Manila Teachers Party-List awards Ulirang Guro winners MANILA Teachers Party-List will announce the regional winners of the Search for Ulirang Guro 2016 during the annual celebration of the World Teachers Day on Friday (September 30) in Davao City.

BUTUAN CITY -- Agusan del Norte First District Representative Lawrence Lemuel Fortun has filed a bill to provide a reward system to whistleblowers, protection against retaliatory actions and ensure their security as well.

In filing House Bill No. 00047 entitled “An Act Providing for the Protection of Whistleblowers, Ensuring their Security and Providing Benefits for their Welfare” or the “Whistleblower Protection Act of 2016”, Fortun said the bill “seeks to purge the government of corruption by establishing a framework for whistleblowers and their families.”

University concludes classes of rural dev’t master courses in DAP

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY -- Xavier University (XU) instructors for the Master in Public Management major in Rural Development (MPM-RD) program by the Development Academy of the Philippines (DAP) weaved together course lessons during an integration session on September 14 at the DAP conference center in Tagaytay City.

XU spearheaded the lessons on Asset Reform and Natura l Res ource Governance (AR NRG) and Agricultural Resource and Productivity Tools (ARPT) to the students, who are field work and technical staff members of the Department of Agriculture, Department of Environment and Natural Resources, and Department of Agrarian Reform.

Offered by DAP in consortium with the University of the Philippines - Diliman, Ateneo de Manila University - School of Government, and Xavier University - Southeast Asia Rural Social Leadership Institute (Searsolin), the master’s program employs a blended learning approach, combining face-to-face and online sessions for its classes.

For the first time in the three batches of MPM-RD classes, the face-to-face sessions for AR NRG and ARPT were held at Searsolin from June 23 to July 3.

The sessions also included a cultural community im-

mersion and field trips to relevant sites in Bukidnon and Misamis Oriental.

To conclude and harmonize the AR NRG and ARPT face-to-face and online classes, XU facilitated a review of lessons for the students through lectures, readings, field work, and other course requirements.

In his discussion, XU faculty-in-charge Roel R av a n e r a e n c o u r a g e d the MPM-RD students to deepen their understanding in using relevant tools to enhance agricultural productivity in light of the goal of achieving sustainable and inclusive development amid the food security challenges in Asia and the rest of the world.

Civil society expert Antonio Quizon from the University of the Philippines - Diliman, whom Xavier tapped as the resource speaker on asset reform and natural resource governance, provided a simple yet in-depth take on the “Voluntary Guidelines on the Responsible Governance of Tenure of Land.”

He also tackled the state of fisheries and forests in the context of the National Food Security of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations and the Committee on World Food Security.

The MPM-RD graduation will be held next year.

All teachers are invariably confronted with the challenge in their class of pupils who display a wide array of needs and abilities. Everyone in the class comes from different families, thus, different orientations and different upbringings but are united as one for the common goal of getting the best quality of education from us teachers, from as education facilitators.

Thus, here then teachers must console and must understand every pupil’s behaviour, attitude, ways, and even schemes on responding to various situations.

I, personally, have high regards to the dignitaries and personnel of the Department of Education (DepEd), as through them, in one way or the other, have greatly helped our school children, our young learners achieve their lifelong dream of attaining best and quality education; for without them, without the teachers, these cannot all be possible.

mount that aside from facilitating and supervising learning, we should undeniably promote and foster also the need to remind our beloved teachers to understand pupils. When we say, understand, it includes all aspects of a child growth.

We should not right away judge them based on their physical works and attributes but instead know and understand their situation first.

One of the most effective strategy to understand pupils is by consoling and listening to them. We should inject our empathy and sympathy over their concerns and matters of importance for them to feel that we really understand them and that we really are into their shoes.

This is a must and this is basic and fundamental

in every school, in every class. At most, we should understand our pupils and even comprehend them especially to things and endeavours that needs most our erstwhile comprehension.

By showing our love and affection to them, they would also feel that they are significant, they are important. While it is true that understanding and listening should be mutual in a classroom set-up, we should always instill in our minds that whatever the outcome is, we should not be disappointed, instead we should understand and be aspired and inspired more in doing greatness, great things so that we will harvest also greatness and great things in the future.

We have various roles and responsibilities to play for these things to be achieved.

Take the teachers, teachers are our learning facilitators. That is one of their roles. They primarily function to help pupils learn by imparting them knowledge and by setting up situation in which pupils can and will learn effectively; so as teachers can be parents substitute, they stand as second parents to our pupils, they stand as important guides and factors in duly influencing a pupil’s growth and development.

Thus, this made me appreciate more the organizational structure of the Department of Education. As each of us has different functions and roles, it is envisioned to achieve this Department’s vision of dreaming of Filipinos who passionately love their country and whose values and competencies enable them to realize their full potential and contribute meaningfully to building the nation, I vow and commit to help this vision be realized.

This as I can vouch that indeed this distributed leadership can best help pupils achieve academic success. And I pray success not only to our school but to all of the schools in the Philippines. I pray.

How distributed leadership can help pupils achieve academic success

That petitioners are husband and wife respectively in a marriage performed under Civil rites on August 4, 2004 at Sarangani Province , they converted to Islam faith, of which conversions to Islam were duly registered with this court, both of them can be served with summons and other legal processes relative to this case at their residents at Brgy., Tambler, General Santos, Sarangani Province and Palao, Iligan City respectively..

That said marriage did not last long due to lack of love and affection until the relationship manifested incompatibility and sustained misunderstanding between petitioners and reached the point of irreconcilability and they separated from each other w,they decided to separate live physically in bed and board thereby, executed Memorandum of Agreement in order to formalize their separation. Since their separation , they had never been communicating or supporting either financially or emotionally to each other,neither minding each other affair’s; Petitioner’s seek judicial decree of divorce, thereby, severing their marriage bond on August 4, 2004, so that they will have free hand to do what a single man or woman could do without marital burdens.

Reconciliation between them had already been diligently employed but all proved futile.

It also offers financial assistance in the amount of Php40,000 for thesis writing.

A total of 326 beneficiaries have already been granted with four-year college scholarship grant taking up teaching and teachingrelated courses.

For the last 10 years, Manila Teachers also participated in the Brigada Eskwela through the repair of school tables, armchairs, and the clean-up school buildings in the National Capital Region.

Manila Teachers also launched its college incentive program (CIP), a onetime scholarship program that is transferable to the next of kin of teachers wanting to avail of soft loans.

CDO governance institute facilitates Butuan local gov’t formulation of new vision CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY -- In parallel motion towards Caraga’s sustainable growth and development, a socially-responsive, transparent, resilient, economically vibrant local government of Butuan driven by highly motivated and competent public servants, and empowered citizenry by 2020.

This is the new vision of the Executive and Legislative Agenda (ELA) team of the local government unit of Butuan City formulated during the Strategic Performance Management System (SPMS) seminar-workshop from September 14 to 16, facilitated by the Governance and Leadership Institute (GLI) of Xavier University (XU).

The three-day ELA formulation workshop featured discussions on the LGU’s sectoral issues and problems on social services, infrastructure, the environment, local economy, and institutional systems. From the latter,

the ELA team defined the strategic goals per sector and discussed them with the city councilors for legislative measures.

XU-GLI director Dr. Dixon Yasay led the ELA formulation anchored on the Five Disciplines of Learning Organizations, analysis of local challenges, and in parallel with the directions of the new mayor of Butuan on Real Change Leaders Strategy for Ensuring a Sustainable Good Future.

“The updating of the ELA is necessary as it is term-based along with the tenure of the new local chief executive,” said Yasay.

Yasay also said there are different approaches to update; however, the Department of Interior and Local Government has set the local government framework based on the city’s ‘social contract.’

JCI is the world’s leading global network of young and active citizens composed of entrepreneurs, professionals and government employees and is currently composed of more than 500,000 active JCI members (ages from 18 to 40 years old) and millions of JCI Associates and Senators (Alumni-Graduates after 40 years old) all over the world.

“Davao hosted the National Convention way back in 2005 and tried to bid again in 2012 for the 2015 hosting, but unfortunately, it went to Cagayan de Oro City,” Verne dela Cruz, JCI incoming president for 2017, told members of the City Council here.

Dela Cruz and the other JCI members have asked the councilors to support and endorse the JCI Greater Davao Chapter’s bid to invite the 170 JCI Chapters all over the country consisting of more or less 100,000 members.

“We are asking the JCI members to experience Davao, create memories, build and strengthen brotherhood, to love Davao because truly, Life is here in Davao... Davao Life is Here!,” he said.

City Councilor Bernard Al-ag said if JCI wins the bid to host the National Convention, it will create a great impact since around 3,000 participants are expected to come to Davao City.
