DAVAO CITY -- Three films shot in Mindanao and made by Mindanaoan filmmakers scored big victories at the awards night of the QCinema International Film Festival held Wednesday evening (Oct. 19) at the QCX Museum in Quezon City Memorial Circle. Dabawenyo filmmaker Bagane Fiola was awarded the NETPAC (Network for the Promotion of Asian Cinema) Jury award for his film “Baboy Halas.” While Zamboangeno filmmaker Sheron Dayoc won the top plum of the festival when his film “Women of the Weeping River” was awarded Circle Competition Best film award. ??“For its aesthetically challenging cinematic ??????exploration of the tribulations of the not-sofamiliar ?????indigenous people whose lives are in tune with ??????nature in a mythical way and are attempting a new familial ????and social order.” NETPAC Jury Award said in its citation for “Baboy Halas” which was shot in the ancestral domain of the Matigsalug tribe in Marilog District, Davao City. ??“For bringing mother figures caught in inter-generational ????conflicts in Zamboanga to the scope of classic Greek ?????tragedy, through tremendous talent in directing actors and ????capturing images through subtle, yet sharp framing.” Reads the citation for Sheron Dayoc’s Women See win, page B2
