Dengue in Caraga continue to swell By PAT SAMONTE Regional Editor-Caraga
BUTUAN City––Death toll from dengue has swelled to 28 in Caraga Region as cases rose to 5,887 from January 1-October 11, 2014 up by 115 percent from 2,730 cases reported for the same period last year. The Department of Health in Caraga said the fatalities came from Butuan City – 8, Bislig City – 6, Surigao del Sur – 4, Cabadbaran City – 3, Agusan del Norte – 2, Agusan del Sur – 2, Surigao City – 2, and Bayugan City – 1. It said four cases were reported from October 1-11, 2014 mostly from here where clustering of cases were detected from September 7-13, 2013 in Barangays Ampayon and Baan, Km. 3. The suspect dengue cases were reported in Butuan City with 1,304 cases, See dengue, page A7

‘Black Shadow Gang’ lurks in the city’s public schools By CRIS DIAZ Executive Editor
CAGAYAN de Oro City–– The City Council in this trading hub of 800,000 people has expressed the alarm over the existence of a shadowy gang of school children known as “Black Shadow Gang.”
City Councilor Ramon Tabor, chair of the council committee on police, fire, and public safety, said that the city government should act immediately to contain, if not, totally ban the “Black Shadow Gang” that now exists in various elementary public schools here. Citing police reports,
