DepEd Computerization Program

With the legal mandate of promoting the right of all citizens to take appropriate steps in making education accessible to all, DepEd is geared the transformation of education through a computerization program.

Called DCP for short, it aims to provide public schools to compete at par with their private counterparts in as far as appropriate technologies are concerned. Memorandom No. 145 s, 2014 TreeVolution: Greening MindaNOW all teaching and non - teaching personnel elementary and secondary schools were directed to participate in the simultaneous activity last September 26, 2014 in their different respective school with at least 200 seedlings for the noncentral school.

Tangkulan Elementary School teachers which was headed by Proceso Q. Rojo together with the Barangay Councils set foot on the idle land of Barangay Tangkulan planting 200 seedlings. The activity started early in the morning with excitement and the strong desire to reforest the place. Everybody was excited to venture the area which is very stiff and slope. The terrain where we planted the seedlings reminds us to be more cautious of what is happening now a days in our environment. We were so hopeless to see the place where no more shades for us to rest after we planted the seedlings. It was so tiresome and hot with only our towel and hats to protect us under the heat of the sun. Since, we planted the trees with hope and care, the grouped dreamed to see the place again sooner or later fresh and green.

After the tree planting, there’s also no doubt on how the seedlings we planted could eventually minimize the impacts of climate change.

Learning Styles of Students

The best way for a person to learn depends on the person. It is well known that people have different learning styles that work best for them. The best approach for a teacher to take is to address a variety of learning styles with their teaching plan. It is also helpful to encourage students to understand their preferred learning style. By the time students reach the college level it is often assumed that they have figured out the best and most productive way to study to retain information. Of course, this is not correct assumption.

Teachers should make students aware of the various learning styles and encourage them to consider preferred style in studying for holistic development.

Multiple intelligence has been an issue for all educators and psychologists. But alternate views of intelligence also exist that portray intelligence as having multiple forms, whether the forms are subparts of a single broader ability or are multiple “intelligences” in their own

right. For various reasons such this perspective has gained in popularity among teachers in recent years, probably because it reflects many teachers’ beliefs that students cannot simply be rated along a single scale of ability, but are fundamentally diverse (Kohn, 2004).

In the book of Howard Gardner, the proponent of the Theory of Multiple Intelligence “The Disciplined Mind (1999)” He explained the new education approach that he embraced. He departed from traditional educators – in the assumption that such topics need to be taught or assessed in a single way. Gardner believed that students possess different kinds of minds, with different strengths, interests and modes of processing information. This variation initially complicates the job of the teacher, but it can actually become an ally in effective teaching. For if the teacher is able to use different pedagogical approaches, there exists the possibility of reaching more students in more effective ways.

Students rigorously explore powerful ideas from multiple perspectives and sources: texts, images, other people and personal experi-

ences (McTighe, Seif, & Wiggins, 2005). Students captures knowledge and new ideas in their own special way, if teachers offer these information according to the special style of the students, the idea will become very meaningful for them, thus will become a lifelong learning experience. Meaning making classrooms transforms statement “knowledge is power” into reality (McTighe, Seif, & Wiggins, 2005).

Teachers could make a meaning for their instruction if they will cater for specific learning styles of the students, this will let students transform and experience a “slow time”, “fake time’, and “worry time” a meaningful learning experience (Brooks, 2005).

Individual learners have preferred ways of working, thinking and learning. If an individual’s preferred approach to learning tasks is ignored in the ways that a teacher expects them to work, there is distinct possibility that their learning will not progress as efficiently and effectively as it might.

When sought for details, Romero says the project presentation is scheduled on September 23, 2016, just before Mega Harbour’s hosted lunch for Davao Chamber’s members and guests.

It will also be on September 23, 2016, when the Davao Chamber will stage DATE’s parallel event The First Ever Agri Marketing Conference.

Davao Chamber executive director Maan Doromal describes Mega Harbour’s participation in the event as very timely as the focus of this year’s DATE includes exporting.

The Davao Chamber is expecting foot traffic of 10,000 to 12,000 trade visitors.

Their number more than doubled from 4,000 in 2011 to 8,856 in 2015, while sales surged by more than 550 percent from P61.5 million to a whopping P342.8 million over that five-year period.

“The numbers can grow even further as Mega Harbour takes shape and become operational in the few years ahead,” Romero added.

Mega Harbour’s sister firm Harbour Centre Port Terminal (HCPT) in Manila posted phenomenal increases in cargo volume from 3.0 million metric tons to 6.0 million over the past five years.

HCPT’s 1.115-km berth will be increased by another kilometer and its 12-hectare apron and storage area will be expanded by an additional 20 hectares through a reclamation project that will be completed in just a year.

“We are prioritizing port development in our menu of infrastructure and environment projects because of its urgency in the wake of the ASEAN economic integration.

As a responsible corporate citizen, we have to align our priorities with national interests,” Romero quipped, hailing the Davao Chamber for giving this year’s DATE the theme Bridging

the Gap: Global Opportunities for Mindanao’s Golden Crops.

“The theme also speaks of Mega Harbour’s purpose and vision,” Romero added.

It was in 2005 when the city established ‘Diyandi Festival’ as its tourism identity or festival brand name.

The term Diyandi is an Iliganon word that connotes merriment or celebration.

Further, Diyandi is a ritual performed by an all-female group outside the Cathedral during the “Pagpakanaug,” before every novena and before the start of the Komedya, or Comedia de San Miguel, a folk stage play depicting the celestial battle.

The ritual depicts the courtship between a Maranao male and Higaonon female, and culminating into an offering symbolic of their union and bountiful harvest to St. Michael the Archangel.

Also, the ritual aptly describes the peaceful co-existence of Iligan’s tri-people – Maranaos, Higaonons and Christians.

The famous battle between San Miguel and Yawa-Yawa or the devil is depicted by two actors of each Diyandi contingents; the archangel clashing his sword with the demon’s fork until St. Michael steps over his defeated enemy.

What’s interesting is that even though St. Michael is a figure known mostly to Christians, but Muslim brothers also honor him.

The Diyandi Festival 2016 Opening Salvo on September 1 was celebrated with a mass at the Cathedral, followed by a program held in front of the Cathedral, with city officials, the public, and visitors alike, emanating the essence of the month-long celebration.

While City Mayor Celso Regencia in his message has assured that peace and order is a priority of the celebration. Law elements from the government forces, volunteers are in placed to secure strategic areas where events are held.

City Councilor Sorilie Bacsarpa, over-all chairman, Diyandi Festival 2016, City Fiesta Executive Management Board, who is also the committee chairperson on Tourism of the Sangguniang Panglungsod, bared highlights of activities lined up for the month.

She acknowledged the presence of balikbayans who come home, residents, devotees and tourists alike to witness the celebration in honor of the city’s Patron Saint, and enjoy the festive aura this September.

‘Viva Senor San Miguel’ echoes the chants of the Iliganons and the crowd, usually heard as speakers start and end their messages, in any event conducted, praising the patron as the protector.

This year’s stakeholders’ awards in Region XI marks the 13th time that the BSP has awarded stakeholders in Region XI and is the 11th in a series of 12 regional events for this year.

the regional prosecution chiefs, but this time other prosecutors are given a chance to talk with Aguirre.

“He is hands-on and he is willing to listen to us. When he invited him the Secretary readily accepted the invitation,” Umpa said.

During the conference, Umpa said the various RPOs will also present their accomplishments last year.

Among the other concerns discussed during the conference was the lack of prosecutors at the local level, said Umpa.

In Northern Mindanao alone, the Regional Prosecution Office (RPO-10) needs at least 62 prosecutors, Umpa said.

Umpa said the RPO-10 should have 150 prosecutors under its roster, but there are only 88 who are working in the field.

Umpa raised the issue to Aguirre and request that it be acted upon, because it has been pending at the DOJ central office for quite some time now.

He also said RPO-10 has about 44 percent vacancies that must be filled up right away to address the backlog of cases.

Aguirre said the Department of Justice (DOJ) needs at least 4,000 additional manpower.

Justice Undersecretary Erickson Balmes said this is the reason the DOJ is accepting law students as para-legal assistants, even as he said that the best among them will be accepted into the Justice Department upon graduation.

My Idea of a Good Teacher

A good teacher is acquired not born. There are many teachers in the world only a handful of them are good.

A good teacher produces good quality of pupils who are responsive to the socio-economic development of the country. In other words, if the input(teacher) is good the output (graduates) are also good. But good teacher has to use varied strategies, approaches,techniques,processes,e tc in order to mold his pupils to become good citizens of the country who can respond to the changing needs and problems of the society. The role of a good teacher can be fully understood by presenting the paradigm.

Input (teacher) is the independent variable which serves as stimulus variable that is manipulated to determine the relationship of the moderate and dependent variables.

Throughput (Strategies,Approaches,Techniques,Processes ,Methods,etc) are the moderate variables which ascertain if they alter or change between te independent and dependent variables.For example, if a good teacher is interested to produce good quality pupils he should use varied strat egies,approaches,techniques,processes, and methods with teaching aids and devices which suit the subject matter in order that he can deliver the goods and services to his pupils effectively and efficiently.

Through these throughputs like strategies,approaches,techni ques,processes, and methods of teaching introduced to improve instruction, changes of attitudes, behavior,ideas,skills,etc.

Of his pupils are attained.. Output(PUPILS) as dependent variable which is observed and measured to determine the effect of the independent variable (TEACHER) Qualities of a Good Teacher A good teacher possesses the qualities of the acronym GOOD TEACHER, G stands for generous, O, obedient, O, observant, D, dedicated, T, talented, E, efficient, A, active, , creative,H, honest, E, effective, R, research-oriented..

Generous in the since that he is extending services to his pupils, parents and people in the community without expecting any return at all.

Obedient a good teacher is obedient i following the policy of the Dep ED THRUST and school policy.

Observant a good teacher is a keen observer of the current trends and issue in education in order to keep track of the current methodologies of teaching by purchasing new books,and subscribing journals, magazines,newspaper,etc.

By doing so, he can introduce innovations to improve instruction, research and extension.

Dedicated a good teacher teacher is dedicated to his service with out counting the number of hours rendered in school. He is punctual in reporting for duty and the last to go home.

Talented a good teacher has a special natural ability or aptitude, hence he must be versatile in order to develop his special talents.

Efficient a good teacher does things right, hard working and industrious.

Active a good teacher is participative in all activities in school, church and community.

Creative he is original in his creative works so that innovations can be introduced as products of his creative work to improve class instruction.

Honest in thought, in words and in deed.

Effective in delivering the goods and services to the pupils by using varied teaching aids and services and simplifying the Strategies,Approaches,Techniques,Processes, & etc.

Research Oriented he must be a research oriented so that the results of his studies can be useful to improve instruction, research, and extension and production.

NGCP exceeds performance targets for 7th straight year

SYSTEM operator, NGCP, reports a sustained improvement in its performance for the seventh straight year, after exceeding performance targets set by the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC).

NGCP’s FOT registered significant improvements in all major island grids in the country. In Luzon grid, FOT decreased by 73% from 4.265 in 2009 to 1.1380 in 2016; Visayas grid by 86% from 3.6260 to 0.5168; and Mindanao grid by 67% from 2.6200 to 0.8600. Frequency of Tripping (FOT) is a key performance indicator which measures the number of times the high-voltage transmission lines tripped or experienced forced outages for every 100 circuit kilometers (ckm).

Several system upgrades and facility expansions were implemented to improve System Availability (SA) ratings, which are recorded at 99.5702% for Luzon grid, 99.8013% for Visayas grid, and 99.7320% for Mindanao grid, respectively, in 2016. Luzon grid’s rating this year is higher compared to the 2015 figure of 99.4125%. The other grids maintained the same ratings posted last year. SA ratings, as a performance indicator, measures the percentage of the entire transmission system available or operating normally during a given period.

The Congestion Availability Indicator (ConA), which measures the congestion experienced by lines identified as critical and whose loss would severely impact Wholesale Electricity Spot Market (WESM) operations, reached a positive rating of 99.7209% this year from 99.5830% in 2015.

age and frequency limits. These limits are measured by the percentage of time during a given period that the system frequency or voltage is within the allowable limits. The Luzon grid, particularly, reported 100% Frequency Limit Compliance (FLC) or no frequency violations for the 2015-2016 evaluation period. Visayas grid improved its FLC from 99.8603% last year to 99.8869% this year. Mindanao grid remains stable, with FLC posted at 99.9934% in 2015 and 99.9739% this year.

Meanwhile, the Voltage Limit Compliance (VLC) of all 3 grids retained its 99% rating in 2015, with the Luzon grid at 99.94%, the Visayas grid at 99.96%, and the Mindanao grid at 99.99% for 2016.

For frequency, the allowable range is 60 ± 0.3 Hertz (Hz) or 59.7 Hz to 60.3 Hz. Voltage variances are mandated not to exceed ± 5% of the nominal voltage (500kV, 230kV, or 138Kv) per facility particularly during the peak load hours. This means that at peak load hours, a 500kV line should maintain a voltage of 475kV to 525kV, and so on. For Luzon, the highest peak is registered at 2pm. In the Visayas and Mindanao grids, the highest peak registered is at 7pm.
