MNLF remains dormant, but monitored, says 4ID

CAGAYAN de Oro City––The Philippine Army’s 4th Infantry Division has allayed fears that MNLF forces in Northern Mindanao will join the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF), following the announcement of the MNLF-Misuari faction that it has entered into a tactical alliance with the BIFF and intends to fight against government forces side-by-side with the renegade BIFF. Calling the merger of the two Moro forces as an “organic reunification,” the Nur Misuari faction of the MNLF admitted earlier that it has formed an ‘informal’ tactical alliance with the BIFF, and has vowed to assist the BIFF if the military continues to push the renegade group into a corner.

Capt. Christian Uy, spokesman of the 4th Infantry Division based here in Cagayan de Oro City, said the MNLF forces holding base in Northern Mindanao remain dormant and are not participating in the armed struggle of the MNLF Misuari Faction.

Capt.Uy said this was also manifested during the Zamboanga siege, where they proclaimed no participation and, instead, stayed on their AORs. The MNLF in Northern Mindanao is not expected to sympathize with the MNLF Misuari Faction, but the military still monitoring

their activities and movements.

“Judging from our monitoring, there is no indication of hostile attack,” said Capt. Uy. But he said the army remains on heightened alert despite no sightings of BIFF trying to enter the 4ID’s AOR. Meanwhile, the 4th ID is expecting additional troops to arrive the 4th ID after having been considered s a “priority area” due to the presence of New People’s Army in its AOR. The additional troops are composed of 4th scout rangers and will be deployed to CARAGA Region and Bukidnon province, where the 23rd Infantry Battalion has also been made fully operational, Uy said.

The Scout Rangers deployment to Mindanao was the result of “diminishing communist rebels in the Luzon area,” Capt. Uy said.

Pinoy urged to solve extrajudicial killings

MISAMIS ORIENTAL – A farmers group on Tuesday sought the intercession of President Benigno Aquino for the early resolution of the killings and harassments of farmers in Bukidnon.

The Kahugpungan sa Maguuma sa Bukidnon (KASAMA), a militant farmers group, denounced the latest killing of its organizer, Julieto Lauron, 41 years old, married with four children of Purok 9, Barangay Kahaponan in Valencia City, Bukidnon last week.

Danilo Menente, chairperson of KASAMA in Bukidnon, said that two unidentified ridings in tandem gunmen shot dead Lauron and wounded Nermie Lapatis, 41, also a KASAMA organizer, on the morning of February 5, 2014.

“We have the suspicions that the killing of Lauron and wounding of Lapatis were carried out by “state agents” since the execution was done a few meters away from the Valencia Police Station,” Menente said.

According to Menente, Lauron and Lapatis have been instrumental in resolving issues involving agrarian reform conflict in Valencia, Bukidnon

Menente said that the human rights violation in Northern Mindanao has alarmingly increased since mid-April last year and urged the Aquino government to adopt measures to resolve the killings and harassments.

Fr. Rolando Abejo, of Church Peasant Solidarity, said that since April 2013, “we received almost daily with reports of threats, harassments, and surveillance of farmers in the countryside that never happened in the past.”

The KASAMA, as a cause oriented farmers’ group, have been fighting for genuine land reform and just wages for workers in the agricultural sector in Northern Mindanao, Wildon Barros of the Bagong Alyansang Makabayan in the region said.

The KARAPATAN, a human rights advocate in Northern Mindanao, reported that their group has documented 14 cases of “trumped up charges” against innocent farmers, civilians, farmer advocates.

Of the 14 cases, five have been detained with various criminal offenses of which the victims denied any knowledge, the KARAPATAN reported.

From January to February 11 this year, KARAPATAN has already listed 15 incidents of alleged violations against small farmers, indigenous people, and urban poor dwellers.

Across the country, the total of 156 alleged extra judicial killings, 169 frustrated killings, 18 enforced disappearances, and 358 illegal arrests and detentions, the KARAPATAN said. CRIS DIAZ, Exec. Editor, MDN

they spotted him driving his motorcycle near the school gate but managed to escape unhurt during the wild chase on a busy traffic morning.

Police could not yet establish the motive of the ambush and the killing of the hitman whom investigators recovered a .45 caliber pistol at the crime scene as they were puzzled upon learning that Alberca and Narca joined a team together with 10 policemen to verify and supposedly confiscate illegally cut Falcatta logs inside the Mt. Magdiwata watershed on Wednesday.

But Elmer Luzon, SFWD general manager, believed Alberca could be linked to the illegal logs since they already have previous complaints against him over illegal logging activities.

Narca disclosed he had heated confrontations with Alberca in the past and at one time the latter tried to pull his gun tucked on his waist that stemmed from the apprehension of illegal logs inside the watershed initiated by SFWD. The supposed confiscation of Falcatta logs the other day did not push

through as foresters from Community Environment and Natural Office of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources did not scale and conduct inventory of the felled logs even as the team reached the area.

Luzon lambasted the DENR men for their futile task saying they are supposed to be the lead government agency mandated to be responsible in carrying out environmental laws. “These government foresters are inutile and they just went to the area as if they were just having excursion.”

It was Narca and his team who caught redhandedly last week three persons illegally cutting down falcatta trees with a chainsaw near Sumogbong creek at the upper portion of the mountain.

Narca said the illegal tree cutting activities is located just about 200 meters below the ridge where tension cracks with a perimeter of a hectare were discovered by the same team early last month.

Narca’s men tried to stop a certain Titing Pintado, leader of the illegal tree

cutters, from felling down the trees but merely ignored them and angrily shouted back that they have cutting permit issued by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources kept by his elder brother Judito Pintado.

But Judito Pintado, who is facing illegal logging and illegal mining charges lodged by SFWD, said the cutting permit is still on process at the DENR- Community Environment and Natural Resources Office.

Pintado has been insisting that several parcels of 20-hectare land inside the mountain are owned by their family and is outside the delineated area of the 1,658-hectare forest reserve and watershed area declared through Presidential Proclamation 282.

He showed a different map to prove it is already outside the watershed perimters said to be issued

by DENR Caraga office but a verification map approved and issued by then DENR Caraga regional director Elias Seraspi showed that the land claimed only through tax declaration is covered within the watershed area.

Usually the man with a strong feeling of superiority makes very little contribution to the organization, he deludes himself with imaginary achievement or he is actively destructive.

Which could be improved, in drawing ? If most of the result were unsatisfactory , then were the mistakes made in defining the goal, in drawing up the plans or in putting the plans into effect.

Incentives constitute another important factor.

Psychologists come to a conclusions, their experiments show that the individual works when he feels satisfaction accompanying the desirable response and dissatisfaction. In applying these principles to the workplace, it is important that a person should be rewards as he knows specifically what he has done. It is even more important that he understand exactly what course of action or behavior credit or discredit.

Cost of living went wild A two-bedroom apartment in the Philippines, which cost a renter P800 a month many years ago is now P5, 000 a month plus electric power and water.

This cost varies depending on the location of the structures. Rice per kilo is P45.

“Galunggong”, a poor man’s fish which used to be one peso a pound is now one hundred pesos. The minimum jeepney fare is nine pesos. Prices of merchandise in superstores, department stores and malls run by the thousands of pesos. Everywhere you look from north to south as well as east to west inside a mall only shows the cost of living

ployment opportunities in the country, thousands have gone abroad to try their luck.

It was a good thing there are Saudi Arabia, the Middle East, the USA, Canada, and elsewhere that accommodates us and the money they send back home form part of the large income of the country. And these Filipinos in foreign lands have petitioned their relatives to follow them, thus an exodus of our brothers departs nearly every day in various airports. Many have found better chances in their new homes and had even abandoned their original citizenship.

They are hurt of the great corruption taking place in the country, the bickering of leaders, the display of unexplained wealth by some unscrupulous members of congress. Instead of these people creating ideas that could lead to the solution of problems and deprivations, they go fighting and even exposing their sins of the people. Some of them have become objects of curses and hatred by the taxpayers some of whom even went up to the hills to join the rebels.

Abu Sayyaf rebels ambushed marines

AMBOANGA CITY – Gunmen ambushed a group of marines and killing one soldier and wounding at least three more in the southern Filipino province of Sulu.

The soldiers were returning to their base from a tree planting activity in the town of Parang when gunmen attacked them, sparking a firefight that killed the marine.

It was unknown if there were casualties on the side of the gunmen and no group claimed responsibility for the attack, but the military blamed the ambush to the Abu Sayyaf rebels.

Just recently, military forces launched an operation to capture Abu Sayyaf gunmen tagged in the spate of kidnappings in Sulu.

Marines had earlier clashed with rebels under Sihata Latip and Abraham Hamid in Talipao town that left at least 9 Abu Sayyaf gunmen dead and wounded and one of the slain has been identified as Rakib Jal.

Troops also captured a rebel encampment on a remote village used by the Abu Sayyaf to launch attacks on civilian and military targets in the province.

The camp was being used by Abu Sayyaf leaders Sibih Pisih and Idang Susukan. It was unknown if there were weapons or bombs in the base which is now being held by the Marine Battalion Landing Team 2.

Several government militias who are members of the Barangay Peace Action Team were also wounded and that two of them - Niko Minuddin and Sabor Sasapan - had been evacuated to Zamboanga City for emergency medical operation, local police said.

Last month, provincial police forces led by Senior

Superintendent Abraham Orbita clashed with a small band of Abu Sayyaf gunmen that eventually swelled to about 400 after armed supporters of the terror group attacked them in the village of Tanduh Bato in Luuk town.

The fighting was so fierce that Orbita’s group, backed by a pair of armoured carriers, managed to hold their ground until police reinforcement arrived, but the gunmen broke into smaller groups and dispersed.

ZAMBOANGA CITY – An official of the Private Schools Athletic Association (PRISAA) has assured that the athletes participating in the f ive-day sports competition are all physically fit to play.

The five-day sports event reeled off Wednesday and is set to end Sun-

day. It is being held in Dipolog City, the capital of Zamboanga del Norte.

PRISAA National Executive Director Elbert Atilano issued the statement Wednesday amid questions surrounding the death of a young amateur boxer last year during an athletic event in Central

Luzon.

“Before they play, the athletes undergo medical examination since it is a requirement in PRISAA,” Atilano said.

Aside from that, Atilano said they have standby ambulance with corresponding medical personnel to respond to

any untoward incident during the athletic competition.

He said they also employ professional referees from the National Sports Association to ensure zero accident while officiating the PRISAA games.

He said that thousands of athletes are participat-

ing in the ongoing regional PRISAA meet, which has 14 sports events.

He said the athletes are from private schools located in the cities of D apit an and Dip olog , Z amboanga del Norte; Pagadian City, Zamboanga del Sur; Isabela City, Basilan; and, this city. (PNA)

Budget hike pushed for Davao’s nutrition office DAVAO City––The incidences of malnutrition in the city has pushed some councilors to suggest increasing the budget of the City Health Office’s Nutrition Office.

A presentation by Action Against Hunger (ACF International)’s Celna Tejare showed that there were 6,666 cases of moderate and severe acute malnutrition in the city as of 2013. Tejare presented the information at the Sangguniang Panlungsod’s privilege hour last Tuesday.

According to the World Health Organization, severe acute malnutrition “is defined by a very low weight for height (below -3z scores of the median WHO growth standards), by visible severe wasting, or by the presence of nutritional edema.”

Meanwhile, moderate acute malnutrition “is defined as a weight-for-height between -3 and -2 z-scores of the median of the WHO child growth standards without edema.”

The data showed that the highest incidences of severe and moderate acute malnutrition occurred in the 2nd district, with 753 and 1,775 cases recorded in 2013, respectively.

According to data collected by ACF and the CHO, the budget for treating children with severe acute malnutrition has reached up to P10.2 million, with P6.5 million to cover medicines, measuring tools, trainings, and meetings and P3.7 million to cover the purchase of 262 height boards and 188

salter scales for the city’s 182 barangays.

However, the City Council learned during last Tuesday’s regular session at the Sangguniang Panlungsod that the budget of the Nutrition Office for the entire year was only around P6 million for the entire year.

“P6 million for one year is a non-budget,” Councilor Diosdado Mahipus said, alarmed at the figures presented by the council’s committee on health.

Councilor Jimmy Dureza suggested that the committee raise the budget of the office through a supplemental budget that would be passed by the council, instead of the committee asking for pledges from councilors to add to the CHO’s budget.

The city health budget suffered an upsetting decrease for 2014, according to the city council committee chair on health Mary Joselle Villafuerte in an earlier interview.

Villafuerte said that the city’s health budget should enjoy an annual increase.

The Comprehensive Investment Plan for Health (CIPH), a Sara Duterte-era document outlining the city’s health framework, calls for an increased LGU budget for health, with an increased allocation from 8.3 percent in 2010 to 18 percent by 2016.

According to a copy of the budget report by the council’s finance committee, the City Health Office will be receiving P257 million allocation for calendar year

2014, at 6.2 percent of the city’s total budget.

According to the CIPH document, the incidence of protein energy malnutrition has seen a decrease from 2007 to 2010.

“Nut r it i on a l s t atu s among the 0-71 months old improved from 6.76 percent underweight for age in 2007 to 4.75 percent in 2010. Over the four-year period, 2007-2010, a decreasing trend was noted,” the CIPH said.

There were also less overweight children than the underweight, it added.

“Despite the improvement, there are still districts and barangays with high prevalence of underweight children that deserve attention. Cited problems for the high prevalence include: poverty, poor feeding practices, low awareness on basic nutrition concepts and care giving practices,” according to the document.

Villafuerte said in a phone interview that she will be waiting for a document from the CHO itemizing its offices’ needs so that budget increases may be proposed in time for next week’s finance committee hearing for the city executive offices’ supplemental budgets. (MindaNews)

DAVAO CITY - The Office of the Presidential Assistance on the Peace Process (OPAPP)and the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) have joined forces to mainstream peace and development in local governance.

They conducted two-day Local Peace and Development Assessment and Planning Workshop for each of the provinces of Davao del Norte, Compostela Valley, Davao del Sur and Davao Oriental aimed at updating the status of the peace

process with the CPP/NPA/ NDF and revisiting the existing conflict analysis of the PAMANA province.

Running from Feb. 10 to 14, the planning workshop was also aimed at identifying the gaps and peace building needs based on the conflict analysis as well as resources to address these gaps and proposing of enhancements to the existing PAMANA implementing structures and processes.

The Five Languages of Love

he official love month of the year is here or shall I say it’s only days away for the V-day. Red roses, chocolates, candle light dinner and of course love songs to fill the air to make our valentines with our special someone or love ones really great.

This is the usual scenario right? But what if this is not what makes your love ones really feel loved? Is this possible?

Yes, because each one of us has a different love language and if we are not aware of it or we do not know others’ love language then we can possibly feel not loved.

So just to give you a glimpse of these love languages, here’s a brief explanation of the Five languages of love by Gary Chapman.

1. Words of Affirmation - You love compliments.

Words speak louder than actions. Hearing the words “ I love you “ really means a lot to you , while insults can shatter and leave you broken for a long time.

2. Quality Time - You like undivided attention. I love you means spend time with me. You like quality conversation as you reveal yourself to another person.

3. Gifts - Not because this is your love language

~ Gary Chapman you are already materialistic, you actually thrive to love and the thoughtfulness behind every gift and effort. For you the cost of the gift may not matter at all.

4. Acts of Service - Can washing the dishes be an act of love? Absolutely.

Anything you do to ease the burden of responsibilities weighing on an “acts of service” person will speak volumes. You just like to serve your partner even in the simplest ways.

5. Physical Touch - This doesn’t all mean bedroom.

A person whose primary love language is touch is not surprisingly touchy. Hug, pats on the back, holding hands can all be ways of showing care, concern and love .

Before you discover the love language of your partner, discover yours first by taking a Love language test. Google it and you’ll find many so just choose one.

Knowing your love language and understanding the love language of your partner and love ones can really help your relationship as it has helped me.

If you want to make this love month more meaningful to your love ones, they will surely feel loved if you speak their love language.

ach one of us has a role to play in this world: a good father, a great leader, and a lot more. As for me, I choose to be a simple teacher who loves to teach and share my passion for Rugby.

I admit, I am no Jonah L o m u (t h e f i r s t g l o b a l superstar in Rugby Union) and I will never be like him inside the pitch. But that’s not the only way one can spread love for the sport, especially in a place where almost nobody has ever seen a real rugby ball.

Back i n the United K i ngdom where I st ayed for 27 yea r s, I g rew up playing rugby for my school.

I love how the sport teaches discipline, strategy and team work and of course, the show of strength and agility which every sportsman can relate.

When I came home to the Philippines for a vacation in September 2011, I was lucky to find a rugby team t o t r a i n w it h . My f i r s t team, The Raging Bisons, won 2nd Place in the Plate Division du r ing the f irst ever Rugby 7’s in the 2012

I later joined the Globe Immortals Team and have contributed to Rugby 101 program to teach the sport at the Ultra grounds, which I f i n d q u i t e f u l f i l l i n g.

L ove b r o u g h t m e t o Cagayan de Oro City in June of 2013 and I have settled in this lovely City ever since.

But there was one problem: nobody that I talked to knew anything about Rugby when I first came here. So, I started jogging at Pueblo de Oro carrying my only Rugby Ball, tossing the ball up in the air from 5:30am to 7:00am, with the sole mission of getting a curious jogger to ask what the egg-shaped ball was for.

T h a t p r ove d t o b e a challenge and yes, I got some odd looks from the people who saw me then.

For the next few days I did this religiously and though not havi ng much luck, I didn’t think of giving up on the spor t that has helped me a lot growing up.

A f t e r a fe w d ay s of no luck, I realized I have t o ch a n ge my s t r a t eg y.

Since there was no Rugby club in the local scene, I decided to create one.

So in August 2013, I formed a Facebook Page which I named Cagayan de Oro Rugby Football Club (CDO RFC) hoping to catch the attention of those who are curious about the sport and possibly get them to play Rugby.

I made sure to advertise the Club in different FB Groups, subtly recruiting boys and girls to try playing the sport and practically promoting its history and growth into the mainstream spor ts scene.

Three guys showed up du r i ng the f i rst t rai ni ng session, then became ten and soon enough, we got gi rls i nto t he Tea m.

N o w t h e r e a r e ov e r thir t y members in the Club and counting.

Above all, I am proud that CDO RFC Team has developed a heart for the community through our social advocacy, “Help Change the Life of a Child” providing sports therapy and feeding program to the children of Boys Town in Lumbia, Cagayan de Oro City.

We also advocate the value of charity and goodwill to the community through our “Give Blood, Play Rugby” Program where we donate blood through the Northern Mindanao Medical Center.

Creating and maintaining the CDO RFC was no walk in the park and there is still so much work to be done.

I started the Club with no funds and had to rely on friends to share some of their precious savings so I can run the Club with integrity.

There were paper works to accomplish, fees to pay and plenty of unanswered questions such as, “Where shall we train the kids?”, “Where do we get the balls,

crash pads and cones for t r ai n i ng? ”, “How do we produce the kits?”, “How do we recruit players?” or “Where do we get the budget for rugby development?” and so on.

Most of the answers to t hese quest ion s act u ally cost me my ow n savings and precious time.

Steve Jobs once said, “The only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven’t found it yet, keep looking and don’t settle.”

Tr ue, t he r e we r e challenging obstacles along the way but I chose to do this because I love what I do and I believe that there are talents waiting to be discovered.

Now I can proudly say that af ter f ive months of training under the sun or rain, CDO RFC is ready to take on another milestone: compete in a real game against more exper ienced teams.

Luzon films to lead 6th Cinema Rehiyon last screening day

hat more can you ask for from 35 films under 6 different programs showing at three venues in just one day?!

Films from Luzon are going to dominate the last screening day, February 21, of the sixth installment of Cinema Rehiyon, the festival dubbed as “a detour from the mainstream films,” under the leadership of Hobart Savior, the director of Xavier University’s Xavier Center for Culture and the Arts (XCCA).

Moviegoers will have a glimpse of the different sides of the various cultures, stories and languages of the North with themes focused on social issues.

Under the banner of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), the event, with the theme, “Filming the Frontiers” forms part of the National Arts Month (NAM) celebration.

Cinema Rehiyon is one of the few festivals in the country seeking to educate and empower the Filipino audience with pride for local culture and artistic works that exist outside the realm of the capitalistic mainstream cinema.

“We need to get the word out that our culture— the Filipino culture— is much more complex, much more diverse and richer than those being shown in the commercial films,” shared Dr Miguel “Mike” Rapatan, chairman of NCCA’s National Commission on Cinema.

Luzon Amihan In the morning of Feb 21, films under the program, Luzon Amihan will be shown at SM City Cagayan de Oro Cinema 3, from 9a.m. to 12 noon.

The list comprises “Onang”

by JE Tiglao from Pangasinan, “Translacion” (Translation) by Christian Tablazon from Tarlac, “Kintoman” (Red Rice) by Martin Masadao from Baguio, “Dupinga” by Glenn Abesamis from Nueva Ecija and “Peter, Carving” by Anna de GuiaEriksson, also from Baguio.

Based on the synopsis of Tiglao’s “Onang,” the story is about a 12-year-old girl named Onang (Yssa Ramos) who found herself at the doorstep of reaching her dreams – to become a performer. She went to a different city (Manila) with high hopes of realizing her dreams and living a new life.

Kapampangan films For this year’s Cinema Rehiyon, Pampanga has 8 films to offer for the moviegoers under the segment, Fiesta Kapampangan.

The roster includes the animated film, “I Pau at I Matsin” (The Turtle and The Monkey) by Leonardo Calma Jr, “Kumpisal” (Confession) by Clarklouis Sanchez, “Cabatingan” (Misplaced)

by Brianne Amparado, “Coup de Grace” (Blow of Mercy) by Petersen Vargas, “Ing Guinu Mu” (Only God Knows) by Bor Ocampo, “Sulat” (Letter) by

CineMulat For the CineMulat-Luzon (the festival’s platform for controversial films) solely has “Augustia” (Out of the Depths)

by Christian Sendon Cordero.

“Augustia” is a psycho-drama film, written and directed by Cordero, a Palanca winner.

This film from Bicol will be aired at Xavier University Little Theater (XULT), 5-7:30p.m. An audience-filmmaker interaction will follow to discuss the themes behind the film.

Full-lengths Ultimately, full-length films will be shown at another venue, SM City Cagayan de Oro Cinema 4, from 9a.m. to 5p.m.

Mes de Guzman’s “Ang Kwento ni Mabuti” (The Story of Mabuti) from Nueva Viscaya will be the first offering of the program.

Guzman’s film was his first collaboration with the awardwinning actress Nora Aunor.

It was shot entirely in Aritao, Nueva Viscaya and used Ilocano language in the whole movie.

The list also includes “Purok 7” (Zone 7) by Carlo Obispo from Tarlac, “Babagwa” (The Spider’s Lair) by Jason Paul Laxamana and “Debosyon” (Devotion) by Alvin Yapan from Bicol. *** There will be an open forum between the filmmakers and the audience after each program.

Teacher’s Realization

Teacher has positive and powerful role models of the values in the pursuits of learning and of the effort to learn, teacher must always see that their students can appreciate this value by implementing school policies and procedures demonstrating punctuality, maintaining appropriate appearance and must be careful about the effect of their behavior on students.

Accordingly, “Role Model” is not just an appropriate term to describe teachers. Being a teacher is not a role that one plays, it is a life that one lives.

Teaching is the most meritorious of all deeds, because I am one of those who shape the future of our society. I am one of the Trusted One who teach individuals who are in this divine civilization. As I recall, history told that all founder of world religions are called teachers, they devote their time in teaching and all of them has great contribution in the foundation of our education.

Teaching not only in academic but more on virtues and qualities prescribed by Almighty God somehow, align our services to our obligation to teach and spread the

word of God. Thus, it also mention that teaching is a noble profession, something that we teachers should think and be proud of.

Culture of excellence in the public service….embodies great challenge yet an opportunity for me to perform my duties in a spirit of true servitude and ready compliance. That is to say, that I should be distinguished by goodly disposition and virtuous character.

Be contented with the current remuneration that I enjoy and act with trustworthiness in all my doings. Strive that such conduct and actions should attest to the highest standards of trustworthiness and honesty to a degree of sincerity that is altogether above suspicion and to an integrity that is immune to the promptings of self-interest.

As educator it’s like crossing a bridge of which I shall never return.

So, I should make my mark now or else I’ll never have a chance to engrave my name in the efforts for transformation. At the end of the day, heads up and say I done my very best. Tired but happy and productive.

This was why ITPI did its best to support the Rotary Club of West CdO when it held its Oro Golf Tourney from February 7-9 at the Pueblo de Oro Golf & Country Club in Cagayan

The tournament, which brought together entrepreneurs belonging to the Rotary Club of West CdO, was meant both as a bonding and fund-raising activity.

According to the tournament director, Clifford Roa, proceeds of the event are expected to fund several projects of the Rotary Club chapter.

tain amount will also be set aside to be donated to victims of typhoon Yolanda,” Clifford Roa, who is also the president of the Capitol University Alumni Association, said.

Winners of the tourney bounded away with huge prizes, including a Ford Fiesta, a Panasonic refrigerator, Sharp flat screen TVs, an LG washing machine, and even an overnight stay at the Italian elegant Primavera Residences, the first

eco-friendly condominium development in the city of Golden Friendship.

replaced with epoxy,” she demanded.

Chairman Boligol said that the primary interest of the barangay council was for the road project to be completed in accordance with law and regulations.

CCS on WHEELS – an SBM Funded Project

This is the most essential activity which takes place in the classroom in the lives of the pupils/students in school. Is it Reading with Comprehension? Indeed it is but this time, it is no longer in the classroom but in the different barangays of Cagayan de Oro City with the utmost efforts from the dedicated teachers who extended their whole-hearted support to the children.

“CCS on WHEELS”, is known to be as City Central School on Wheels, was initiated by 24 talented, kind – hearted, intelligent, committed and service-oriented group of teachers who are Reading Enthusiasts whose hearts are made of gold to share their time and expertise towards the children in Barangay 32 as their first recipient.

This is a two-year contract project,

an extension of the Summer Reading Camp which serves as an Outreach Program to the community known as LITER-ACT Program funded by the SBM (School-Based Management) with Nutrition/Feeding Program as a counterpart of the Barangay.

It initially started on October 2013 with 60-70 CCS resident-pupils of Brgy. 32 were all in attendance with the presence of the Barangay personnel. It served as Tutorial in all of the Learning Areas so that these children will be given ample time on their needs for enhancement.

It was also stipulated in this project that the teachers will render their services every last Saturday of the month at 2:00 to 4:00 in the afternoon. May this project become continuous and effective for the sake of God’s children. KUDOS!!!

Last school year 2012-2013, Umagling Elementary School was very glad for its remarkable accomplishments. The completion of its school covered court was one of the toughest tasks that we spearhead despite of the meager resources that we had. Who can imagine, that a very little school with only five teachers and limited parents were able to initiate and successfully make it to its fulfillment without major source of income that can suffice the expenses of that project but with hard work and determination, we can fervently say that everything could be made possible.

This year 2013-2014, the newly purchased Sony Brand New sound system marks another accomplishment of our school history. We dreamed of this sound system so that our clients particularly the children will be satisfied if ever we have our school programs and outside our classroom activities.

If the children felt that they were

recognized during special programs they will be motivated to show more their talents and motivate others to take their part also. I remember one of the parents’ who says “sir dili gyud ko ganahan sauna sa mga presentation sa mga bata kay halos dili nato madunggan ang sunata, pero pagkaanindot sud-ungon sa among mga anak karon kay galanoglanog na ang atong sounds”, that remarks serve as our inspiration that the fruit of our joint efforts is worthy of emulation. We are so thankful for all those hands who labored much for the success of this project. To all the teachers, General Parents Teachers Association (GPTA), and especially the parents who selflessly helped in raising the needed amount in the purchased of the said sound system, we salute you for a job well done. Most of all we thank the Most High for the Divine Intervention and helping us succeed in all our plans, hopes and dreams.
