign, dubbed as “MilyongLagda para sa GPP,” which was launched by Kilos Mamamayan and its local partner, Aksyon Mindanao, during the “SOCCSKARGEN GPP Stakeholders’ Summit,” held Tuesday, December 2, 2014, at CincoNinas Hotel in Koronadal City. Signatures will also be gathered in Regions IX, Region X, and Region XI. At least, 100,000 signatures were collected in Koronadal, even as they turned-over the signed forms from Mindanaoans, represented by the CSOs from regions 9, 10, 11, 12, 13. CAGAYAN de Oro City-Despite some concerns, the proposed Bangsamoro Law is receiving overwhelming support from residents in Northern Mindanao, the chair of the House of Representatives Ad Hoc Committee on the Bangsamoro Basic Law said. “I saw the universal support for the proposed Bangsamoro law. It is undeniable,” Rep. Rufus Rodriguez, (2nd district, Cagayan de Oro City) told MindaNews . Rodriguez said he got a sense of the sentiments after a round of public hearings in the cities of Marawi, Iligan, and Cagayan de Oro; and in Tubod, Lanao del Norte last week from November 27 to 29.
