Emano elated over ‘drug free’ prov’l jail Volume VI, No. 101

MISAMIS Oriental--Provincial Governor Yevgeny Vincente Emano on Monday has expressed elation over reports that the provincial jail has finally become “drug free.” Provincial jail warden Dominador Tagarda has reported that the jail personnel failed to recover traces of illegal drugs during a surprise inspection of the province-run rehabilitation center early this month. He said that the jail personnel conducted an operation “Greyhound” on orders of the provincial governor to search for traces of illegal drugs at the provincial jail here. “For the first time, the provincial jail of Misamis Oriental has been cleared of illegal drugs since Gov-

CAMP NAVARRO, Zamboanga City--Government forces have killed in a raid two Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) brigands involved in the high seas’ kidnapping of foreign sailors, a military official announced Tuesday. Maj. Filemon Tan Jr., Western Mindanao Comm a n d ( We s t m i n c o m ) spokesperson, identified the slain two ASG brigands as Nixon Muktadil and his brother, Brown. They are commonly known as the Muktadil brothers. Tan said the Muktadil brothers were killed when troops raided their lair around 5 a.m. Tuesday in Tambulan Island, Barangay Daungdung, Pata, Sulu. Tan said the Muktadil brothers were involved in the series of kidnappings of 26 Indonesians and Malaysians sailors in the high SAYAW SAULOG 2016. Bam eyes probe on status Surprise mandatory of sex education in schools drug test: 4 positive AMID the alarming rise in number of teen pregnancies in the country, a senator has filed a resolution calling for an inquiry on the status of the implementation of reproductive health education in schools. In Senate Resolution No. 169, Sen. Bam Aquino said the Department of Education (DepEd) is tasked by Republic Act 10354 or to develop a curriculum for reproductive health education that will be used by public schools and may be adopted by private schools. In 2013, the DepEd released the K to 12 Curriculum Guide for Health, which
incorporates lessons on Reproductive Health and Responsible Parenthood. “Ngayong tumataas ang bilang ng mga kabataang nabubuntis, nais nating malaman kung ano nga ba ang estado ng nasabing curriculum at kung paano ito itinuturo sa ating mga paaralan,” said Aquino, chairman of the Committee on Education. Based on 2011 to 2014 data from the Philippine Statistics Authority, he said teenage pregnancy in the country is on the rise, with one in every ten women of child-bearing age is a teenager and 24 babies are born
every hour from teenage mothers. “The youth are faced with critical decisions involving sexual and reproductive health that could have a major impact on their lives,” said Aquino. CAGAYAN de Oro City-Four Bukidnon provincial government workers had tested positive for illegal drugs as Gov. Jose Maria Zubiri Jr. vowed to continue with the drug-testing of the province’s more than 2,000 employees. Zubiri said the four employees were among those who underwent the surprise mandatory drug testing conducted last week. The names of the employees or the departments that they are assigned in have not yet been an-
nounced. Prior to the drug testing last week, Zubiri has called for a general meeting with all the provincial staff members but only announced the drug examination on the day of the supposed meeting last week. He said there are still a thousand workers who have not been tested yet as they are assigned in the province’s governmentrun hospitals and in various field offices.
