A PROGRESSIVE lawmaker yesterday has refiled House Bill 3599 to designate March 6 as Bud Dajo Day to commemorate the massacre of Moro civilians by American soldiers during its brutal “pacification” campaign in 1906. In an e-mail, Zarate said that on March 5 to 8, 1906, a thousand Moro men, women, and children were massacred inside the 50-foot crater of Bud Dahu, a dormant volcano six kilometers off Jolo, the capital town of Sulu province in Mindanao. Ex-mayor faces raps for failure to file SALN
THE Office of the Ombudsman has ordered the filing of charges against a former mayor Lupon in Davao Oriental over his alleged failure to file his Statement of Assets, Liabilities and Net Worth (SALN) from 2007 to 2009. Mayor Arfran Quiñones is facing indictment for 3 counts of violation of Section 8(a) of Republic Act No. 6713 (Code of Conduct and Ethical Standards for Public Officers and Employees) for his alleged failure to file his SALN. In a news posted on its website, the Ombudsman said Quiñones allegedly failed to submit his SALN for the period in question during his tenure as an exofficio member of the Sangguniang Bayan of Lupon. It said the former mayor also failed to controvert the findings that his SALNs were not recorded at the Human Resource Management Office (HRMO) of the local government unit.
