MARAWI City––Dozens of non-government organizations (NGOs) in Lanao del Sur have launched a protest actions against the National Power Corporations (NPC) and the Lanao del Sur Electric Cooperative (Lasureco) over the “lousy” distribu-
tion of power supplies and expensive power rate. One of the protesting NGO leaders Akhan Mangundatu said the rate of electricity in Lanao del Sur is quite expensive even if the source of electricity is sourced from Lake Lanao. Mangundatu said that Republic Act 7160 or the local government code re-
quires that one percent of the income from the local sources go to the national government and that 80 percent will be used to subsidize to lower the cost of electricity but the power rate has remained high. He said the power rate in Lasureco has remained high despite the source of electricity was taken from
Lake Lanao. Meanwhile, local residents in Lanao del Sur have not yet enjoy the electricity despite the court order to reconect the electricity of at least 35 towns. This after the 69KV transmission line––connecting the Marantao, Madalom, See protest, page 11
