MARAWI City––Dozens of non-government organizations (NGOs) in Lanao del Sur have launched a protest actions against the National Power Corporations (NPC) and the Lanao del Sur Electric Cooperative (Lasureco) over the “lousy” distribu-

tion of power supplies and expensive power rate. One of the protesting NGO leaders Akhan Mangundatu said the rate of electricity in Lanao del Sur is quite expensive even if the source of electricity is sourced from Lake Lanao. Mangundatu said that Republic Act 7160 or the local government code re-

quires that one percent of the income from the local sources go to the national government and that 80 percent will be used to subsidize to lower the cost of electricity but the power rate has remained high. He said the power rate in Lasureco has remained high despite the source of electricity was taken from

HE Department of Foreign Affairs newest Regional Consular Office is now open at the 3rd floor of Ayala Centrio Mall in Cagayan de Oro City.

“Today, a new chapter begins as we inaugurate the newest DFA office in this part of the country,” said Rafael E. Seguis, DFA undersecretary for Civilian Security and Consular Concerns during yesterday’s opening rites held at the Centrio Activity Center. The opening rites was graced by Rep. Rufus B. Rodriguez (2nd District, Cagayan de Oro) and Misamis Oriental Governor Yevgeny Vincente B. Emano. Also present were regional directors and heads of offices of local and national government agencies. “This is a testament to the DFA goal of providing quality and dedicated consular services to our people in Cagayan de Oro

and neighboring provinces and regions,” Seguis said. “As we continue to develop an enhance and improve e-passport system in the near future, we are confident that the DFA office here will be able to deliver faster and more effective services that address the needs of OFWs, businessmen, travelers, tourists and students.” “I am particularly grateful to Congressman Rufus Rodriguez and Gov. Bambi Emano for taking time off from their busy schedules to be able to grace this occasion. Thank you for being with us in this historic event. I now declare the DFA Office in Cagayan de Oro formally “OPEN FOR BUSINESS!” Seguis said the DFA Cagayan de Oro Office at Centrio is its 12th mallbased DFA office around the country as the department continues to expand its operations in the shopping malls to provide world class consular services at a convenient and accessible location. “The decision was not difficult to take to work with Ayala Land Inc. to build a first class passport

office for the Kagay-anons and the people of Northern Mindanao. In fact, I am pleased to inform you that under the Public-Private Partnership arrangement, ALI is also hosting the DFA office at the Marquee Mall in Angeles City, Pampanga and Alabang Town Center,” he added. In response, Pamela Mendez, C entrio Mall operations manager, acknowledged Ayala Land Inc’s openness to partner with the DFA for its third consular office. “This will truly make a difference in delivering more effective consular services to the public,” Ms. Mendez said. “It is also a great honor to be an exponent of the government’s innovative direction to enter into Private-Public Partnership.” She said the transfer of the Cagayan de Oro RCO to Centrio Mall is a stalwart collaboration between “our long-established yet expanding corporation and one of our administration’s

service-oriented units.” For his part, Wilfredo C. Santos, DFA assistant secretary for consular affairs, acknowledged “the good work of our Regional Consular Office here in Cagayan de Oro City which has been operational since 23 April 1991.” “Now, under the capable leadership of its current head, Mr. Abdurraheym S. Y. Macud, our RCO personnel are more than ready to continue providing efficient and quality service to the public,” he said. “We are particularly grateful for the presence of the Undersecretary for Civilian Security and Consular Concerns, the Honorable Rafael E. Seguis, who himself is a proud son of Mindanao, particularly hailing from Surigao del Norte.” The new Cagayan de Oro RCO is located at the 3rd floor of Ayala Centrio Mall. OIC Macud said the RCO is open from 10am7pm from Monday to Friday and 10am-6pm on Saturday, with no noon break.

CAMP Evangelista, Cagayan de Oro City––A hot pursuit operation against the communist New People’s Army (NPA) who raided the security headquarters of the Del Monte Phil. in Bukidnon continues, the military said on Thursday. Army Maj. Christian Uy, spokesperson of the Army’s 4th Infantry Division, said that two security guards were killed while the company’s chemical warehouse was burned when

the NPA attacked the Del Monte Pineapple Plantation in Sitio Kiantig, San Jose Quezon, Bukidnon last Tuesday morning. The fatalities were identified as Rey Balon and Reynald Pangkat, all security guards assigned with the Del Monte Plantation. The victims were also burned by the NPA rebels, Uy said. Uy said that the NPA rebels also seized 17 firearms, VHF radios, live ammunition, and burned the security

bunker and plant machinery that include a tractor and four motorcycles. He said that the attack in San Jose, Bukidnon took place apparently to retaliate for the killing of 13 NPA rebels in an armed skirmish with the followers of a tribal chieftain in the town of Prosperidad in Agusan Del Sur last Tuesday. 166 ARBs finish AED course in MisOr., Camiguin

The graduates are members of the agrarian reform beneficiaries organizations (ARBOs) in Laguindingan (Lapad Agrarian Reform and Farmers’ Cooperative) with 28 graduates, Taglimao (Taglimao Farmer’s MultiPurpose Cooperative) with 22 graduates, Indahag (Indahag Agrarian Reform Community Multi-Purpose Cooperative) with 27 graduates, Alubijid (Centro Sampatulog Farmers’ Consumers Cooperative)

with 23 graduates, Balingoan (Kabangasan-MapuaDahilig Agrarian Reform Community) with 29 graduates, Agoho (Agoho MultiPurpose Community) with 23 graduates, and Sagay (Bonbon-Sagay Upland Farmers’ Association) with 14 graduates. The above-mentioned ARBOs in Laguindingan, Taglimao and Indahag are currently engaged in corn production. Those in Alubijid and Balingoan are into cassava, while the ARBOs in Agoho and Sagay are producing abaca. ROSPERIDAD, Agusan del Sur - Mayor Albin Magdamit has announced at least six relatives of the 12 slain communist New Peoples Army rebels have claimed their dead at the local funeral parlor on Thursday noon. Police investigators have released the remains of the

six rebels after the relatives showed sufficient proof of relationship or kinship. He revealed in a live phone interview with local FM station “Lips 106” that the relatives came from as far as Surigao City, Diatagon Village in Lianga town in Surigao del Sur and the remote village of Anislagan in San Luis town

this province. He said other kin were still processing the release of their dead at press time. Magdamit has assured any kin of the slain rebels that they will not be put in jeopardy since the military and police have agreed during the meeting yesterday at the Municipal Crisis Management Committee that their identities will be strictly observed as confidential. “ The families of dead rebels who will claim their remains are not criminally liable that we will process it confidentially so as not to put them in danger,” Magdamit said. At the meeting, Army officials explained Egua and his bagani warriors are

members of Civilian Armed Forces Geographical Unit, a paramilitary group allowed to carry high-powered firearms to participate in the military’s anti-insurgency campaign. Magd am it s ai d t he residents in Sta. Irene, in a survey held on Tuesday afternoon, still wanted the bagani warriors to stay in their place to secure them for any retaliation from the rebels. He however said the baganis had been utilized by Egua to guard the portals of the mining tunnels he operates and also serve as security escorts in his business on buying and selling of falcatta logs. that Egua has maintained at least 60 fully armed private armies with the help of the Army, police and local government units so he can control the mining area in Manhulayan, in Surigao del Sur where they can all profit out of it. “When Calpet became a powerful warlord, he seized the area of other lumad and other mining businessmen. He was able to enlarge his private army to 60 [members] so he can expand and strengthen control logging and mining areas in the boundary of Agusan del Sur and Surigao del Sur,” Malaya said. ARBs of Barangays Ima Upper and Lower Patag will be implementing a lemon grass (tanglad) processing project where oil extracts will be packaged and sold as a health supplement. MALAYBALAY City––The timing says it all. On the same day that President Aquino delivered a tongue lashing directed at the Supreme Court for striking down the Disbursement Acceleration Fund as unconstitutional, Iloilo Rep. Niel Tupas Jr., an administration ally, filed a bill seeking to reform or abolish the high tribunal’s Judiciary Development Fund. In light of how the controversial DAP has drawn flak, Tupas’ bill can only be interpreted as a vindictive measure. He is out not to advocate reform through legislation. He is the designated political triggerman tasked to fire the opening salvo in a war that Malacanang is cooking up against a co-equal branch of government. It’s not that the JDF should not be scrutinized or placed under tighter rules. It’s the fact that Tupas realized such need only after the Supreme Court ruled against the DAP and

Aquino dangled more pork to the House so it would impeach former Chief Justice Renato Corona after the Supreme Court ruled that Hacienda Luisita, for a long time the economic and political backbone of the Cojuangcos of Tarlac, should be distributed to its tenants. Aquino’s allies concealed the true motive of the impeachment by exploiting Corona’s inability to adequately explain the sources of his multi-million cash deposits and properties. The nascent dictator has declared another war with the Supreme Court. Arrogance has blinded him to the reality that the political odds have changed since 2010. PHL cites 7 sectors pushed for investment promotion in Israel MANILA - The Philippines has pushed seven sectors for investment promotion in Israel which include publicprivate partnership projects, manufacturing, energy, tourism, agribusiness, mining, and oil and gas, data obtained from the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) showed. The country also eyes to strengthen trade relation with Israel as it continues to seek market for products such as tuna, fresh and preserved fruits, biscuits, beverages, juices, and noodles in Israel. The data showed that the country has increasing trade transactions

with Israel as well as in investments. In 2012, bilateral trade between the Philippines and Israel was posted at USD 165.24 million with exports revenue of USD 72.76 million and imports bill of USD 92.47. Balance of trade in goods (BOT-G) then registered at USD 19.71 million. But in 2013, total trade between the two countries recorded a total of USD 177.12 million with exports of USD 84.07 million and imports of USD 93.05 million. The Philippines has managed to decrease its trade deficit to USD 8.98 million in the said year.

Israel’s investments to the Philippines last year also increased fourfold to Php 30.01 million over a year ago of Php 5.96 million. Zambo police undergo crime scene investigation training ZAMBOANGA CITY – The local police in partnership with the Regional Crime Laboratory Office (RCLO) is conducting capacity-building training for the police stations to enable them to handle or investigate crime scenes involving minor cases. Senior Supt. Angelito Casimiro, Zamboanga City police officer-incharge, said selected personnel from the Police Station 10 of the Zamboanga City Police Office (ZCPO) were the first to have undergone the capacity-building training. Casimiro said the training in Police Station 10 was held last July 5. “This training will be going through every Saturday until all the (police) stations will be capacitated,” he said. Police Station 10, which has jurisdiction up to the last barangay in the boundary with Zamboanga del Norte, is located in Barangay Labuan. “Every Saturday, the

RCLO and our investigation branch will be going to the di ferent police stations to train our personnel on Scene of the Crime Operation (SOCO) so they won’t be dependent on the RCLO,” Casimiro added. The ZCPO has jurisdiction over 11 police stations covering this city’s 98 barangays, eight of which are island barangays. Fishermen affected by ‘Pablo’ to get fiberglass boats

AVAO CITY – The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources plans to distribute 400 fiberglass boats to Pablo-hit areas, especially in areas in Davao Oriental.

In an interview Tuesday, BFAR Regional Director Fatma Idris said the distribution is patterned after a project that the national office implemented in coastal areas in Tacloban affected by Typhoon Yolanda in 2013.

Idris said each boat costs around P30,000, with initial funding for the project estimated to be around P34 million. She added that the project would be implemented in the next three months. The BFAR official said

that the office is now in the procurement and presentation stage of the project. “We’re looking forward to their reception of the boats, and we will continue the distribution if the recipients like what they receive,” Idris said. She said that the fiberglass boats are easier to mass produce and are sturdier, compared with marine plyboard. Last month, the agency said it would distribute

around 5,000 “Bangkang Pinoy” fiberglass boats to Yolanda-hit coastal areas to help the barangays restart their livelihoods. According to an earlier statement by BFAR, the project aims to give fisherfolk in the Yolanda areas replacement units for those whose boats were destroyed in the typhoon. The project is part of BFAR’s AHON Rehabilitation project, which would distribute 30,000 fishing

boats in Mimaropa, Central Visayas, and Eastern Visayas. “In seven months since the initiative started, AHON! has already covered 1,098 coastal barangays in 102 municipalities and built 24,109 fishing boats or almost 75 percent of the initiative’s target,” according to BFAR. “These fiberglass boats are designed to survive rough seas and keep fishers safely afloat even when

unexpected disasters strike at sea,” BFAR national director Asis G. Perez said in a statement. In May earlier this year, the agency said it had trained around 45 personnel in building fiberglass boats at the National Marine Fisheries Development Center in Sangley Point in Cavite. The Yolanda project included the distribution of fishing gear and motor engines. (mindanews)

Police Supt. Michael Bawayan, chief of police of Ozamiz City, said the city police office has cracked down a total of 54 positive operations on illegal drugs that led the arrest of 115 persons and confiscation of 704 sachets of suspected shabu since the police launched its operation in January, this year. Supt. Bawayan said as a result of the strengthened peace and order campaign of the local government unit and the police and military, operations against criminality, which include those against illegal firearms, gambling and petty crimes, paved the way for the peaceful celebration of the city’s Charter Anniversary. The city’s June 2014 total crime volume went down to 148 from 183 in May 2014. “We attribute the lowering of crime incidents to the aggressive stance of the LGU under the leadership of Mayor Reynaldo Parojinog, Sr. and Vice Mayor Nova Princess Parojinog-Echavez, the PNP and support from the military,” Supt. Bawayan said. As for illegal firearms, the police have arrested 16 persons for violation of R.A. 294, leading to the confiscation of 16 firearms. The police have launched “OPLAN Kuta” to prepare the city not only for the 66th Charter Day but also for business ventures. At least, 60 policemen from the Provincial Public Safety Company (PBSC) have been requested to augment the city police force. The city, which has a population of more than 140,000, has a ratio of 1:2,609. Despite the disparity, the city manages to sustain a successful campaign against criminality in the city. Mayor Parojinog said he wanted to share his experience with other local government units, even as he encourages them to support the police and the military in their effort to maintain peace and order and provide an atmosphere of an emerging business venture. The city has received numerous awards for its campaign against illegal drugs, anti-smoking, nutrition, environment, housing, education, and disaster preparedness, among others. “It’s a tough job. Sometimes we encounter policemen as operators and protectors of video kareras themselves, but we maintain our support to their operations against criminality and anti-insurgency,” Mayor Parojinog said. Mayor Parojinog cited the case of slain Mayor Mario Okinlay of Inpasug-ong who was felled by assasins’ bullets reportedly belonging to the New People’s Army. Mayor Parojinog encourages LGUs to help sustain the campaign against antiinsurgency, “else more and

more local executives will be wasted.” Mayor Parojinog, who personally knew Mayor Okinlay, belongs to the Parojinog clan, famous for their no-nonesense campaign against insurgency in the mid ‘80s. Like Bukidnon, Ozamiz lost some of its local officials to the insurgency. “Ozamiz City is next to Cagayan de Oro in terms of business and we are preparing for it by assuring investors that we have a sound peace and order campaign here,” Mayor Parojinog said. This was confirmed by Department of Tourism 10 Regional Director Catalino Chan III during the coronation Sunday night of the Miss Ozamiz Tourism 2014, at Medina Gymnasium in Ozamiz City. “There is no other way for businesses to go, but here in Ozamiz City due to its being business, transport and communication hub in Misamis Occidental, and this is the reason I am fully supporting our police and the military, including their operations and guarding of the boundaries, strengthening of Barangay Intelligence Network and putting up of CCTVs,” Mayor Parojinog said. He said the activity forms part of BSP’s campaign to encourage circulation of coins. The BSP has noted low circulation of coins, especially of the P10 and P5 denominations, since people are used to saving money through coin banks at home. “The first objective is to get the money, particularly of lower denomination coins, back into circulation; and second is to plant trees for the future generation,” Buenaflor said. He said they are targeting to plant on Saturday a total of 300 trees of hard wood species such as Narra and Mahogany. Tudtod demonstrated remarkable experience as a small entrepreneur who has expanded her business. She started as a cashier of the town’s RMN Quiño Enterprises. She served the company for six years. Her husband was content on earning a fixed income as employee but Tudtod wanted to work harder to have their own business. She quit her job to start a corn farm and later opened a sari-sari store. While farming and running the store, she engaged in the buy and sell business, offering ready to wear (RTW) items to office employees.
