Two injured in Surigao bus bombing
SURIGAO City––Two persons were injured when an improvised explosive device exploded inside a passenger bus Wednesday morning at Claver town in Surigao del Norte shortly after passengers disembarked for a lunch break, police said. avao City-Army personnels of 84th IB participated last week the synhronized Medical and Dental Mission with Free Haircut and Feeding Program at Sto. Nino National High School, Tugbok District.
According to the battalion spokesperson several cause oriented groups joined effort in extending their support during the activity.
He said topping the lists of benefactors from the National and local government units were the personnels from the City Mayors Office, Doc-
tors and Dentist f rom 10ID, PA, and the health officers coming from Department of Health Region XI. The Mental Health Association, CHO Davao and Task Force Davao also among the supporters. Those coming from the private sectors and benevolent stakeholders are the Lions Club, Davao Vision, Kiwanis Club. The outreach program was initiated by the Brgy Council of Sto Niño, Tug-
bok District in partnership with City Health of Tugbok District and was held at Sto Niño National High School in Tugbok District. In a report a total number of beneficiaries were summed up to 337 Medical check-up patients, 267 dental tooth extraction, 170 Optical check-up, 50 persons for free haircut and another 500 beneficiaries of feeding program brought to a total of 1,324 Brgy Residents benefited.

Gayog It goes without saying that we do love our parents?despite their imperfections, their little and big wars, or in some rare cases even if one or both of them have left us in the lurch?perhaps, out of fear, shame, or ignorance. Still, there are no other people like our parents, no clones for Nanay and Tatay, Ama and Ina, Papa and Mama, Dad and Mom, or whatever we call the two. As they say, ?Puwede kang magpalit ng sweetheart, pero hindi ng magulang.? [?You can change sweethearts, but not parents.? It was a great experience when the Jose Abad Santos Central Elementary School (JASCES) holds its Parents Day last February 1, 2015. It was attended by more than 300 parents from different grade level of the school. Ms Merlyn Yacon JASCES Principal said that the population of the pupils of the school is more than 1000 but there are some parents that have 3 or 5 children in the school. Indeed it was very nice experience to met the parents and have fun in the school campus. Im so thankful the initiative of the parent of our PGO president Lee Leah O.Gayog who made this event put into reality She added. The parents is very excited to hear a message or golden thoughts from our invited speaker from Davao. Mr Gene L. Olojan A Business Consultant and Family Counselor just give his brilliant thought on How the LOVE can affect the Parents relationship and also to their children. He just talk casually and spontaneosly that the audience could understand. He just give practical example and involve participation from the parent in the audience. It was just very fruitful day with the parents who attended the symposium. Unfortunately the Municipal Official who are expected to attend and be a part of the Parent Day was to show… The Mayor and the Councilor that was invited didn’t even send there representative if they can attend the event. That why I conclude that some of politician you can see or talk to them when the election is past approaching…. They don’t give important what ever event specially school event… they are present if they think it will help their political ambitions like Fiestas or other event. I just want to mention Coun. Jonathan Chua of JAS even though he was able to attain because of the death of his uncle but financially and morally he support. He give more concern on Education rather than other things. The UH Huey helicopter was about 10 feet above the ground and about 500 meters away from when it suddenly loses power and crashed around 3:42 in the afternoon. Maj. Christian Uy, the army spokesperson here, said that the lone pilot was slightly injured, but the military is withholding the identity pending notification of the family. Uy said the helicopter was lifting its nose to take off when it just overturned and rolled on its back on the golf course. “The helicopter was only able to lift about three feet when it rolled on its back,” he said. cause of the crash. The Vietnam-vintage helicopter had just ferried 4ID chief Maj. Gen. Oscar Lactao and his staff from Butuan City when it met the accident. Contrary to the statement of Uy, Lactao said no one from the helicopter’s four-man crew was hurt. He said the helicopter was part of a two-chopper mission that brought him back to Cagayan de Oro from Bangasi, Butuan City. “We rode on the chopper from Butuan and there was no problem with it. I was already in my office when I heard a loud crash,” Lactao said. He said when he looked outside his window he saw the helicopter laying on its back at the far end of the golf course. According to Uy, the ill-fated helicopter will remain in its crash site until the conclusion of the investigation. It is not known whether the helicopter is part of the 21 newly “refurbished” Utility Helicopters delivered to the Philippine Air Force last year as part of the AFP’s modernization program. Developed in the 1950s, the UHIH helicopters were popular during the Vietnam War in 1963 as a versatile aircraft for transport, air assault, and gunship. Identifying arsonists, an almost impossible task Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno has sent a Manilabased team to Cagayan de Oro to secure a temporary site for the Hall of Justice that was burned last Friday. The Supreme Court team will visit the site of the destroyed building and inspect a temporary site for the courts and offices that were burned. Looking for a replacement venue is easy but what is more pressing and important is to issue appropriate advice and instructions to court employees, litigants and counsels affected by the incident, which could be one of the tasks of the team. Most of all, there is an aggravating circumstance that should be probed. Senator Koko Pimentel said in a press statement that initial police reports indicated that
arson could be behind the burning of the said Hall of Justice building. Certain parties to cases pending in one of the courts holding sessions in the Hall of Justice had been allegedly tagged as suspects, added Pimentel. That angle should be looked into by investigators. However, vast experiences show how difficult and tedious is the task of identifying the arsonists unless witnesses see the act. Killed in the fire incident were utility worker Jepry Uban and building security guard Benjamin Buna. Witnesses said Buna rushed into the second floor of the building to wake up Uban who was said to be sleeping in one of the offices upstairs, when black smoke was first seen. Which means, the ground floor was not yet

Pimentel challenged the investigators to leave no stone unturned to identify, arrest and prosecute the parties responsible for the fire. He asked investigators to give priority to the arson angle, saying they owe it to the people of Cagayan de Oro city and the country in general to determine the parties behind the blaze that burned several important court documents and evidences. The Chief Justice vowed that a full investigation into the fire will be pursued until fully completed.
However, the incident should awaken the government to ensure efficient security systems for all courts and government offices which house important documents. The present security system of our government offices and buildings is an easy prey to arsonists and other criminals. Good thing that after the incident, Chief Justice Sereno saw the urgency to fully automate court systems nationwide. She said it is imperative that a more secure and scientific system of preserving evidence be devised. Two tasks are at hand, reconstructing the lost court files, and identifying the arsonists. The concerned and affected parties, and the general public are asked to help.
Public official is not immune from accountability The City Council in Cagayan De Oro City has passed a resolution ordering the Local Finance Committee (LFC) to provide the local august body complete listing of the city government’s savings from 2013 until the current and prior years. Whether the LFC would acknowledge the resolution is another issue. However, there are already insinuations that the LFC is not bent on heeding the resolution. One should know that the members of the city’s LFC are personally chosen by the City Executive. It is of public knowledge that the incumbent
City Executive and the City Council are always locked in controversy, particularly on the issue of spending the taxpayers’ money. While it is admitted that the Executive and the Legislative Department in the local government exercise coequal powers, this practice is perennial disregarded by any of the department. This condition occurs when both bodies belong to the other side of the political fence. PDRRN to launch SURGE with workshop on RA 10121 BUTUAN CITY – The People’s Disaster Risk Reduction Network (PDRRN) is set to launch the Caraga region’s Scaling Up Resilience in Governance (SURGE), a consortium consisting of Christian Aid, Handicap International, Oxfam and Plan International and funded by the European Union humanitarian aid, and will be holding the workshop on Republic Act 10121 or the Philippine Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Act of 2010 to partner stakeholders on February 5-6, 2015 at Y Hotel, this city. This is part of the Rights, Risks, and Resilience – a policy series on inclusive community-based DRR (ICBDRR). “The workshop aims to identify the issues related to DRR policies and practices; strengthen the understanding and approach of inclusive community-based disaster risk reduction based on good practices and innovations and based on the identified issues, develop key messages and actions in relation to the sunset review and the 3rd World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction (WCDRR) in March 2015 in Sendai, Japan,” bared Esteban Masagca, PDRRN Executive Director. Masagca also stressed that SURGE brings successful experiences on ICBDRR to more communities to be transformed
and established into local, regional and national policies and practices. The learnings from these experiences, according to him, are drawn from the combines experience on DRR and humanitarian aid of SURGE partners and other agencies. These learnings can also be useful reference for other high-risk anddiverse communities in the Philippines and beyond. “SURGE is implemented through a suite of activities with diverse stakeholders over 18 months, up to November 2015 by Community-building, Change in policies, Capacity-building, and Creative communications,” added Masagca. It was also learned that the main beneficiaries of SURGE are national DRR agencies, local government units (LGUs) and affected communities in high-risk and poor areas in the country. Agencies that are deeply involved in DRR will be engaged as SURGE advances improvements in policy and practices. LGUs and affected communities, DRR practitioners including civil society organizations and DRR champions will benefit from the series of peerto-peer and mentoring sessions on ICBDRR while the greater public can learn more and influence others about the value of ICBDRR especially in a disasterprone country like the Philippines. SP approves water laboratory analysis in Butuan BUTUAN CITY - The Sangguniang Panlungsod of Butuan, in its regular session on February 3, 2015, passed a resolution recommending that the laboratory analysis of the potability of water provided by the local drinking water stations be done only in the city. In a resolution principally authored by Councilor Virgilio G. Nery Jr., the SP recommended that the City Health Office (CHO) will facilitate the laboratory analysis within the city rather than travel outside, particularly to a DOH accredited facility in San Francisco, Agusan del Sur, to procure a certification of water potability.
In an interview, Dr. Nery clarified that the city has its own DOH accredited laboratory located at the Butuan City Water District (BCWD). Further, Nery explained that local drinking water operators incur additional expenses when the physical and laboratory tests of water samples are done outside the city. (PNPAAI)- Zamboanga del Norte Chapter and a former PNP Special Action Force (SAF) member believed that justice could still be served to the 44 SAF commandos killed in an encounter with the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) and Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) in Mamasapano, Maguindanao last Jan. 25. “Here in Zamboanga del Norte, we believe in due process. We know that under the leadership now of Police Deputy Director General Leonardo A. Espina, he can help give justice to the death of our comrades,” Barraquio said in an interview. “We have faith in him that he is with us in this fight for justice to the 44 SAF fallen heroes,” he added. According to him, those PNP-SAF members who joined the “operation wolverine” to arrest the two international terrorists, Abdul Basit Usman and Zulkifli bin Hir alias “Marwan,” were “the best for that very important mission.” He disclosed that before one can be a member of
SAF, he must undergo rigid trainings and test missions in order to be fully equipped and skilled in dealing with armed enemies. Moreover, he explained that in special operation, they faithfully observe the “operational secrecy” as they called it. “In special operation like in Mamasapano, we never disclose it to anyone even to our families and to other people. It shall only be between and among us in order not to compromise our operation,” he said. Meanwhile, Barraquio led the sympathy walk for the 44 fallen heroes with all members of Zamboanga del Norte Police Provincial Office (ZNPPO), Dipolog police, PNP-SWAT, SOCO, Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) as well as some members of 101st Infantry Brigade, Philippine Army. They marched silently from Sta. Cruz to Dipolog City Cathedral where they lighted candles and heard mass for their comrades. Zambo City to operate Integrated Bus Terminal on 24/7 basis

AMBOANGA CITY - The city government is optimistic that the operation of the newly-completed P180-million Integrated Bus Terminal (IBT) will be an additional incomeearning economic enterprise. City Administrator Antonio Orendain, Jr. said Wednesday the IBT will operate on a 24/7 basis once it is opened. However, Orendain was quick to say that it is ex-
pected the IBT will have a “break-even” income on the first year of operation. The terminal, which can accommodate more than 600 passengers and 17 buses at one time, is located in
Barangay Divisoria, 6.40 kilometers east of this city. The IBT will cater to buses plying from this city to Pagadian City, Zamboanga del Sur; Dipolog City, Zamboanga del Norte, Ozamis City, Misamis Occidental; and, to as far as Cagayan de Oro City in Northern Mindanao. City Engineer Luis Vicente Despalo earlier announced that the IBT is “physically 100 percent completed” except for some
finishing touches. The terminal has different amenities that include breastfeeding room, gift shops, eateries, offices of the different government line agencies and restrooms. The best avenue to learn is to start from the basics. It is similar in learning Mathematics; before learning how to count, it is important to know what number one is look like, or even two, three and four. The same goes for a formal Education. Before one could know the theories of Evolution or the process that took place in a Big Bang theory, a student must understand what a teacher is talking about. In other words, he must be able to interpret the thought shared by his teacher. One problem in educating young people is because the inability to understand the language us ed in instr uc tion. Might it be, there are terms and phrases used by a teacher that are complete strange to the thinking level students, making understanding and learning difficult to achieve.
Language is one main tool for communication. If a student fails to understand it, the entire communication process would not be successful. This is one of the reasons on the implementation of Mother Tonguebased Multi-lingual Education (MTB-MLE). It is a program under the Department of Education’s (DepEd) K to 12 Basic Education, that uses mother-tongue language in conducting classes for earlier levels of education, specifically kindergarten and grades one, two and three. The results showed that students learn better when taught in their native language than in a foreign tongue. Majority of the top 40 students performed better after being taught in their first language – 32 of the top students in Grade 1, 30 in Grade 2, and 32 in Grade 3. Meanwhile, the bulk of
the bottom 40 students performed relatively poorly when taught in a foreign language – 36 students in Grade 1, 40 in Grade 2, and 31 in Grade 3. DepEd also said that the application of multi-language education to schools does not mean English and Filipino will no longer be taught. Filipino subjects will still be taught in the first semester, while English will be in the second semester. Both language subjects shall focus on oral fluency. In school, pupils from Grades 2 to 4 will also learn the components of language including listening, oral development, speaking, reading and writing. Even in classroom setting, proper use of language shou ld b e given an utmost importance. It is basic yet first to be considered because it is one effective avenue in overcoming poor learning.

Aside from committing yourself to be a good and best steward of good learning and education to your pupils, as a teacher you must also maintain a good relationship to your pupils and your pupils to their classmates; being in school is not only confiding oneself to its four walls but also creating and maintaining harmonious relationship, among others. Let us face the fact that we cannot control how our pupils act and behave, let us face it that they have a different orientation and a different upbringing and then you bring them all under one roof, under a one room, that is a challenge for us teachers- how to maintain a good relationship among our pupils. One thing I have noticed is that when I get too close or attach to one of my pupils, others may think of it as he or she is my favourite in the class, when in fact he or she is not; it is just that, that certain pupil needs more attention and guidance than any of her or his classmates. But, to proper address this kind of behaviour, I
must be close to all of them. Teaching is not only imparting or sharing to them what they ought and deserve to know, teaching is more than that. Teaching must be anchored with love, passion, commitment and guidance. As a teacher, our pupils treat as their second parents away from their home. They shine us of great respect, we must shine them too with great love and understanding. As a teacher, I must treat them all fairly, no bias, no nepotism, no favouritism. Everyone should be equal. Everyone should be given enough attention as much as I was able to give to the other child. Teaching is also parenting our children of today to be good citizen of this community and country. Thus, to maintain this good relationship, I must set as a good example to them so that they will follow me, not only because I am their teacher but because they can see in me that I am doing goodness, and that they should follow this ‘goodness’ for them to live a better life.

Due to the abrupt change of technolog y nowadays, due to the presence of high technology facilities and services, everything now comes in fast and quick. The food we eat, the means of getting to our daily works every day and most significantly, the study habits of our children of today. Almost all of the pupils and students now have Ipads, tablets, digital cellphones, touch screen cellphones, I mean everything is just a one click away from them. They can make their eyes enjoy to different digital applications, digital games,
three dimensional apps and many more. That they could sometimes forget to study, the moment they arrive home, get their tablets and then play the whole afternoon. As teachers, their second parents, we could not get it from them that indeed high technology is of much significance and importance nowadays, what we do is to encourage them to practice their study habits at home or in school. First, give them take home assignment. An assignment that could unite or bond your pupil and their parents, for example a piece of artwork, in the case that your pupils will no longer
face their tablets but they will get busy with their artworks plus they get to communicate with their parents as well. Second, create a classroom activity everyday that could give your pupils a chance or an opportunity to mingle with their classmates. In that way, their interpersonal skills will be developed, so that what they do at school, they will imitate it at home. And last, give your pupils a time to play ; teachers should always remember that ‘All work, no play makes Jack a dull boy’. Therefore, give your pupils a break too, play with them and understand them more the way they have to be and the way they deserve to be.

There was also the need to know the exact savings of the city government from 2013 at the time when City Mayor Oscar Moreno exercised his powers as the city’s Chief Executive. The City Council also wants to know the savings prior to Moreno’s time, apparently, to make a comparison on how the incumbent administration and the previous administration spent the savings of the city government. For the ordinary taxpayer, the action taken by the City Council is laudable. At least, as an ordinary citizen, a resident of Cagayan De Oro has the right to be informed on how the taxpayers’ money is spent. Granting without admitting that the resolution is politically motivated, is there anything wrong when the resolution is obviously intended to account for the taxpayers’ money? Perhaps, one would agree that it is, but necessary that in the spirit of transparency, the officials of the local government, especially the elective officials should be made accountable to the public. Otherwise, if we will simply allow the public officials to spend the taxpayers’ money sans accountability, the existence of the government becomes futile. ANILA -- Manila Electric Company (Meralco) Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Oscar Reyes said its subsidiary MGen Power targets to complete the Engineering Procurement and Construction (EPC) closing for its Redondo Peninsula Energy Inc. 600 Megawatts (MW) Power Plant by mid-year, after the Supreme Court (SC) decided in favor of Meralco on Tuesday in the "Writ of Kalikasan" case. ”We will hope that (the EPC closing) can move on this, by on or before the middle of the year,” he told reporters at the sidelines of the Norwegian Embassy’s Energy Regulation Forum Wednesday. Reyes noted accomplishing the EPC closing will allow Re-
dondo Peninsula Energy Inc. to continue with the construction of the USD 1 billion project. The Meralco head said the Subic, Olongapo based project will be funded through 70 percent loan and 30 percent equity. It was nearing its financial closing when the “Writ of Kalikasan” case was filed. Reyes said the project is estimated to be completed within 42 months time, with the preparations for the site already completed. However, the Meralco CEO said the site cannot cater to another expansion, stressing the space for the power plant is only limited at 600 MW. Reyes is optimistic that the Supreme Court decision will help alleviate the Luzon grid’s growing demand for electricity.
“We are hopeful with the SC decision. With the need of the Luzon grid for critical capacity in order to move to a very—very tight supply reserve situation to one that allows for more than adequate reserves to ensure supply, reliability and competitive pricing,” he said. he also said if the case was not filed, Meralco would have finished the plant in late 2015 or early 2016, helping boost the low estimated reserves. ”It’s water under the bridge, but if it wasn’t due to the case, we would have brought in the plant by the later part or this year or early 2016, which will continue to be a period of thinning reserves,” Reyes said. The SC upheld the project’s Environmental Compliance Certificate (including its 1st and
2nd amendments) and Lease & Development Agreement with the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority." Te said the Court decided to set aside the ruling issued by the Court of Appeals on Jan 30, 2013 and its resolution dated May 22, 2013, which granted the petition to issue a "Writ of Kalikasan" versus the Redondo power plant. Except for Associate Justice Francis Jardeleza and Associate Justice Arturo Brion, all other magistrates backed the decision. Jardeleza requested to inhibit due to his former role as solicitor general, while Brion was on leave. The project was stalled in 2012 after party list representatives and some local groups filed a case against the power plant, citing environmental damage.
The Writ of “Kalikasan” was penned in 2010 by the Supreme Court to protect the constitutional right to a balanced and healthful ecology. The Supreme Court forwarded the case to the Court of Appeals (CA) to give out the judgement, which it gave in Jan 2013 – deciding in favor of the petitioners. RP Energy appealed yet again to the CA on May 2013, but was denied the request. On July 2013, Meralco filed another appeal, through a Motion for Review to the Supreme Court. In November, Meralco Senior Vice President Angelito Lantin argued that the RP Energy project was already awarded the Environmental Compliance Certificate (ECC), when the Writ of “Kalikasan” case was filed. The BATTLE for MANILA also known as the Liberation of Manila, was fought from 3 February to 3 March 1945 by American, Filipino, and Japanese forces, and was part of the 1945 Philippine campaign. The one-month battle, which culminated in a terrible bloodbath and total devastation of the city, was the scene of the worst urban fighting in the Pacific theater, and ended almost three years of Japanese military occupation in the Philippines (1942–1945). The city’s capture was marked as General Douglas MacArthur’s key to victory in the campaign of reconquest. On January 9, 1945, the Sixth U.S. Army under Lt. Gen. Walter Krueger waded ashore on Lingayen Gulf and began a rapid drive south. Three weeks later on 31 January, the Eighth United States Army of Lt.
Gen. Robert L. Eichelberger, consisting of the 187th and 188th Glider Infantry Regiments of Col. Robert H. Soule, components of the U.S. 11th Airborne Division under Maj. Gen.

Japanese defense As the Americans converged on Manila from different directions, the bulk of the defending Japanese troops had earlier engaged on a tactical move to the outskirts on orders of General Tomoyuki Yamashita, commander in chief of Japanese forces in the Philippines. Yamashita had withdrawn his main forces to Baguio City, where he planned to hold back the Filipino and U.S. forces in northern Luzon, poised for the invasion of Japan. In 1941, General Douglas MacArthur had declared Manila an open city before its capture.[3] Although Yamashita had not done so in 1945, he had not intended to defend Manila; he did not think that he could feed the one million
city residents and defend a large area with vast tracts of flammable wooden buildings. Gen. Yamashita had originally ordered the commander of Shimbu Group, Gen. Yokoyama Shizuo, to evacuate the city and destroy all bridges and other vital installations as soon as any large American forces made their appearance. However, Rear Admiral Iwabuchi Sanji was entrusted with the holding of the city, and he was committed to defending it to the last man. Prior to being promoted to admiral, Sanji had commanded the battleship Kirishima in 1942 when it was sunk by a US Navy task force off Guadalcanal. Feeling shamed at having lost a warship, he felt the need to redeem himself and so he ordered his Manila Naval Defense Forces, a motley assembly of sailors, marines
and Army troops, into the city. They discovered several good defensive positions, including Intramuros and other nearby buildings. After blowing up every outlying facility of even marginal value, like bridges and footpaths, Iwabuchi had set up minefields, barbed wire, interlocking trenches, and hulks of trucks and trolleys, to create bottlenecks and traps. He then ordered his ragtag troops into the defensive zone. Before the battle began, he issued an address to his men which went: “We are very glad and grateful for the opportunity of being able to serve our country in this epic battle. Now, with what strength remains, we will daringly engage the enemy. Banzai to the Emperor! We are determined to fight to the last man.”

Bakit ka late? “Traffic.” Bakit hindi ka pa tapos sa work or assignment mo? “Dami kong ginagawa, busy masaydo.” Bakit ka kapos sa iyong kinikita at lubog sa utang? “Liit ng sweldo o allowance.” Gusto mo ba malaman ang tunay na dahilan? Being late is a habit! Not finishing your work is a habit! Not having enough and being in debt is a habit! In other words, HABIT LANG YAN! Madalas ka rin bang uminom, manigarilyo, magsugal, mag-party, — hmm, sounds familiar ba? How about biting of nails, eating junk food, non-stop facebook-ing, or spending too much time on TV? One thing that is common among these examples they are ALL BAD HABITS. Paano naging BAD? Simple lang, kahit anong sobra, makakasira sa tao, o makakaapekto sa ibang tao kapag paulit-ulit mo itong ginagawa, at naapektuhan na iyong trabaho o pag-aaral mo. Meron akong kakilala na lumaki sa isang all boys school; at bilang mga feeling binata at malalakas ang loob, sinubukan nila ang pakiramdam ng umiinom ng alak maski 16 palang sila. Ang reason nila, wala namang masama, “Tikimtikim lang.” Enjoy daw nila yung thrill na nagagawa nito, kasi tatakas sa magulang, ginagamit ang baon pambili, dadalin ng patago sa school, at pag nalasing, hindi na nakakapasok sa klase at nakakalimot. Hanggang sa gumraduate sila sa pag-iinom at nag explore na ng yosi, from yosi to marijuana, to shabu until naging adik na. Ang feeling nila na pwede nilang tigilan ang pag-iinom, pag-yoyosi o pag-drodroga anytime they
like. But the problem is, na hook na sila at hinahanap na ng kanilang sistema. Pero paano ba ito nagsimula? Sa patikimtikim, until such time naging HABIT! Kahit anong ginawa niya ay parati niyang sinasabi na, “AYOKO NA TALAGA NG BISYO.” Titigil lang ng ilang araw, pero babalik din ito kung tinawag na ng kanyang addiction. And IT HAS ALREADY BEEN A VISIOUS CYCLE FOR HIM. Many of us have tried to change a bad habit, but were unsuccessful, until such time we admit that we have a problem and we ask for help, then that is the time we can start changing. Kung gusto mo ng makawala sa bad habit mo, these are some of my tips for you. ADMIT YOU HAVE AN ADDICTION PROBLEM Aminin mo na addicted ka na sa ginagawa mo. Whether we like or not, we are all addicted to something. Ang tanong lang, kung good or bad? Until such time na aaminin natin na may issues tayo, hindi ito maayos. Mahirap gamutin ang isang taong may sakit, kung hindi niya aaminin na wala siyang karamdaman. ASK FOR HELP Humingi ka nag tulong sa tao at sa Diyos. Sa totoo lang, hindi mo kayang magbago! Kung kaya mo, matagal mo ng naayos yan. The reason wala pa ring pagbabago is because you are still fixing and doing it on your own. You need people who can help you stop and walk it out. People who you can be accountable to. You need also God, to step in your life, to help you to walk it out! ADJUST TO A NEW HABIT You must form a new habit, then the new habit will form us. It’s Foundation Days fever once again I don’t know about you dear reader but everytime my alma mater celebrates its Foundation Day, I still feel ecstatic even to this year. During our youth and even during the time that we’ve graduated already, Foundation Days are something to look forward to. In the campus, you’ll see the ladies in their sexy Sunday’s best, there are blind dates where a complete male and female stranger are cuffed to each other while they stroll around the campus with their respective friends gleefully taking their pictures, there are barbecue, tsitsirya and souvenir stations all around, there are free movie walk-ins, there’s a horror house, there
are rock shows by schoolbased bands and there’s a dance party and fireworks at night. 2015? Nope, I’m describing Foundation Days during my youth and that was 20 years ago. Well not much has changed since then except obviously the technology and the ever changing genre of music that the new generation jives to. Of course, there were no LED lights then, there were no cellphones back then. So why am I feeling the nostalgia? Because in this love month of February, four huge institutions of higher learning here in Cagayan de Oro are celebrating their Foundation Days. The first is my sixth grade alma mater, Liceo

The third is the alma mater of my crush Sheila Maibee, Lourdes College. The fourth is the alma mater of my other crush, Capitol University. porary dance competition and MUST Next Top Model Cycle 6. In short, it’s a marathon celebration till night that will start at 12 noon. Elsewhere in the campus, there will be a band festival, Kpop concert, cosplay, acoustic shows, praise jams, hiphop mix and a rave party. There will also be an MSFF Film Festival as well as theater shows courtesy of Circulo de Entablado. It will surely be one blast of a celebration. he Philippines premier basketball league returns to Cagayan de Oro and Northern Mindanao with a bang on Saturday, 21 February 2015 when recently crowned Philippine Cup 2015 champion San Miguel Beermen clash with hitherto undefeated Meralco Bolts in game 33 of the ongoing PBA Commissioner’s Cup at the Xavier University Gymnasium. The 2015 Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Commissioner's Cup, also known as the 2015 PLDT Home TelPadPBA Commissioner's Cup, is the second conference of the 2014-15 PBA season. The tournament allows teams to hire foreign players or imports with a height limit of 6'9" for the top eight teams of the Philippine Cup, while the bottom four teams will be allowed to hire imports with no height limit. The tournament started January 27, 2015 and is set to finish around April 2015. Ticket prices are pegged at P2,000 (courtside); P1,200 (stage); P900 (lower box) and P450 (general admission). “Due to the limited capacity of XU gymnasium and the high overhead costs of maintaining a PBA franchise, we are constrained to maintain the relatively high ticket prices just to break even,” said Robert Dy, president of Buffalo Promotions. “Rest assured when the Cagayan de Oro Convention Center becomes available, hopefully in the near future, we can substantially reduce the ticket prices to more popular levels.” Mr. Dy assured every ticket holder is guaranteed a seat since
all seats will be pre-numbered and they have tightened security against fake ticket holders. In addition, no food and drinks will be allowed to be brought from the outside (these can be purchased inside the XU gym) for security reasons and no one will be allowed back inside the gym once they leave the gym premises for whatever reason. Reinforcing the Beermen in the import-laden conference is 6’8” Ronald Roberts, who is coming off a stint with the Sta. Cruz Warriors in the National Basketball Association Development (D-League) League. In his senior year with Saint Joseph’s, Roberts averaged 14.4 points, 7.4 rebounds and 1.3 blocks. Roberts, 23, is the team’s third option after Arinze Onuaku and backup Eric Griffin chose to try their luck in the NBA. He is expected to fortify San Miguel’s frontline which already has reigning PBA most valuable player June Mar Fajardo and Arwind Santos in tow. But Roberts isn’t merely a replacement import. Shortly before signing with the Beermen, he was named as the D-League Player of the Week for averaging 29.5 points, 13.5 rebounds and
2.0 blocks with the Sta. Cruz Warriors. Also joining the Beermen in the Commissioner’s Cup is big man Jay-R Reyes who they acquired earlier in a three-team deal with the Barangay Ginebra San Miguel Kings and Barako Bull Energy. In the deal, Barako Bull veteran Dorian Peña was sent to Ginebra who in turn gave up Reyes to San Miguel. The Beermen then released reserve Justin Chua to the Energy. Meralco, for its part, has been given a jolt by 6’ 8” Josh Davis, 24, (22 points, 21.5 rebounds and five steals in 39.5 minutes) while also getting steady firepower from leading scorer Gary David (23 ppg). The Bolts made some offseason moves prior to the start of the season. They acquired "El Granada" Gary David from GlobalPort in exchange for Chris Ross, Chris Timberlake and Meralco's 2016 and 2017 second round picks. They also traded Asi Taulava to Air21 for Mike Cortez, shipped Mark Cardona to Air21 via a three-team trade and acquired Rabeh Al-Hussaini. They also traded Jay-R Reyes for Kerby Raymundo from Ginebra. Raymundo has yet to play for the Bolts since he was traded because of a nagging knee injury, and is contemplating retirement. Midway thru the eliminations, they signed up Danny Ildefonso for the rest of the conference, who was unceremoniously let go by Petron. After realizing that Danny I still has what it takes to play, and can still help the team in terms of his leadership and positive influence, the Bolts signed him for the rest of the season.
