Moreno faces new graft raps By CRIS DIAZ, Executive Editor
CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY -- The majority block of the local Sangguniang Panglunsod here has readied another graft case against incumbent City Mayor Oscar Moreno this week. City Councilor Prexy Elipe said on Tuesday said that the case stemmed from the improvement of Gaston Park, a public square across the City Hall building in front of the St. Augustine Cathedral, amounting to more than P 10 million. He said that the members of the majority block in the city council have already signed the joint affidavit on Monday. “We are going to file the case with the Office of the Ombudsman any time this week once the Vice Mayor signs the affidavit,” Elipe said. Vice Mayor Ian Acenas, however, failed to sign the joint affidavit because he failed to attend the regular session Monday due to some other business, Elipe said. Once Acenas signs the joint affidavit, the august body will immediately file the graft case versus Moreno, Elipe added. The Commission on Elections office in Cagayan de Oro City has registered only a little over 516 youth since Saturday when it opened a 10-day registration period for the Sangguniang Kabataan elections next year. City election officer Atty. Aleli Ramirez said the low turnout could be due to the youth’s unawareness
that there is SK registration going on from September 20 to September 29. Ramirez said the Comelec office has registered a little over 100 young voters last September 20, close to 400 on September 21 and about 40 on September 22.
