is building the biggest power project in Mindanao--a 405-MW Circulating Fluidized Bed coal thermal plant at the Phividec Industrial Estate in Villanueva, Misamis Oriental. The FDC Misamis power plant will utilize state-ofthe-art clean fuel technology and is expected to start commercial operations by 2016.

Customs bureau clarifies reports of alleged smuggling

CAGAYAN de Oro City––The Bureau of Customs in Region 10 clarified on Friday, in response to radio reports, that there was no smuggling of cars from the Middle East. Lawyer Roswald Joseph J. Pague of the BOC-10 said there was no truth to the reports of smuggling aired over a radio
station in Cagayan de Oro City since Monday last week because the shipments passed through proper channels of the customs bureau in the region. Surigao measles cases rise By PAT SAMONTE Regional Editor-Caraga
BUTUAN City--The Department of Health in Caraga has reported an increase in measles cases in Surigao City. The Regional Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit (RESU) said that based on reports from different monitoring units, measles cases climbed to 172 as of May 16, 2014 from 78 on May 6, 2014. DOH-Caraga had sent a team of vaccinators and surveillance staff to augment logistics and manpower to control the spread of the virus in the city. Regional Director Minerva Molon said the vaccinators were deployed in priority areas to cover 6-59 months old children. The measure was to increase and make catch up with unvaccinated target population for measles virus protection. At the same time, a team was assigned to monitor See measles, page 11
